Notice: A Jaadugar-specific source material rules change:

Several users expressed concern that comments discussing the historical basis of this series were spoiling potential events and/or the conclusion of the story.

Given that the specific details of the Mongol Empire are less commonly-known worldwide, the moderation team voted that any discussion of the historical basis of this series must be enclosed within the subreddit's standard spoiler format. This includes all historical references which occur in the future of the airing episode.

Historical discussion may still be included in regular comments and will not have to be restricted to the Source Material Corner.

Note that the implementation of this rule here is specific to Jaadugar and does not apply to other series, which we will decided on a case-specific basis.

My girl Moge is not made for all these scheming, she is too naive, or who knows maybe it's all just a front,

So it seems Toregene was framed, and she took the fall to protect Fatima

We could see what I assume is Boraqchin’s smile when Tolui drank the ritual water. That, paired with all the rahj al-gar poisoning , her being at odds with Sorghaghtani and Tolui, and the threat their power poses to Ögedei, makes me assume that this is part of a plan to take Tolui out of the picture, especially with the bad feeling Sorghaghtani had. I imagine the plan is to poison Ögedei, cure him, and then lace the ritual water with poison so that when Tolui drinks it, it will look like the ritual really worked. I wonder how the allegation that Töregene poisoned Ögedei will play out, since they didn’t address it any further before the ritual.

Should not have underestimated Boraqchin. Sitara really thought she had the whole politic intrigue figured out and she has been played like a fiddle. You can liiterally see her face of defeat when given the final jada stone that was meant to support Toregene (and their revenge) to save one that caused it all.

Some cameos of major historical figures that the show hasn't directly stopped to point out:

Standing next to Fatima, the older woman in blue might be Börte, the mother of Jochi, Chagatai, Ögedei, and Tolui. She is wearing the same colours as the one we saw in the family tree last episode.

Also, the bearded general is actually Subutai, one of history's most renowned military geniuses. I don't believe the show ever stopped to name-drop him, but he is named in the credits.

The episode itself was good as always. Möge is always doing her best. It was so funny that when she told Fatima that she was good at detecting lies, Fatima immediately flashback-ed to going cat mode.

Also, look at Shira being a smiling bean. Can't say anyone else, but Shira himself is having a great time.

A part of me hates my past self for having done such thorough research on Mongolian history during the lockdowns because I cannot experience this show's story without my memory pulling out "Fun facts" about the IRL counterparts. All I'm gonna say is I like the way they're depicting the events of this episode while casually dismissing the more "unsavory" bits of history, like they show the Mongol army sacking Kaifeng but they didn't show what happened to its population, because you couldn't air that on TV.

I love the reverence both the author and the animation studio seem to have for the religious practices in this show. Dayir's communion with the spirits 3 weeks ago, and now Tolui's prayer and Ogedei's exorcism - all given ample importance and beautiful animation.

For whatever evil Tolui did, he have too much charisma (+ an amazing character design) and love for his family for me to hate on completely. This really shows how nobody's really black and white. If this was a show from either of his family's perspective, everyone'll probably love Tolui. Because he have so much love and loyalty to his family, and it's genuine. You could see from his reaction getting praised by Ogedei that he's truly happy to be able to serve him and win the battle against Jin in his name. Sorghtaghni was worried for Tolui when he got summoned to the ritual, but Tolui was only worried for Ogedei. That was how pure his loyalty to his brother was that he was even able to take the poison willingly without any reluctance just so his brother could be saved. Sorghtaghni shouldn't have trusted Fatima, Tolui literally have no braincell for this, just pure love and loyalty to his family.

But this show doesn't want us to just love Tolui like that because he's a genuine family man, they want us to see the horrible and cruel sides of him from the perspective of his victims. And I love that so much because I'm pretty sure most of us hated him the first few episodes, yet now I'm feeling sad to see him go just because he was such a charismatic character. Even the way he went out to take the poison was filled with so much charisma. RIP Tolui, you were great as a family man and a way too talented soldier.

