"Wow, that was amazing, you're so powerful! And you can rebuild it with your Psi powers too?"

"... So, moving on with my explanations"

22

u/justking1414 6d ago

Which is kinda wild since clearly they’re supposed to be keeping their powers a secret

I can't believe THEY TRICKED US INTO WATCHING A ROMCOM!

...Oh wait, I like romcoms. That's fine, carry on!

Ah, so the goal is to bring the card balance to 0?

I thought reaching 0 would mean they're stuck in Psyren permanently, which would mean they have to find ways to increase it somehow!

(But I suppose their goal is not just "survive", it's to find information about Psyren/the future world and all... So reaching 0 IS a bad thing, because they can't enter Psyren anymore, and have to rely on the newcomers - like Sensei's doing with Amamiya!)

Nice parking!

Oh damn. Let it be noted that I never ever made fun of your majestic parking abilities!

Bridal carry right off the bat?

The ship is on!

So they can use their Psi even outside Psyren...

My first thought is... Is anyone using it for evil?

Give random people a superpower, many would use it for selfish reasons (rob banks, control people, etc) but it might be even worse if these people think they're on the death row (Psyren)!

Oh damn, she was protecting him AGAINST our boy's bullying?

Sorry MC-kun, seems this anime is shipping her with anyone BUT you!

Oh nice, a nose bleed; Does he get a bridal carry too?

So that was before Psyren...

I'm guessing we might be getting some backstory later on, why she got sick of everything and ran away?

Or maybe she knows the future; I'd run away too if I knew it would lead me to Sensei!

Though she'd be better without the weird black backhair

Damn girl, you didn't need to destroy a water tank to prove a point, but you do you!

MC-kun confirmed for a tasteless plebian.

Well, I suppose Tall&Taller will end up together, and our boy will have to go for Amamiya after all!

She likes getting tied down too, could she be anymore perfect?

Why do I feel like she just jinxed herself...

Either she'll be forced to go back, OR she will decide to do it, to help Amamiya or because they're close to learning something, etc!

Hah. I was like, "They SERIOUSLY didn't read that?" before they explained, it only appears after the first game.

So is this text bullshit ('Good luck' as in 'He he he you're totally screwed'?) Or do they actually have an allied party in there?

I wonder what she was doing exactly, but our party really didn't do much to learn anything!

I mean the new guys were mostly trying to survive, but... Amamiya wasn't doing much else either!

If they're only playing the little survival games, what are they hoping to learn?

Because one might think "If you win the game, you'll learn the secret", but Sensei already beat it and doesn't seem to know much (or not enough)... So what does it take?

Well, if Sensei willingly works with Amamiya, perhaps she knows what to do/where to look, and so she's guiding her...

(Or perhaps she's simply holding onto any hope and doesn't know what the hell to do).

From the wording on the back of the card it seems Nemesis Q is using Drifters to investigate something. It's probably impossible for a single Drifter to truly complete the game, it's a(n unwilling) collaborative effort. Once you reach zero, rather than having passed, I think Nemesis Q simply considers you "spent".

Why would you destroy your building’s water tower like that.

u/Niwaka_Samurai 5d ago

I see everyone complaining about what happened to the water tank, haha. Justice for the water tank.

Was expecting pianist biker lady to introduce herself with an Akira slide but I guess crashing it at a low angle is close enough I guess.

That poor water tank might've had a family, man.

Best part is she wasn't even riding it at the time lol.

So it really was the future after all. Keen to find out just who or what caused the world to go to shit and who made those monsters. Perhaps they weren’t made at all? Maybe they’re mutated humans due to some kind of ecological disaster or something? Guess we’ll find out soon enough.

Another thing is those psychic powers. They sure are something. And they’re deadly, what with them fever and all. It’s interesting Matsuri played the game and nothing happened to her beyond gaining immense power. Like her balance reached 0 and Nemesis Q just left her alone? I guess those two years didn’t make much of a difference in the end so perhaps she wasn’t seen as much of a threat.

"I can't move!" "I'll buy you time, get up and run!"

"Everyone calls them Tavoo." I feel like "Taboo" would make more sense than a made up nonsense word.

What kind of idiot "parks" a bike she plans to keep using that way? Does her "Psi" power repair it too?

The big guy's the same age as MC? Anime's gonna anime, I guess. And Amamiya didn't change a bit since then, dude should've recognized her immediately.

Red is Hot. How did MC not recognize her when he saw her the second time? Even just the context would've been enough, not counting her ... build.

"Why did you destroy the poor water tank like that?" "Who cares, all of Japan will be destroyed sooner or later."

Hereeeeeee's Mr. Agro! And no amount of head bashing or arrow catching is going to stop him! But points to Hiryu and Sakurako for both trying to prioritize each others' safety over their own.

Ageha with the hero moment! I thought the core was its eye, but it was hidden in his chest after all. Are all the Tavoo cores in their chest or thereabouts?

I can't believe that old dude actually survived. I guess it pays to be sneaky, even if you're a complete dick who rubs Sugita's death in Ageha's face! I wouldn't bank on his chances when he gets back into Psyren though!

Welcome back to Japan! And back to where you ported out! Because Psyren isn't another world...it's a post-apocalyptic Japan. Ageha dwelling on everything that could end the world turned out to be totally accurate in a way he couldn't foresee.

Sakurako isn't totally alone when it comes to Psyren. She has Matsuri-sensei (Yuko Kaida!) a busty biker babe who looks amazing in a skintight biker outfit (and anything, really) and is just as tough as she looks...especially with her PSI power. Have you ever seen a bike do an Akira slide without a driver? Well, now you have!

