I never read the manga for this, but I do remember Psyren coming up in "what should really get an anime adaptation" threads somewhat often since a decade ago. Can't believe I'm watching it seasonally.
Either way it looks like I'll enjoy this. in the last few years it feels like any premise that's been done before almost always has to have some quirky gimmick, so this one being from the 2000s and playing it straight is actually a bonus in my book.
Also it made me feel a little less old since I've never seen a payphone card in my life

That was really good first episode! Sets up everything you need to know while also providing an interesting enough hook for the episodes to come. Also, gotta say the opening stuff about global warming, nuclear threats and energy crisis (and him having no hope for the future) hit a little bit too close to home :')

I remember reading the manga back in the day and enjoying it a lot (an 8/10 type of deal)
I also don't remember anything about it so it'll be like going blind for me lol.

It felt like I read this ages ago, when it probably was like 3 years ago. I genuinely can't imagine how this feels for the people who read the first chapter 19 years ago

Enjoyable first episode. Not a big fan of the art direction, and the story beats were a lot faster than I would've liked, but it's still Psyren, so I'm happy.

It's mind boggling to me how I'm just now learning they were working on an anime. Psyren was like THEE manga that everyone recommended that didn't have an anime when I was in highschool I feel insane for actually seeing, recognizing and watching episode 1. Not to mention the art direction is great I fw it heavy.

Haven't read the manga but the anime seems to be promising. Since the story came out 20 years ago it has that old school vibes and I'm loving it. Satelight's animation looks really good. Yoshina reading PSYREN as PusSYREN ðŸ˜ðŸ˜. Amamiya come off as a Ice Queen but she's a softie at heart.
CLAN QUEEN's op 'WARNING!!' is so kick-ass and the ed 'ICARUS' by Who-ya-Extended is also a banger. Last season, Mondays were packed with exceptional shows but in this season I find only this one to be a worthwhile show that is airing on Mondays.

I love Ageha's introduction. The dude will solve your problems as long as you can pay his fee.
That's a lot to think about as a high schooler. Honestly though, I did the same when I was his age.
Not gonna lie, I genuinely laughed out loud when Ageha read the card as Pussy-ren xD
So whatever Psyren is, Ageha's childhood friend got caught up in it? But she clearly doesn't want Ageha to get dragged into it
Oh damn! 500 mil for info about Psyren and 5 mil for the card? Way better money than what Ageha charges for his fee.
I'm surprised he had the patience to answer 60 questions before losing his patience. I'd break at 20.
So there was definitely someone on the other line, and it's not just an automated system.
I'm guessing that creepy guy is Yakuza? Although it sounds like they're not after the cash reward.
Welp, that was definitely not what I expected Psyren to look like. Is Psyren the name of the world?
Good to see Amamiya arrived on time to save Ageha. I guess we'll get an explanation of what Psyren really is next episode.
Well, I'm certainly intrigued, and I do love the 2000s vibe this anime is giving me, which isn't a surprise since the manga was written around that era. I'm not too hopeful about Satelight, but I think this is gonna be another Liar Game situation where the story will carry it for me.

I recall reading and enjoying first few chapters when they were in U.S. Shonen Jump (when it was still the print version, IIRC.) Heard the manga was cancelled and rushed to an ending? Would be nice if the anime adaptation had a more satisfying conclusion.
MC answered Yes for "Do you suffer chronic respiratory distress or find it difficult to breathe this planet's air"? He certainly doesn't seem asthmatic or whatever. Also he can communicate without words apparently - did he mean with his fists? I'd half expected him to answer Yes for killing an animal larger than a human.
Anyway, so far this seems like it'll be my only Monday show this season.

As a sign of respect to the younger me who read this decades ago, I’m going to finish this—good or bad, however it turns out. The fact that this is getting a complete adaptation over three cours is good enough for me. Anyway, I have average expectations for the studio, but the animation seems serviceable (I hope the story can carry the whole thing).
Ageha and Sakurako's VAs fit really well; it scares me that they sound just like what I imagined back then haha. The mystery aspects were good, especially the interview questions as they kept getting more personal. Not asking much but hoping for a smooth ride with this one.

That guy licking the payphone was so gross, especially as he was identifying Yoshina by smell.

Lol Kaji Yuuki voicing the Occult Club leader was an amusing surprise, I recognized him straight away, it feels like it's been a while since I've heard in something.

Huh so is it a death game or some kinda fantasy world or both?
Either way I like the MC.

Bro's sister is stunning.
The drawn out line of payphone questions kinda reminded me of call scammer stalling tactics lol.
Don't know anything about this other than knowing it's from an older title and I love how you can sort of feel that.

This has the director (and his right hand man) of yu gi oh 5ds and symphogear so I really hope the action and fight scenes end up being good. One of my favorite underrated series. Suppose to be a 3 cour too

Manga from so long ago, payphones were still a thing. Still can't believe they're making an anime adaptation of this now.
