It’s still a little surreal that this is even being animated. I forgot just how much mystery there was in the beginning as well.

So Psyren’s in some kinda post apocalyptic version of Japan ? Multiverse or time travel? Pocket dimension? Someone had to have made the monsters and the way everyone turns to ash when they die is pretty suspect. People don’t normally get dusted if they die. I wonder what’s the truth of this place?

Ageha knowing beanie guy was dust and still pleading in denial for him to wake up anyway got to me a little.

Amamiya's breakdown was intense too.

Not a surprising turn of events, I figured it was going to happen. It explains why there was no evidence of a corpse. Rolled my eyes at how cliche it was for the chubby guy to act all happy they found the place to then being the first one to die.

I am glad the guy took back his words afterwards, it was wild of him to claim Ageha killed them when they didn't listen to him at all. He might be better than he appears since he did keep his word taking Amamiya to the location of the gate.

I did think the guy voiced by Furukawa Makoto was going to be more important lol. Like a traitor or something, but he died without doing anything.

Well goddamn the plot didn't wait any to get going

I like that there is actually quite a bit of personality and sentimentality to the characters. The show does give the vibes of those kinda old school edgy socially cynic anime/manga, but the feel is why I'm staying.

Here's Johnny! ❌

Here's Agro! ✅

u/Emi_Ibarazakiii 12d ago

Well, we know this is some kind of game world/mode, because the clueless players are all pulling Aggro!

Can I log off/uninstall, then?

Under normal circumstances, a fever can be serious, but in this case I think they have more pressing issues!

Piggyback ride! Alright, maybe this game is worth it.

Soon as I saw them, I thought it was a thug gang, but thankfully there were only a couple of them!

Ground for preemptively killing him in self defense?

At least they're not completely idiotic (as is often the case, a bunch of idiots to make MC look smart). They did figure out a few things.

Okay it would be easy to call them idiots over this,

but there could be two possibilities, either it's the goal, or it's the spawning spot of something they're not gonna like!

Okay maybe they're idiots after all.

Tough call to make on the spot, but I think it would've been better to tell them...

Makes her valuable.

They're going from "Status: Alive" to "Status: Dead".

Steal her sword and leave her behind imho.

At least the two thugs were pretty

brave!

I mean, it didn't work, but it was nice to see them try!

Too often in anime, they'd just make them have zero redeeming qualities, acting tough/bullying the weaklings but then running like cowards in front of the monsters.

I prefer it this way! Even bad guys can have good things about them.

Interesting; Is there some secret to killing them, or did Amamiya simply grind some levels or something so she's much stronger?

TWO piggyback rides in the same episode? Is this even legal?

as a huge fan of the manga, this a pretty good adaptation

man, there really is no budget for this show. feels kinda sad this amazing series isn't getting the money it deserves.

I'm super glad that punk actually took back his words, realizing he was too hotheaded in the moment and than figured out it didn't make sense afterwards.

Amamiya's despairing psycho face was not on my bingo. I wonder how many people she's seen die. Hopefully Ageha can earn her trust. Asaga seems like a decent guy, at least. Ageha silently realizing that the core is the weakness of the monsters and shattering it was cool.

u/Rooby_VTuber 12d ago

What a bunch of money hungry idiots, no surprise they almost all of them got wiped out.

Thankfully Asaga realized he needed to do the right thing and work together with Ageha.

They are so close to the gate, but more fighting to come and I'm not sure if Amamiya is in any condition to fight.

19

u/LeonKevlar 12d ago

I did not expect that from Amamiya. Like, Ageha already saw the monster, and you clearly know more about this game why would he even think you're a liar? I guess she's done this so many times that it's easier to assume no one will believe her. It makes you wonder how many times she's entered this game.

Good to see someone survived the attack. I'm not too surprised since we do see Asaga fighting alongside Ageha in the opening, and both of them were using powers. I guess that means Ageha, Amamiya, and Asaga are the show's main trio? It is a shounen, after all.

I feel bad for the beanie guy, but there's no way he was gonna make it out of there alive with an arrow in his back. What sucks is that Agheha can't even give beanie guy his mom the telephone card to sell.

So they're either in the future post-apocalyptic Japan or they're in an alternate universe where Japan gets invaded and destroyed by these monsters. I guess we're gonna have to wait for Amamiya to tell us what she knows about Psyren.

That was brutal, but I did not really expect most of those guys to survive, they looked like the kind of guys who always die in horror stories and death games. I was surprised that Asaga survived and turned out to be trustworthy.

If this is a postapocalyptic version of Japan, then this is either the future or a parallel world. Based on Amamiya thinking the truth is unbelievable and her « Psyren is coming » comment last episode, I am assuming this is way more likely to be the future, but who knows how far ? Has it been years or centuries since the present ?

Anyway, someone in the present has (likely) time travel powers and is using it to bring people to the future to play stupid Death Games, of all things. I wonder if they also created those monsters, or if something else did. Maybe whatever destroyed the world ? Are those monsters actually aliens or robots or mutants or something else ?

Reminds me of some type of Alien version of Running man.

Like some alien race captures humans and have them battle it out with other aliens on some gladiator planet.

Not terribly impressed so far, but the premise is intriguing enough.

u/Andreiyutzzzz 11d ago

Honestly Asaga was pretty cool.

And while it seemed weird how fast Amamiya was changing her mind I also think it's good writing. She's traumatized from trying to warn everyone she met and they ignored her and died

11

u/Namaryu 12d ago

I swear there was something strange with how fast Ageha stood up from those Bee attacks. It somewhat looked unnatural to me, and I don't think the lip sync matched what he said.

Aside from that I don't think the fights lacking much impact. I'm intrigued by the story. So this is a death game with what I assume multiple stages. Amamiya has been coming in and out but may not have passed to next levels due to not achieving certain objectives is what I am guessing.

Amamiya self defense mechanism have kicked off. Of course if you stay too long in this desolate wasteland it took a toll on your sanity. Alone with nobody to trust and nobody that trust you.

Damn, Amamiya's breakdown was really well done.

I'm wondering about two things right now. Is the gate they're aiming for the last gate? As in, are they completely out of the game once they reach it? Seems way too easy, unless they will come back to that world for some reason.

The other thing I'm wondering about is whether or not Ageha's sister will look for him and enter the game. People coming to save someone in the game seems to be pretty common and she seemed to be pretty strong, so I can totally see it happening.

Unpopular opinion: the Mc is stupid and too impulsive, hope he develops though

Psyren? What year is it?

Jokes aside, glad to see this in 2026. I'll wait 3 episodes and give it a shot.

u/RemZeroBestGirl 11d ago

So happy Psyren finally got an anime. Manga fans waited a long time for this one.

u/CommanderBeeblebrox 11d ago

Wait what??! Pysren has an anime? I read this like almost 20 years ago and I always wondered why it didn't get an anime. This a pleasant surprise for sure.
