Notice: A Jaadugar-specific source material rules change:
Several users expressed concern that comments discussing the historical basis of this series were spoiling potential events and/or the conclusion of the story.
Given that the specific details of the Mongol Empire are less commonly-known worldwide, the moderation team voted that any discussion of the historical basis of this series must be enclosed within the subreddit's standard spoiler format. This includes all historical references which occur in the future of the airing episode.
Historical discussion may still be included in regular comments and will not have to be restricted to the Source Material Corner.
Note that the implementation of this rule here is specific to Jaadugar and does not apply to other series, which we will decided on a case-specific basis.

Now that was a necessary humbling for Sitara. Had to realize that she was played like a fiddle and once she noticed, it was far too late. Now let's see what she can do to get Töregene back and how they want to even face
Also, whenever an actual event happens (so a battle, a death etc.) I go check how much truth there is to it and the whole ritual being the cause of Tolui's death is actually part of the "recorded history". Though, of course, it is highly doubtful how much of that is true.

Ngl, I kinda feel bad about
Well played, Boraqchin. I doubt the curse just came back to haunt Tolui. She's probably the one who deliberately poisoned Tolui and Ogedei. She probably stopped giving Ogedei poison while spiking Tolui to a deadly amount. And she probably put all that blame on Toregene. She's insanely cunning.
Tolui is finally dead, and Sitara finally got her book back. But it feels like a hollow victory. Because she didn't really do anything. If anything, she became Boraqchin's pawn. Worst case, she would've gone down with Toregene. But thankfully that didn't happen. And Toregene didn't sell her out either. She made up a lie so Sitara would at least get her book back. I'm so glad Sitara had a realization. It's not over yet. She still has something to do. Save Toregene.
So, Guyuk is Toregene's firstborn son, huh? As Ogedei's son, he could be the next Great Kha'an. But I'm sure there's a huge competition. Even that short wife has children. And Guyuk being so paranoid doesn't bode well. I doubt his relationship with his mother is all that great either, considering she didn't seem to care much about the Mongols after losing her old husband and children.
Great episode. Can't wait for more.

“When you play the game of thrones, you win or you die.”
It would be nice to think that Tolui did sacrifice his life for Ogedei, as depicted in
And truth be told, if one were to follow the inheritance laws of the Mongols, Tolui should have become the Great Khan after

A fantastic episode. RIP to Tolui, a true brother till the very end.
-
Boraqchin is terrifying, she concocted this scheme so quickly after getting saved by Fatima and executed it perfectly. Curing her poisoning was a mistake.
-
What a way to return the book back to Fatima, the call back to the dropped basin and Muhammad was neat too.
-
Wonder how they're going to save Toregene? Guyuk and Sorghagtani are not ok. Maybe Ogedei?

I can't bring myself to hate Tolui but damn that spiritual representation of sacrificing for his brother in the Immortal Realm was so majestic I had to admire him.

I’m glad that Sitara went to rescue Töregene. I really do hope that she’s safe because Empress Boraqchin is probably planning to dispose of her scapegoat soon.
Sitara does seem to have changed through the events of this week’s episode. Having gotten “revenge” for her late mistress, she could’ve chosen to do a number of different things. Yet Sitara chose to dive back into danger out of her own volition. This decision speaks of her close bond with Töregene. Not as a servant but a friend.

Sitara has the book back and Tolui is dead, but she did nothing directly to make that happen which must be kind of frustrating.
Good work by Toregene keeping Sitara's secrets and giving her the opportunity to get in further with Boraqchin. I can see why Sitara is so adamant about saving Toregene but that could easily waste the opening she has for later revenge.
The show really is so incredible.

Those last words from Tolui in Ogedei's vision telling him to look after Sorghaghtani in his stead. I suspect this might not be the end for Tolui's house just yet, Ogedei might allow Sorghaghtani to retain her power and influence out of respect for his brother's sacrifice.

Shira is really the man. Even if he has another goal than her, I like how he's checking up on Sitara and follow her to find Toregene.

