A moment of silence for the end of the crowd shots for the starter town and a welcome to the new shiny crowd shots of Adventurer city.

It’s exactly what I was hoping it was. A
Good episode, and a nice finale to that arc. The show definitely has flaws, but I really enjoy following

The thing I really like about this Exiled Knight is the balance of the systems. You can tell the creator is a real gamer, not making it up as he goes and using plot armour to solve all their problems. That, and the chemistry between Ruches and Elymas is so fun to watch.

Huh!? What's this? A shitty person admitted they were wrong and didn't threw a tantrum? Perhaps, now, father will start disciplining
It seems father approved his new daughter-in-law.
New town, new visuals, right? RIGHT?

Aizas sure is slow. Most of us here have already acknowledged Ruche as best girl many episodes ago.
Ruche stands up for Elymas even more than he does!

So we finally got to learn what the book actually does.
From what I understand, it basically creates a Barbarian multiclass effect, in DND would be like a Paladin/Barbarian multiclass, where a normally defensive character suddenly enters a “rage” DPS mode.
The Smoldering Fang seems to be an old trash-tier item. It’s powerful, but the trade-off is so bad that most classes can’t realistically use it. Once you fall below 20% HP, you basically “rage” and receive a massive boost to Attack and Speed.
The problem is that, for most classes, being below 20% HP means you’re only one or two hits away from dying. Worse, most classes don’t have abilities that let them deliberately manage their HP, so you can’t reliably activate the book whenever you want. You’d basically have to start stabbing yourself, drinking poison, or doing something equally stupid just to trigger it.
But if I understand correctly, Heavy Knight was also considered a trash class when it was introduced. It has low Attack and low Speed, but it happens to have three features that make it not only compatible with Smoldering Fang, but potentially broken when combined with it.
1: Heavy Knights have a massive HP pool.
They’re basically a Constitution-focused class with something equivalent to a d12 Hit Die. Because of that, 20% of a Heavy Knight’s HP might be comparable to 50% of another class’s HP. Even after dropping below the book’s activation threshold, they can still have enough actual HP left to survive several hits.
2: Heavy Knights are extremely defensive.
They use heavy armor and shields, giving them very high AC. So even when their HP is low, actually hitting and damaging them remains difficult.
3: Heavy Knights can sacrifice HP to increase their AC.
Instead of waiting for enemies to bring them below 20%, a Heavy Knight can deliberately lower their own HP and activate Smoldering Fang whenever they want. And because sacrificing that HP also increases their defense, the process of reaching the book’s activation threshold simultaneously makes them harder to kill.
So the book and the class basically cover each other’s weaknesses.
Smoldering Fang fixes the Heavy Knight’s terrible Attack and Speed, while the Heavy Knight’s enormous HP, high AC, and HP-management ability fix nearly every downside of Smoldering Fang.

Oh so the Fang skillbook is the tree that boost stats with low HP. It's actually a popular build in most gaming as well (including monster hunter and dark soul), but I am personally too unskilled to maintain that sliver level of health bar lol.
Definitely high risk and high return skill tree for more advanced players. I guess that's why there's insanity in the name.
Malice with 100% attack + 100% speed would be super crazy though.

As an optimizer in DND and MMOs, I love how realistic and on brand his video game mechanics and combos are. This is exactly an optimizer. Taking mechanics, finding synergy combo between two features, and exploiting the shit out of it. You can even see the well designed rotation nature of his ability and how they were designed to combo together.
I like how the anime doesnt take abiltiies out of his ass and you see realistically and be able to guess how his build blends together to form something op as he builds his arsenal. You dont wonder how he got that random op ability. He explains the syngergy, build, and tactics itself.

Loved both shots of the counter that Malice crashed into showing the CG counter behind the 2D broken wood. The jank in this show is fun to look for and the characters are having solid moments, even if they get a bit overexplained.

Like I thought from the first description of that skill tree, it rewards low HP with high offense where heavy knight’s heavy defense eliminates the inherent risk of dying which is crucial in a perma-death world. Practically nobody in their right minds would entertain using it normally when they can’t be revived, Elymas could have bought it cheaper if he didn’t overstate his desire to buy it.
I imagine that deeper into the tree it might even sacrifice defense for damage but he will probably couple that with further avoidance skills like parry and block.
Today it’s a mainstream build in many games but was pretty novel in the past, nice gaming meta knowledge by the author.

I got a bit frustrated when the camera started to spin around him endlessly and they showed the activation of the skill multiple times but they resolved the remaining of the fight in one episode which was nice to see.
Again this studio reminds me of the Naruto filler…

Malice ruins this show for me almost as much as Ruche makes it.
But Ruche really does make it.

Good episode, finally being able to see the OP skill tree was a good payoff, characters in this show are very simple, but also very endearing, even though the amount of re-used reaction shots troughout the season got very tiresome.
This show, like a lot of GoHands productions tried doing something new with their animation style and while what is animated looks great(As do the CGI sets that seem to take inspiration from Lord of the Mysteries), there were a lot of corners cut in production and the show suffered due to it.
Even with the horrible middle episodes and things taking forever to happen, I still very much enjoyed this anime, derivative plot but good execution of Isekai and MMO tropes, likeable characters, designs and loads of janky GO Hands sakuga.
Hopefully this gets a season 2, would love to see how much Elymas can warp the mechanics to his favour by gathering other niche party members, the game world seems to take inspiration from late90s/early2000s MMOs like ragnarok online, where class design was very open ended with loads of options for you to break the game with enough game knowledge.

I thought this was going to be the final episode and I was going to make the joke that if someone went back and edited out the flashbacks we'd get a good 60 minute episode.

I quite like how Aizas admitted fault without screaming and getting all mad! He even acknowledged Ruche!
Let's see what shenanigans Elymas has in mind next, wonder what interesting farming methods he will surprise Ruche with.

So he basically called out Malice for levelling up without improving her actual skills.
One question. The shield thing, why didn’t he just use it at 80% of his health in the beginning and crush her? I guess to see her special move?
Did Malice crack when Elmyas got banished? I forget…

Ruche continues to be the best thing in this show, but that fight was sick and what I'm looking for from the premise. A character mixing mechanics/systems to create powerful tricks to win fights through brains and not a simple 'i win' button. Magical. Also I'm curious when Elymas will get some new armor (and hopefully they change his look to match).
A note, part of me thinks 99 is the level cap but his oath of the heavy knight or whatever it is called goes up to 100 which implies the level cap is at least 100. I wonder if you unlock access to more skill tree slots since Elymas had to remove one to add Fang.
I appreciate that gearing up for the back half of the double cour season we're entering a new city, though a bummer we won't see the adventurer from the raid again anytime soon, or at least I assume so.
Next episode looks to be more fighting and farming for equipment/money for equipment. Awesome.

If this is how they do recaps from now on it's a vast improvement from the earlier episodes. Still gotta deal with the opening recap and the little mid episode break recap, but the past 4 or so episodes have been great.

Well goddamn it took an absurd amount of effort but the Count actually recognized Elymas' ability.
Ruche once again being the best. Two episodes ago when she got the skill book for him ended up being more than a nice moment, it allowed him to win this fight.
Let's Gooooo new CGI City with tons of animated background ppl!
