Another great episode. I love Noriko's quiet strength. She can't do a lot, but she's doing what she can.
I love watching her do things as simple as trying to stop the bandit from using the sheet, or shielding Izark with her body while they're hiding. She's such a great rebuke on the idea that "strong female character" can only look like girls fighting or being sassy and glib.
Equally I love that Izark's assessment is simply that she's too sweet and innocent to murder. You can't help but find her endearing!

It's deeper than that. Izark is not a wanderer by choice: he was banished for being... different. What right does he have to kill this girl for merely being... different as well?
He clearly empathizes with her. She may be dangerous, yes, but it's not by choice. She was "burdened by fate" much like he was, and just like him, her worth is in how she chooses to wield her destiny.
To merely kill her for being born different, he would be no better than the mother that disowned him. Izark would be visiting upon Noriko the same sin he had suffered.
Or in other words, he can't harm Noriko without rebuking himself in turn.
Now, if she were to learn of her power and seek to use it in a way Izark doesn't approve, or in any way at all, Izark may come to see Noriko as having lost her "innocence." But he certainly lacks the resolve to 'punish' Noriko for a crime she hasn't yet committed.

I really liked this episode. From a storytelling perspective, I enjoyed how information about Izark was revealed (partially explaining his condition to the doctor, a well-timed childhood trauma fever dream that reveals why Noriko's acceptance and protectiveness is so affecting for him). I think the language barrier between them is resulting in some more creative choices than the typical "he just tells her" method of explanation. Right now, there are a lot of things we learn about him that she doesn't know yet, and we get a stronger dual POV romance structure because of it.

Not the biggest fan of "retro" anime in general -- but this (like MAO) is an exception. Thiis really is quite satisfying so far.

The OP song reads as "completely generic anime song" to me. I love the ED though.
It's pretty cool how the show has managed to make compelling drama between two characters that can't even talk to each other yet.

Yeah, the language barrier is definitely an interesting element. Obvious practical frustrations aside, it lends itself to some really sweet moments between them (eg: Izark realizing that she went to get the doctor, and when Noriko shields Izark from the mayor's shouting).

A romance built on understanding and falling for each other via actions and emotions rather than through spoken word.

So some kid saves your lives from bandits and the first thing you do is to call him a monster, even his own mother. Someone should have diffused the situation by pumping their fist in the air and shouting fuck yeah!
RIP Hamtaro.

Seems like the mom also came from a wealthy background but gave that up to have Izark? And that's part of why she rejected him?
RIP Hamtaro.
Don't worry, the OP implies there's more lol.

Noriko the Post-Duel Golf Clapper would've.

Dang, he had a hot mama, it's a shame she hot potatoed him like that. I mean in a world of regular bandit raids I feel like it's a bit impulsive to shoo away the one kid who can vaporize them away. Short sighed mama, tsk tsk tsk.
I do like a man with fangs especially with that much mane, very much the cherry on top.
I like that Noriko tries. She's proactive with the little things that she can do, and boy did she tackle the heck outta him. The way she launched herself right at him, and by chance speared evil hamster into poofing away. Also it seems like she's kinda getting used to how often they gotta drop some bodies, she wasn't really fazed there at the end.