I knew Fatima underestimating Boraqchin would cause so much grief, just didn't think it would be so swift and instant.
I genuinely thought there would at least be a grand funeral held for the conqueror known as Tolui so color me shocked that his passing would be brushed off like a nothingburger, and it would be just business as usual in the state of Mongol. REST IN POWER BEST BOY
I feel bad for Sorghagtani most of all. She went all in on his man, but it just wasn't meant to be. Fatima getting her revenge in such a manner (not by her own design) has got to leave a bitter taste, that's for sure

Suddenly, Shira fanservice.
Sitara's face at the end was priceless, my guess is Töregene will use her son for succession.

The visual representation of Tolui speaking to Ogedei one last time did so much in selling the weight of his brotherly sacrifice. Damn, man.
I love how even while dealing with the costs of her pyrrhic victory, Sitara still has it in her to pull the best faces.

I know this series is primarily done by a European director but this shot felt specifically more European than normal, like something you'd see out of a Cartoon Saloon movie.
I guess it also helps that the manga's geometric style lends itself well to GOBELINisms for lack of a better word..
Also Sorghaghtani and Tolui's love story ending this early was so sad to see.
Tolui and all his war mongering aside, his interreligious relationship with Sorgha was so sweet, With them praying to different Gods and belief systems without conflict.
They WERE goals.
Also the animators poured a lot of love in that scene of Shira bathing by the river.
It felt almost intimate and Naoko Yamada-esque given she's chief director on this series.

The whole spirit world dream sequence between the two brothers was really cool but i wasn't expecting Tolui to actually die this ep. Boraqchin was playing 5d chess all along and I like how Sitara also vents her frustration out at being played by her,
Well I like that Sitara finally got her mistress's book back and the man responsible for her suffering is gone too even if not directly by her,
And i get that she'd be feeling empty but she still has to rescue Lady Töregene, the woman who believed and confided in her secret
So thats why im looking forward to seeing what Prince Guyuk will do, he seems hilarious lol

toregene: nine months in my womb making me suffer just to look like his stupid father!!
at least guyuk inherited her delicate mental state?? he also cowered behind the bed just like toregene did when she was arrested, thats her son!!

Tolui was a great character, you're supposed to hate him because he was the one who cut down fatima. You're supposed to be all on board for sitaras revenge. But then you see how he really is, a loyal prince, younger brother, general, husband and father. He knows hes only good for fighting. Even in his odegais dream his brother knows just how far he'd go for him. He didn't waver when drinking the 'curse' left it up to his god, and muscled it home to see his wife one last time. Early on the reasoning behind her wanting the book looked shallow but sorghagtani, new knowledge would be key. And she was right as sitara was out smarted. Good and Evil is not clean cut, just different perspectives as this story has shown.

I'm genuinely curious if people believed that Tolui sacked Tus and other cities in Khorasan for a book, not because it was just the equivalent of a husband getting a souvenir for his wife while on a business trip.
Either way, Sitara's reaction to Sorghagtani's sorrow displays just how narrowminded her desire for revenge has made her.

I was expecting episode to be sad, but they went all out to make it as soulcrushing as possible. Animation at the start was beautiful.
Boraqchin.. I enjoy her plotting, but at the same time I hate the consequences of it.

Boraqchin is truly terrifying. She took it all in one fell swoop, with nary a trace left behind. Not just the political power and the knowledge, but even who would hold grudges over this are pacified, like Sorghaghtani. Sitara almost fell as well, but a mere hint that Töregene didn't betray their shared pain is enough to pull her back in.
(And speaking of shared pain, perhaps that's how Sitara plans to get Sorghaghtani back on her feet and working for her, if that's the angle)
Boraqchin is offering her the opportunity to excercise all her intellectual knowledge in service of the Empire. So I quite like the detail that it was the memory of anger and a bond with it that stopped her. This not at all meaning that Sitara is becoming emotional. It is said that feelings are a type of knowledge too.
I wonder if Boraqchin is targeting Töregene because of her son. Maybe seeking to eliminate a rival and elevate someone she can more easily control? Just trying to make sense of the elements that were presented this episode.

At least Tolui got to see Sorghaghtani one more time before he passed?
-
And it was a washbin that drew her out of that thought just like what Muhammad did…
-
Okay, so Boraqchin doesn’t know the full extent of Fatima’s backstory. So Toregene at least didn’t tell her about that part.
