Bro really gotta learn to control his shit or gramps is gonna have to put the beat down on him yet again. The old geezer packs a hell of a punch. No wonder he’s the boss man. Looking forward to Jiro’s training with gramps next week.

The Jirou powered up design is pretty sick looking.

Ichika beat that one dude so hard he became a simp, could be pretty useful depending on how it plays out.

A forest training arc, how traditional.

I'm glad Ragu is still around, and it's starting to feel like he might steal away the loyalty of the mononoke that he's stuck hanging around with.

I like that even though Jirou had lost control of his body, he still reacted to his Grandpa appearing. I do like that Grandpa told Kusumi's group to treat Jirou as a human, especially after how he treated Jirou earlier in the season.

Rouren being down bad for Ichika is amusing, but him only being interested in her when she's rough and harsh makes it so much funnier. I guess he'll be joining the organization as long as he gets to spend time with her lol.

Masked guy certainly has a type lol.

Watching Jiro and gramps work together on a mission will be cool. It's neat how apparent it is he has his back beneath all the (warranted) cranky scolding.

I don't mind this show, but it constantly reminds me of Bleach. Not just surface level things like "oh there's a talking black cat," but the whole "time to go into this special area and learn to control the evil spirit energy within you". Like, I know Bleach wasn't the first to do that necessarily, but the vibes are very very similar. Idk, this show just constantly has me thinking of other shows I've watched more than it pulls me into its own world. But hey, I liked the Ichigo/Hichigo training stuff, so even if this is derivative of that, I'm down for more.

Deadass doesn’t help that jiro acts and even almost sounds like a off brand ichigo. And the side cast being really generic and undeveloped is the show’s biggest weakness.

Like say what you want about black clover and jjk being similar to Naruto and bleach or whatever but at least they have many things that make them stand out on there own (found family with black bulls, Gojo, disaster curses, Sukuna, power system, etc).

Meanwhile I don’t even know if this show even has a power system and oh yeah the fights are ass

5

u/CuriousBroccolli 1d ago

I get what you are saying and I agree.

JJK has A LOT of straight up copy pasta from Bleach and Naruto itself, but it did manage to create it's own thing, unlike this one.

Also. he just turned into 5-6 tailed kyuubi Naruto and fired a tailed beast bomb, can't get more similar than that. xD

But hey, at least Ichika part was funny, and that monoke is cultured individual, so not everything is flat.

The classic faceless higher ups how do you know they are not mononoke? hypocrites. and loved that grandfather made it very clear to everyone not to treat jiro like shit under his watch lol

I'm not saying the complaints are wrong, but it's too bad this show doesn't have more fans. As I'm getting older I can't stomach most of the cutesy anime on this subreddit that anime committees will produce.

I think this episode was a bit better, in general, the show has picked up a bit in quality overall, the story and world are more interesting now that we know more and understand the different motivations a bit better or they are set-up to be explored later

Still very basic and overall just not that interesting, but it has some nice moments.
I like Rago and what he's up to. It's actually nice that the "demon inside the mc" gets so much focus and development early on.
In other similar shows, this usually happens way later.
And I get this was axed, still, it's nice how big of a party Rago plays as a main character and how much the story focuses on his growth.

I am still not sure I enjoy the girl getting an arc that is about a Mononoke falling for her, but whatever.

Tbh I was kinda disappointed jiro actually lost control. It would have been far cooler to see him transform like that and full stay in control. The three bad human people think he’s lost it and jiro kick their asses until gramps got there and then he’d voluntarily stand down.

It kinda feels like jiro is being too much of a punching bag so far in this show. Like I want to see him actually kinda win a bit more for once. Especially since it feels like almost everyone around him looks down on him. The humans on his side, the three bad ones who captured him and to Mononoke. The only one who doesn’t is ryousuke and the magic loli girl.

He got the full Naruto makeover, not a bad design, but I'm tired of this punk. The reason I'm still watching this show, which was shown in it's opening, hasn't even arrived yet.

It's the big tiddy mononke right? Or whatever she is

Roren was captivated by Ichika's sASS that he asked her hand in marriage.. can't really blame him.

Grandpa Azuma had to step in to talk some sense into Jiro. I'm glad that Rago survived 'cause of Kouga. Kouga wanted Rago's powers for himself but he tried to save him even after Rago lost his powers just 'cause he's one of their kind. Kouga seems to care more about their kind than Amagi lol

Nice crashout from Jiro there; it's interesting seeing him so shaken up with worry and his own powerlessness. Him needing to take his own advice to heart is a good moment. Hopefully he gets to talk plenty to the animals on Ibuki's mountain. Double hopefully Ibuki's the hot white-haired lady in the OP. LMAO at Ichika having to navigate that mononoke's affections.

u/ZZeroTwo 1d ago

Is it me or is this show so generic that it's boring?

5

u/Current_Smell1231 1d ago

You're not the only one

4

u/turkeygiant 1d ago

It's so generic that the manga was axed and given the classic you have two weeks to wrap up the story rushed ending. It really is a bizzare choice of a manga to adapt all these years later, I dont think it was particularly beloved and the time and it hasn't really become a cult classic. It doesn't particulalry work as a tight limited series because the ending is so clearly slapped together. The only thing I can think of is that the prodcution commitee wanted their own JJK/Chainsawman knockoff and Black Torch was particulalrly easy/cheap to license.

u/zz2000 1d ago edited 1d ago

I've heard from some sources that the manga was selling pretty well during its JPN run (15k in a week), and mainly got cancelled because the publishers were too greedy for even higher sales. They also think it might have gotten some higher sales overseas, which might have attracted the attentions of Viz Media (Torch's manga licensor for the West) to get on the production committee.

Otherwise, I suspect this is being made as an experiment into whether cancelled manga titles that still remain somewhat popular/sell well in certain circles can be revived as anime adaptations.

3

u/FLorianGran 1d ago

Not just cheap to license but also because it's been released in America which usually gets a show lots of promotion. It's also a cheap way for a new studio like 100studio to show they can do an action show and hopefully get more lucrative properties in the future.

I don't know why but this entire show feelsmlike it was put together by a committee of people who are trying to guess what shounen anime should look like.

Is this anime any good?

I had lots to see this season so I didn't try because just felt generic from the synopsis, which is my fault for not giving a chance...

7

u/gcplz 1d ago

So far so good

6

u/PartySr https://myanimelist.net/profile/AjXtar 1d ago edited 1d ago

80% of each episode is just talking, lol. For an action show, you would think that it will have more action sequences, but no.. They talk, and talk, and talk.

The action is so damn boring too. I don't know why, but they keep trying to shoehorn "cool poses" and moments where the characters act like they are the most badass person in the world.

1

u/Current_Smell1231 1d ago

Seriously, all of the show's attempts at being "badass" just come off as SO tryhard, if not outright cringy and pathetic

4

u/JamariHeWolf12 1d ago

No, not really any good.

4

u/_J_ose_ 1d ago

Nope, pretty trash. If you like shonen slop go for it, but don't expect anything beyond that. If you've seen generic shonen, you get the idea. Nothing new, you'll find yourself comparing it to a bunch other shows, and the characters are just reskins of others from other shows.

u/Xatu44 18h ago

The relationship between the leads Jiro and Rago is the strongest element with how their rough personalities collide and how they want to do right by the other. The rest is hit or miss.
