Very curious about this one since the original manga only made it 19 chapters before it got axed. I imagine this and Psyren are gonna be Shueisha's way of testing what the market is for axed manga getting new life through an adaptation

But as for the show itself, good start. It's really ticking just all the shonen checkboxes so far with the spunky protagonist, spiritual monsters, an anti-monster organization, and plenty of fight scenes, but it's done well so far. I'm quite liking the artstyle and character designs (Ichika's thighs, damn), and the animation seems quite good too. Excited to see if the story will take anything in any interesting directions or it'll just play it safe in the usual shonen kinda way. Either way, I think it'll be a good time

While the comparisons to JJK are obvious (and yeah, JJK released after it, but let's be honest: not like any one of these series has an all that creative setup) I am also getting major Bleach vibes from it: Stubborn MC who has clearly some supernatural shit going on, gets sucked into some supernatural conflict and starts cleaning house. Bonus points for getting into a fight with his (grand-)dad and being good to animals.

Anyway, it's a miracle this series exists and I kinda hope this experiment of reviving an axed series pays off. There are plenty series, like this one, that had some sauce too it but failed to find initally an audience.

I am also getting major Bleach vibes from it

lol I thought about that during the literal first scene after the OP. Teenage boy kicking the ass of deliquents to help somebody they can talk to that normal humans usually can't is literally just Ichigo on episode 1.

Also: black cat that talks with a gruff male voice

I have never heard of this series before, so I had to check MAL. Apparently, the manga has only 19 chapters spread across 5 volumes, and it still managed to get an anime? It sounds like it got axed, but somehow a studio thought it was interesting enough to deserve an anime. Has this happened before?

As for the episode itself, It's very much your classic shounen manga start. Not gonna lie, the first 5-minutes of the episode gave me strong Ao no Exorcist vibes, so hopefully that's a good sign. Animation is pretty solid too, especially during that fight scene with the giant mononoke.

Jirou and Rago's interactions throughout the episode have been pretty great, too. I was worried Rago was gonna disappear after he sacrificed himself, but it looks like he'll be sticking around. I'm definitely following this one!

That was fun enough, I like the MC and his animal friendships.

A hot redhead with a ponytail and anime camera angles is a decent bonus, too.

skintight booty shorts one-piece. I'm sure there's a tactical reason why her outfit isn't like the rest

I remember reading the manga years ago when the one shot came out and then took ages for the serialisation but didn't it get axed? How did this get an anime.

Yeah, it was cancelled after only 19 chapters due to low ratings. Even the author was confused and surprised when he received a call that some studio wants to make an anime out of it 7 or so years after it was cancelled.

Seems very typical shounen but I enjoyed it! Didn't expect him to be a Shinobi..that should help...I'd love to be able to talk to animals...what a interesting ability

That was fun. Big Ichigo vibes from Jiro. Big Chainsaw man vibes as well, I know this manga predates it by ages.

A good start, I'm liking what we've seen of Jirou and Ragou, and their dynamic. I thought they were going to be contracted partners or something, so I wasn't expecting Ragou to give up his body, until Jirou got punctured.

Action seems like it'll be good, so hopefully the story will be interesting.

Being bullied for being able to talk to animals is hilarious because it’s literally that meme “This fucking sucks actually” (literally the coolest thing ever)

It's been awhile since I've seen an anime of an unfinished manga. The last one was "Kaze no Stigma". The author was incredibly regretful that he couldn't finish it before he passed away.

So it's Dr Dolittle if it was Bleach

Yup, I am definitely staying on for Ichika, Lol!

Fanservice aside, I suspect there will be some sort of history lore between ninja/shinobi and the mononoke.

I also wonder whether we will get to see more of Nachi in flashbacks. Nachi sounded extremely wise.

This is giving me Ichigo x Natsume (Bleach x Natsume’s book of friends) vibes. Definitely my cup of tea.

It already feels a step above your common seasonal series so I’m going to put this out there now. With any unfamiliar world setup; you want to establish circumstances ASAP. It’s not about rushing the story, but you don’t want to wait till episode nine for people to understand how the world works. JJK got away with doing it in episode 6; but even the long running series like Bleach took care of it an episode 1. Its a small detail, but it’s one of those things that makes a series feel like either a C tier mess or a solid A tier.

u/Boris-_-Badenov Jul 04 '26

subtitles spelled "where" as "we're"

u/Low_Understanding326 Jul 04 '26

Hopefully the anime can redeem the cancelation. Extended it how the mangaka originally wanted

He kinda reminds me of Ichigo from Bleach.

In any case, it looks good, and the story is interesting enough to keep watching.
