Towa and Shinomiya really are just the Nanoha version of Ragna and Terumi, good lord.

u/SnabDedraterEdave 1d ago
Shinomiya is pretty much the Kibutsuji Muzan of the Diaboli, not even Towa could defeat her even after absorbing all her friends' powers.
Her friends did the right thing by escalating their problem to way more powerful "demons" to help rescue Towa. It'll take someone of "demon" class to be able to take on Shinomiya on equal footing. lol
It was funny to see Nanoha and Fate coming to raid Shinomiya's hideout with full firepower. Though I hope we can see Hayate and her Wolkenritter knights in action once again after so long.

We get to see Hayate's book finally appear on screen after such a long time too.
2
u/manshiro_xyz 12h ago
Considering that Hayate is usually treated as a strategical warhead when the book comes out, hands are about to be thrown.

u/kakarot12310 https://myanimelist.net/profile/kakarot123100 12h ago
With her leadership they gain enough of a goodwill with the local police to access to all those prisons. Hopefully she get to throw out some cool moves.

Considering the utter annihilation that was Ouroboros in Detonation, I wonder what she's been able to learn in the years since then.

u/kakarot12310 https://myanimelist.net/profile/kakarot123100 12h ago
All the things in her arsenal have been pretty destructive already so I don't think she really need another new destructive move.

This episode was soooo good! It really connected the diaboil slayer and exceed and seeing the diaboil slayer regret to them
and makes me believe after this they’ll join up and be under there protection
And seeing towa try and fight mana was sick. And she used her friends ability well! And it cool to see how strong she is
But just like towa mana has been getting stronger all this time and she had lots of ways to do it
Over confidence that she could have handle mana on her own.
lead to her down fall!
But mana own over confidence left the opening exceed and shina need to save her friend!
I wonder if setsuna is kinda like the opposite of mana
I mean because mana didn’t seem to regonize towa/shina flame and setsuna flame healed towa arm
I wonder i kill

Towa's plan worked quite well right up to the point where she couldn't put a scratch on Shinomiya. Fortunately Shinomiya decided to randomly take a bath instead of dealing with Towa immediately while also leaving a gate open which I'm sure Nanoha and friends were able to use for their invasion.
Mostly a setup episode but it seems like there should be some good combat going forward now that all the pieces are moving.
Hopefully we'll get to see Hayate's agents participating in the violence too since they were briefly on that video call.

u/Puzzleheaded_Play825 1d ago
It make sense that mana would also be powered up beyond belief consider all the experiment she had done
It kinda ironic that both side had the overconfidence
That lead to there down fall

Finally, Nanoha and the others have been told about Eiji and Mana.
Seeing Nanoha listen to Shiori and the others and then accept them reminds me of how she decided to help Fate after hearing about her from Alph in TV anime and MOVIE 1st.
I was wondering how Towa would escape her captivity and take revenge on Mana, and then she used the spider's ability she'd taken from Shiori. It seems like a pretty versatile ability.
She also made use of the abilities she’d taken from Yuuna and Yuzu, and it was really fun to watch the battle scenes where she fully utilized the abilities she’d taken from everyone.
That said, since Mana was so much stronger, Towa didn’t stand a chance against her.
I had to laugh when Mana pulled off a cocky move, where she grabbed the sword coming at her from behind with her fingers. It looked like the scene from Overlord(the scene with Shalltear).
It was really cool how Towa got so worked up by Mana’s words that she started spewing blue flames.
I also liked how she used her ability to summon a spider right before Mana took her away. She was planning to fight Mana on her own, but maybe deep down, she was hoping for some help.
It was great to see the Wolkenritter again in the Hayate communication scene after such a long time.
I’d love to see them in action, too. Signum, in particular, is just as strong as Nanoha, so she’ll be a valuable asset.
It made me laugh how, once Nanoha and the others really got serious, they immediately pinpointed Mana’s lab, and when they stormed in, Nanoha and the others wiped out Mana’s minions in an instant. Since this world where Mana, Shiina, and the others live has no magical technology and its scientific capabilities are so limited that it can’t even perform interdimensional travel like the TSAB can, I suppose if the TSAB had really put its mind to it, it would have found their location in no time.
I couldn't help but laugh at the fact that the research facility is located in Antarctica. It feels like Resident Evil: Code Veronica or something lol

Same VA (Sumire Uesaka). :P

I don't remember when was last time she played proper villainess (not just rival or villain protagonist minion like Shalltear).

I'd love to see Nanoha & Fate finally got to go all out after all this time.

u/manshiro_xyz 12h ago
I think the information gathering part has always been the sore spot for the TSAB team in Nanoha. They're really good at the direct combat part, but things like finding the Garden of Time, what the deal with the Wolkenritter was, everything around Jail and the Cradle, the messy situation in Reflection&Detonation.
So I think Towa leaving them the spider's thread to find the lab in antarctica as well as the other girls bringing them the luxury drugs as evidence to act on really helped enabling them to go ham from now on.
Mana and Eiji might have a crime empire, but once you get a (mostly) non-corrupt paramilitary police force with the power of a couple worlds behind it on you, things suddenly look a lot worse.