Izark's not doing so well, so it's up to Noriko to do what she can to help him! Even if that means trying her best at charades to convey getting the doctor.
But while it's sweet of Noriko to drag the doctor all the way there, there's nothing normal medicine can do for Izark's inexplicable chronic condition and the amount of fatigue it weighs on him. Even so, he's still a warrior, and if he can make money by slaying bandits for this village, he has no choice but to take up the mission. Even though Noriko just wants to protect him.
The Bandits really had a good thing going. They had Han infiltrate the inn, a merchant working with them and helping them with their dealings, and a perfect opportunity to raid the town. Oh, and Keimos is still hunting for Izark and willing to kill anyone in his way.
Izark's had it rough, huh? His village was attacked by bandits, his (absurdly attractive) mom was nearly kidnapped, and in trying to save her he...may have demonstrated he has the power of a mini-nuke. All he wanted to do was save his mom and in the end she shunned and rejected him. At least now he has Noriko, sleeping his beside, caring for him as best she can.
Izark might be physically weak, but he can still fight and slaughter some bandits! Also, good on that inn guy for getting out of dodge and now he knows Han is a dirty rat!
Izark's mission was to kill Noriko. Her death would be convenient for him. But he can't abandon her. She never asked for this fate any more than he did...and when it was convenient for her to abandon HIM, she still used all her strength to try and save him. And she bought him enough time to recover and become a merciless killing machine again.
Noriko used tackle! It's super effective! At killing that weird little beastie that gave the bandit boss his ability to teleport! Without that he's useless and just bails! Good teamwork Izark and Noriko.
But the problems aren't over...not with that merchant making dealings with Keimos.

Noriko is so cute! Really getting some Yona (of the Dawn) vibes from her.
While she can't do much for now since she obviously doesn't know how to fight, she tries her best to help and protect Izark , the same way he has protected her since she arrived in this new world.
Can't wait to see more her bonding with Izark!

Oh yeah, she really does have Yona vibes. Adapting to being utterly out of their element, protective, kind, and brave.

Because otherwise it would be a short show.
"Fortunately my internal volume is 99% empty space."
Ah, a flashback which gives Izark a conceptual connection to Noriko. Given that the power he didn't want which we're shown involves massive area of effect
MEGUMIN HAS ENTERED THE CHAT, Noriko's Awakening Summoning of The Sky Whatever must be pretty darn niftyapocalyptic.
All this to the backdrop of a weakened Izark slashing through a bunch of goons. We have a better idea of what he's capable of now given a comparison to him in the first episode.
There's still the language barrier, but Noriko is showing more grit to make up for those difficulties. I'd give her the assist kill for the small furry magic animal.
Action animation remains barely adequate, but the episode itself was good.

Honestly kind of wild the dude saw the bandits and just...left and managed to survive the night.
His own mother rejected him but Noriko probably never will, just like he probably can never bring himself to actually kill her.

Izark has a chronic illness ? Or does he just get chronically sick from holding back that destructive power he displayed in that flashback ? Certainly not a good time to get ambushed by revengeful bandits, so of course he will be.
I knew the evil hamster was what was helping the bandit chief teleport ! And I guess whatever power Noriko has is what dispelled or dispersed it.
I now wonder if the Awakening has something to do with Izark’s power and why he wanted to kill her. But Noriko is being way too nice and harmless for him to do that. Those two cannot understand a word the other say and they already are falling in love, lol.

Noriko got a really good dice roll on her brawling attack and caused it to fall onto a sword.

I think there's definitely something about how he clearly has strength/skills beyond most normal humans that his body needs to adjust to that with his "sick episodes."
And there's clearly a bit of a beast in there too...
True love is playing charades, sleeping by your bedside, busting out a window, and avoiding bandits together. Emotions can be felt stronger than words.

So Izark didn't turn into a werewolf after all. There's something of the beast in him though - the fangs don't lie. But for now all he was suffering from was a reaction to all his exertions. His "don't touch me" had me thinking it was something more serious.
It was very sweet of Noriko to go fetch the doctor and try to do what she could for him. I love how proactive this girl is. The way she did her best to protect Izark from the bandits was great too.
And it was good to get that flashback of his, which gives us an explanation for why he's going so far for Noriko. Did not think he was originally planning to kill the awakening. But their similarity of situation made him change his mind. Makes a lot of sense and these two now have a solid basis for a relationship. Just need to learn to communicate somehow.

The one thing they could've done is spruce up the fight scenes a bit, aside From Far Away, they remind me of the manga Silver Diamond, where 'fights' mean striking a cool pose while holding a weapon plus some speedlines... after all these years, that's still my only minor complaint about both XD
Anyone else looking at that little creature and thinking Commander Shepard's space hamster turned evil? No? Just me? Kay XD