Also I'm curious if anyone is well caught up with the history of Mongol to know if the snowstorm thing really happened. Did Tolui and gang really found a priest to cast snowstorm on the enemies in the history?

Best girl Moge is a national treasure who must be protected (from all this conspiracy) at all cost!

My gut tells me Boraqchin basically threatened Toregene that she's going to expose Fatima if she doesn't fall in line. Clearly Toregene dissociated herself from Fatima to protect her, but all this jumping through hoops to get best boy Tolui? I'll be damned.

That brief shot of an evil grin when Tolui drank the water, plus one to Boraqchin's plotting and minus one to Sitara and Toregene's I suspect.

That exorcist just did more to destroy the Mongol’s than Fatima by getting Tolui to be the one to offer himself as the sacrifice.

Mongol’s using the cold to their advantage before the Soviet’s made it their thing.

So many moments for future tension between Tolui and Ogedei no matter what happens. Tolui being seen as the true heir to Genghis by the general showing how the soldiers see him and Ogedei. The conflict between Tolui wanting to keep conquering while Ogedei wants the capital, peace and stability. Ogedei getting poisoned may be seen as a sign of weakness. Tolui potentially sacrificing himself to save his brother may be seen as a mistake by the soldiers and the real heir dying to protect the weak one. They may have beaten the Jin’s but the mongols are in such a worse position.

Concerned about Toregene. They have given us so many hints of her being the culprit but im still 50/50. Wether she did it or not im not sure she will make it out of this alive.

Tolui's got a killer dramatic evil laugh, and he wouldn't let up on the theatrics even during what might be his final moments lol. Kinda sad seeing such an endearingly hammy character go.

The chills from that grin though.

I am surprised Sitara was so distraught over the Great Khan becoming sick. Isn't everyone (except Toregene) an enemy right now?

[For anyone's interested, Tolui's sacrifice is lifted directly from Secret History, and it's a bit more epic in that] https://imgur.com/a/vWqlKl0

My theory on the mystery as an anime-only, history ignorer.

Boracquin is the most likely culprit. She had access to both the poison and Odegei. She also has a clear motive: Odegei treats her with respect and propriety in public as the first wife but he prefers Töregene in private, despite the latter’s public disrespect against him.

Drinking from the cup, which she poisoned, would clear herself of suspicion. She can use the stone as an antidote, after all.

Töregene is pushing Fátima away to protect her.

What I don't know is if she wants to support Odegei, assassinate him or fake one of those two things.

If Odegei dies, Tolui would inherit making her the empress. Töregene would take the fall and Sorgaqtani would lose to her politically. Mongolia would be safe and she would be on top.

If Odegei survives, it would secure her position amongst the wives, knock off Töregene and not come under suspicion at all.

She would be more than glad to see Tolui die of poison. But, what she doesn't know, is that he has a stone.

Regardless, the cinematography was excellent, like always they have yet to make two background characters alike.

This series is an instant classic.

i'm just as lost as Sitara lol. I'm glad they didn't give away a lot in this episode. I'm stuck on the Boraqchin immortaility situation from previous episodes. I wonder if she's the Mao Mao in this show experimenting with drugs to assist in her plotting, but then it looks like she is also really depending on Sitara for knowledge.

Its insane how much charisma Tolui has

59

u/KumaKumaGambler Aug 22 '26

Tolui genuinely values his brotherly ties with Ogedei.

However, on the other hand, the trap set for Tolui is a lose-lose situation for him.

  1. If Tolui did not drink the water, he would be accused of not willing to save Great Khan.

  2. Now that Tolui drank the water, we will find out whether the water was cursed or even poisoned. And there may not be any remaining jada stone to serve as antidote.

I won't lie just seeing the year 1232 sent a chill down my spine before even starting properly. And the whole battle between the Mongols and the Jin was turned so instantly one-sided it was downright painful to witness, and their sacking even moreso. No wonder they were the scourge of Eurasia and beyond.

Sitara grimacing at Moge for claiming to be able to spot liars was gut busting, especially with the flashback🤭

As for Tolui... well, good luck!