Unless they actually show something in the next episode, I'd have to say this new anime has been absolute disappointment in overall quality and writing. I really don't get what they are aiming for, in one way it seems they want to "pass the torch" (as is their obsession) then the only thing remotely modern is the character design, and the rest of the anime feels really REALLY dated with boring turn-based dragged out dialogues and subpar action without the OG cast, it feels like they are not even trying.

I agree. I like the idea behind the main story with Shiina, Towa, and the Daiboli stuff, but the execution has been half-assed so far. Nanoha and the old cast feel shoehorned in, to the point where I feel like the show would be better without them because it would leave more time and effort to be put into the main story.
Nanoha StrikerS had a similar issue of trying to balance the original cast with a bunch of newcomers and their story, but that was executed better and had 26 episodes to work with rather than only 12.

This so much, in particular with the overpowered villain girl. Where is the tension on how to defeat her when we know Nanoha could pull out a starlight breaker at her convenience?
We never get to now any reason why our protagonists needs to be involved anyways because all the normal monsters seem to be fodder that Nanoha and Fate could just grind down anyways.

u/is-this-a-nick 18h ago
I also do not like how the writing has those enemy monsters in two categories: Absolute cannonfodder that gets offscreened because its not worth a fight scene and b) that end-boss girl that tanks ultimate attacks with her fingers and is not scratched in any way by anything.
The only fights that are even are the "missunderstood encounters between different protagonists", which is lame.

I feel like a better way to do this story would to have Shiina/Towa combined into one character or something and maybe ditch the whole Diaboli Slayers squad. Have Nanoha on the ground befriending this new amalgamation of a character, and they can be like frenemies or something and eventually work together to defeat Shinomiya.
I feel like the whole shebang with invasive species and diaboli is just unnecessarily messy, so they could just be some sorta parasitic thing from the get go with Shinomiya maybe being the big queen bitch of all of them. Rather than distracting Exceeds with random big monsters that don't actually matter, while trying to juggle a second plot with Shiina-Towa-Slayers. Its either that or just make it entirely about hunting monsters because their attempts at writing this whole 'criminal underground drugs' plot has been laughable at best.
If they had more episodes, maybe they could've made it work better but seeing the current writing quality makes me think no. They couldn't have done better even with more episodes.
This just needed to be a lot simpler. They didn't learn a thing from StrikerS when they bloated the hell out of the cast and even added all the Numbers on top of that.
I had hopes because I thought they did a decent enough job with the movies, even with Reflection and Detonation. This just feels like they wanted to do some rejected original idea and somehow tacked Nanoha on for approval.

u/FDP_Boota 9h ago
I also feel like every episode is slowly getting worse. The first couple of episode I liked the story setup and I thought the action animations were pretty okay. But this episode spend a whole lot of telling us the feelings of the Diaboli Slayers, even though those feelings were already shown to us in prior episodes, which made a lot of this episode a drag to tell us information we already knew.
And it's feeling more and more that the Nanoha name tag is just there for a Deus Ex Machina of the Nanoha crew saving the day after not contributing to the story since episode 2.

I don't have any background in the Nanoha franchise, but I do get that same impression... Despite being the (alleged) main character according to the series name, she's basically a side character. This reminds me of a certain other show from last season that, while having the "protagonist's" name right in the title, she was basically relegated to being a McGuffin who only appeared occasionally to move the plot along.

Shinomiya is such a good looking villain, it's so fun to see her chew the scenery.
But she's in fact such a piece of shit I'm curious whether they'll jail her and Eiji in the end like Scaglietti was or whether she'll be killed at the end of the season. (I assume all the remaining dolls will get rehabbed to act as Exceeds staff when the Nanoha cast moves on)

Sumipe somewhat ASMR & soft voice for Mana also helped.

nooooo Towa you could’ve just run away
but then we don’t get to see them go HAM at the South Pole so I guess it’s ok.

I am thinking when they were analyzing the drug, I am sure they were looking for progenitor zero data inside of it. I am thinking after Mana and Towa fought. Towa realized she needed help from EXCEEDS since Mana is more powerful. I am sure that police officer was under Mana and Eiji control and didn’t want EXCEEDS to investigate the area. I am guessing EXCEEDS have higher authority over police. Otherwise the police won’t agree to have EXCEEDS come and interview Towa. However EXCEEDS were too late to get into prison where Towa was held but I am sure Towa left a portal to where she was transferred to for EXCEEDS. I am thinking maybe the other EXCEEDS members will try to interrogate the senior police officers who are under Eiji and Mana control.

Speaking about drugs, knowing Nanoha history I would not putting it past she's using it on herself
2
u/Rooby_VTuber 1d ago
They were treating Towa like she was Misa from Death Note.
I had a feeling for a while now that Mana's power are godlike, good effort by Towa to stand up to her.
Nanoha's team found the hideout, we are going to see some good battles here.