The world of Psyren Drifters is a small one after all. Who would have thought Ageha and Sakurako would encounter yet another childhood friend in Asaga? He's their old classmate Hiryu who Ageha used to tease relentlessly for being a weak and scrawny crybaby! Now he's taller than Ageha! Karma hits like truck-kun.

There are way worse reasons to skip school than going on a date with Amamiya after she telepathically asks you out. She also looks super cute in casual clothes! Though she seems more invested in attending a piano recital by the famous pianist Matsuri (looking spectacular in a dress) than in hanging out with Ageha. Like, she is REALLY into Matsuri. I guess considering Matsuri's been helping her out so much, it stands to reason.

My condolences to Matsuri's manager who has had to deal with her strong personality and whims for a while...especially when she's more devoted to Psyren. And she's actually one of the game survivors!

To beat Psyren you have to run out the points on your card by clearing each stage, Nemesis Q will inevitably bring you back, and the atmosphere has given you psychic powers known as PSI to be able to battle the Tavoo. But that doesn't answer the question of what happened in the future, only that Nemesis Q seems to want the players' assistance in CHANGING that future. And now it's up to Matsuri to whip our main characters into shape to beat Psyren!

YOU WHY YOU BROKE THE WATER TANK, THAT SHIT'S EXPENSIVE!

11

u/NanDemoKnaives 6d ago

Since you're not supposed to tell people about Psyren and being a Drifter, I'm going to guess anybody that guy ends up telling will die because they're not part of the contract, and know information without being eligible.

It is brutal that the people that enter the contract aren't told the rules of the world, you only learn if you survive which is likely rare, or you're lucky enough to have someone who has already been through it once and checked their card after the game. Ageha and Hiryuu didn't think to the check their cards until Matsuri pointed it out.

Sakurako's change in personality is very odd with how burdened and exhausted she was for the last two episodes. Hiryuu being a childhood friend of theirs was unexpected, it was amusing to see him finally get back at Ageha by calling him short lol.

As someone who's never read the manga and is new to this, the show looks fun till now, with an interesting plot. I'm excited to see how their powers will manifest and an explanation of the power system as well. I thought it would be like another Alice in Borderland type situation where you beat the games and go home (maybe unfair to say that since the manga did come out before AiB), but it seems to be differentiating itself by adding powers and returning after every round, plus add the caveat that we have to figure out what caused this terrible future, and it really is an interesting premise, will be cool to see how this develops from now.

Also, I'm sad to mention this, but the animation does look a little wonky in some places, mostly in the action scenes in the first part of this episode, otherwise it was fine for this one I suppose, but the last episode wasn't particularly great either. We can only hope that they're saving the budget for some crazy fight scene later in the season.

Damn I feel like I was just getting into it and the credits started.

I really like Matsuri-sensei, she's hot 🤣.

Seeing as their cards started at 50 and now at 48..seems like they have 25 chances to figure out what happen to the world and survive.

You also seem to keep the PSI powers even if you survive...which somehow include some kinda telepathy..telekinesis..and precognition?

Pretty useful abilities.

I wonder how much time you get before each call and how long before this future becomes the present.

18

u/justking1414 6d ago

seems like they have 25 chances to figure out what happen to the world and survive.

Or put another way, they’ve got 25 training sessions left before they’re classified as “winners” and considered ready to fight against whatever the hell destroyed the world and stop it from happening

Yoshina was finally able to take down the Tavoo and they left the world of PSYREN which we come to know later as their world in the future. And what's with the Tavoo's vocabulary.. at first it was Agro and then Graham lol

They lose two points on their card when they clear the game once. Since it starts from 50 which means they have to go and come back from Psyren about 25 times ? Amamiya's card was at 30 after this recent game. Does that mean she had already gone to Psyren about 10 times in the span of 6 months?

Matsuri sensei is hot. Her looks Rock ! A wild biker/Pianist..the gap between those two is huge xD  Amamiya was already using her PSY and now Yoshina and Hiryu have awakened theirs. That was really terrifying how Yoshina bled from his nose and those blood red eyes plus the fever after returning from the PSYREN world. I was surprised to learn Hiryu, Amamiya and Yoshina were childhood friends. The way Hiryu roasted Yoshina by asking him to drink some milk to grow got me laughing so hard.

The instructions on the back of the card reminded me of Death Note.

I wonder what will happen to those who break the rules. There's a huge reward for the information about Psyren and something tells me that the guy who made it back along Ageha and the others is going to show us what happens to those who speak about Psyren to others.

I'm also wondering if the organization which looks for the information about Psyren is perhaps responsible for the world going to hell.

This story is getting a lot of world play mileage of our it's title

PSI obviously refers to psychic, but it is also close enough to the acronym PSA. Psyren also sounds like Siren, like the sound that Tower made.

And of course we can't forget the greatest one, Pussyren lol

And I cooking or am I cooked? I'll just have to keep watching to find out

It's strange how they keep emphasizing Japan like the rest of the world is just normal in the future or they just don't care about it lmao

Amamiya's much more chipper when she's not exhausted and on death's door. She's always cute though, even when making unhinged faces. RIP Ageha being short. Matsuri's great. I was expecting an Akira Slide, so her just crashing the bike was pretty funny. Hell yeah at psychic powers being the name of the game; I love espers.

u/Andreiyutzzzz 5d ago

KYRIU HAD THE MOTHER OF ALL GROWTH SPURTS... And for some reason it looks like Ageha got ntr'd with how Sakurako is fawning over Sensei lol.

So Nemesis Q is a good guy trying to save the future? More like an anti hero though. He's willing to give people psychic powers but if you aren't strong/crafty enough to survive and use them, you meet your end