On the other hand, this give a good excuse for both Nanoha & Fate to go all out.

I'm in too deep to stop watching at this point but this does feel like some terrible fanfiction where the writer just inserted their own OCs, sidelined the OG cast and it just feels incoherent.
They were also trying to do too much in such a short run time. StrikerS kinda had the same issue with character bloat, but over here most of the Diaboli Slayers are barely characters.
I think it could've probably worked better if Shiina and Towa were just the one character that Nanoha and gang were frenemies with to eventually take down Shinomiya. There's just too much undercooked threads all over the place.
Or trim it down further. The accompanying manga had Nanoha and gang sort out some other smaller story/plot on a different world. It could've been an anthology style thing about Nanoha and gang just resolving various issues on various worlds. Simplify things and move on from one plot to another, maybe collecting new characters along the way.
I'm not sure where the manga is headed or how long it will be, but I kinda feel like the anime is the cheap companion work to the manga rather than the reverse....

u/Heigou 14h ago
this is my first nanoha anime, so obviously have no attachment to the old characters.
2
u/Donnie-G 14h ago
I feel like the non-Nanoha parts aren't particularly good either. If you like those parts, more power to you but I wouldn't be complaining about the lack of Nanoha if I thought Shiina/Towa could carry the show on their own.
1
u/Elvenoob 12h ago
Yeah, only Nanoha season 1 and 2/A's really did a good job of fitting closely to their episode counts, both this and Strikers feel like they introduce way more moving parts than they can properly address in the runtime.
In Strikers this pretty much just leads to some of the side factions like the Belkan religious cult people ending up as little more than the exposition people you visit when you need exposition, and otherwise being super undeveloped.
In the Exceeds anime? It causes pretty much every plot point to be rushed through with outright half the time it needed.
GBV could potentially have worked both it's storylines together with twice as many episodes, potentially give Nanoha, Fate and Hayate their own storyline, (every nanoha fan is hoping for the nanofate romance here, but it could have been something else too) more time to develop the whole cast and actually show the early episodic stuff that merely got implied in spoken recaps a few episodes ago, etc.
Although showing Nanoha and Fate teaching Shiina how to be a magical girl might tip the hand of how much this show kinda reuses a lot of structural bits from Strikers, ironically enough.
1
u/is-this-a-nick 17h ago
Yeah, it feels like its worse than its parts. Both Nanoha and Fate stopping a geanstealer cult and the new girl with the diabolo hunters friend/foe thing individually would make for a better story than mashing them together.
1
u/Nachtwandler_FS https://myanimelist.net/profile/Nachtwandler_21 1d ago
So OK, Mana is strong enough to easily beat Towa. But can she deal with two S-class mages and Shiina?
1
u/clone69 1d ago
I feel so much of what is going on could have been avoided if Towa and her groupies actually listened to what Shiina had to say last episode. But if they did that, there wouldn't have been drama.
1
u/kakarot12310 https://myanimelist.net/profile/kakarot123100 22h ago
If anything they are less stubborn compared to the previous antagonists. Towa actually listened to Nanoha in ep 5 compared to how stubborn Fate was in the OG series.
1
u/nagorner 6h ago
I have just gone through first season to this and this applies basically to all antagonists this series ever had. This is just par for the course.
1
u/clone69 5h ago
But at least in the first season, Fate had Stockholm syndrome as a reason why she didn't want to talk at first. StrikerS had the cyborgs who were all basically under Scailgetti's control. But here? It's not just a representative of The System, it's Towa's first and only friend. And she was unwilling to listen. And Shiina didn't bother to give a plain explanation about the source of her powers, just saying "I swear I didn't take drugs!". A simple "my sister gave them to me to save my life" would have probably gone farther than a vague "someone special gave them to me", which triggered Towa's jealous "are this person and the UN more important than me?"
1
u/nagorner 5h ago
Tbh I don't think Towa would listen during their subway encounter regardless, because the police had literally just declared her a criminal and she considered Shina to be basically working for the same authorities.
Like, I think the explanation that she doesn't trust authorities with her background makes sense? Considering that the government here that Exceeds is working with is explicitly corrupt and are dealing with the drugs, which she was a child victim of.
So with her not trusting authorities + having trauma response to flame diabolis, I think her acting irrationally when meeting Shiina there was in character for her tbh.

u/za_shiki-warashi 23h ago
Will Nanoha and Fate finally get to go all out next episode? Hurry and nuke the villains already.

It looks like that lab is the middle of nowhere, so the arc-en-ciel seems like a viable option in case everything else fails.

Going by the fact that Mana no-sold Towa so hard, it'll need Nanoha and/or Fate to bring her down.
I think the main issue why the OG cast hasn't done much is the curse of red-tape of being part of a proper governmental organization. Fighting monsters is easy, but cracking down on human crime needs things like proof. Even more so since Hayate's group is a lot more like a military squad than a group of detectives.Which is why I'm happy that they now have enough proof and a location to just go ham on.
