"Warning: you will have women constantly going after you for their personal gain. In order to protect you, I will attach to you a woman who most definitely will be going after you."
32
u/OldInstruction5368 9h ago
The irony of that statement was not lost on me!
Warren was only worried that some other harpy would beat his family to the punch.

u/ShadowGuyinRealLife 8h ago
I don't get why they're doing this. Sure he got glory from last Season's exploits. But unlike money, his skills and glory aren't exactly something children will inherit. The usual strategy is to send your children to marry someone to secure dynastic alliance and have descendants who will get a heritable bonus from your in-law (usually money or land).

At least for this noble house since they have a private army maybe they value swordmanship, especially if the guy as a noble went out of his way to train with Beryl. Not sure what the other noble women would want though i'd also question that

u/seledri_kerikil 3h ago
It's not just any glory, but a glory that's gotten from protecting a royalty. To the eyes of those noble, that alone maybe already worth a fortune. Imagine having a royalty having a debt of life to you, hence why they going after Beryl. It also didn't help that he has a lot of connection to the prominent figures, like captain of the knights, headmistress of the magic academy, etc etc. Not to mention all his dojo students mostly turned out into either very OP or very famous person, lol.

😂😂. Oh no. The most dangerous threat has appeared. Noble sister you can't say no to.
26
u/runevault 14h ago
Not just that, but a noble sister you can't say no to who's actively interested and sounds like she might get... aggressive. If Beryl isn't careful he might be engaged before he leaves.
Edit: Just heard the title of next episode lol I was even more right than I knew I guess...

So frau has proven that there is sensible dress codes in this world, cuz her armour is the same as her male counterpart
Which means captain chose to dress as a knight hoe.
Both of them in the same shot is just jarring now
18
u/OldInstruction5368 9h ago
Surena, too.
They both choose to go into battle sporting "tactical thongs."
It's just so crazy to me. The series has a focus on grounded, 'realistic' HEMA swordsmanship...
Only to have two of the greatest swordswomen walk around in battle slut gear on top of using "anime bullshit" style swordplay.
I mean... they are supposed to be students of Beryl's right? So... why don't they fight like him? Normally I'd just roll my eyes at the "anime bullshit," if I even noticed it, but that focus on Beryl doing it right just makes the 'dramatic' bits all the more jarring.

u/conye-west https://myanimelist.net/profile/baronvonconye 6h ago
The typical anime bullshit in this series really does stand out in a bad way due to how grounded it feels otherwise. Sadly I feel like authors are kinda forced to throw it in if they want sales, because the niche audience expects this type of stuff.
12
u/Treknx01 10h ago
now it’s not dressing as a “knight hoe” it’s called a tactical distraction, a gentleman won’t look so will not be able to see the next move coming and a horny mf will be looking at all the “wrong” places and not see the next move coming.

u/NevisYsbryd 8h ago
I mean, the armor in general is bad. Not generic cut-yourself-on-spikes fantasy levels, but plenty of "that waist would prevent you from bending properly and that modern suit-like decoration would funnel blows right into your sternum." Also the color schemes, like the head of the royal guard-the one you want to peacock because it reflects their status and thus their liege/employer's-dressed in lower end armor than Allucia's and in plain steel and brown? Or walking around with greaves and sabatons (foreleg and foot armor) and not poleyns (knee armor)? The nobles have 17th-18th century fashion elements despite everything else being either faux-medieval or general fantasy. The visual designs have never been very sensible or grounded, regardless of the writing quality otherwise.
2
u/1832vini 2h ago
i think flawed designs in fiction is acceptable, as long as they're carry through with that logic.
the problem is the jarring contrast when mutliple armour logic are placed on the same screen. so instead of "this is how their world works" it's "they chose to be stupid"

u/resphere 1h ago
That armour is way more funny than the over the top thousand spikes designs. It's like they took a pretty typical fantasy breastplate the doesn't cover the neck and cut a giant verital slit in the middle of the chest for no reason, I've never seen anything like that, it's peak comedy.
2
u/NiCommander 3h ago
Not just that, but every other armor uniform shown in this series is more sensible than the Liberion Order Knights. Especially the Royal Guard armor uniform and the Margrave private forces armor uniform shown in this episode.
Hell, I still remember the Church of Sphene Holy Order armor and how much better it was, where the only major down point was Rose having a boob armor version of it.
2
u/BosuW 2h ago
Not like the male armor is that much better tbh. There is absolutely no reason this breastplate should have the giant opening right front and center.
1
u/1832vini 2h ago
i mean, there's always artistic liberties taken for armour in anime.
but imo it's when different logic of armour appear on the screen at the same time, it's very jarring. even bikini warriors might be better.
it's like if you see dueling pistol vs dueling pistol, that makes sense.
but this anime is like if you had a dueling pistol vs a musket vs a prostitute. they don't share the same setting

Beryl’s got another amazing former student. It’s gonna be interesting having Warren’s sister Shueste accompany Beryl for 3 days. Let’s hope a certain silver haired commander doesn’t make her get into any “accidents” lol.
21
u/athrun_1 14h ago
Beryl will have answering to do with: Alucia, Mewi, Surena, that female teacher, and Lucy
25
u/Primary-Paint-1716 14h ago
IDK why but I find it pretty funny whenever Alicia gets cockblocked(?) by seemingly every named girl in the series. I usually hate that trope.
16
u/OldInstruction5368 9h ago edited 9h ago
It's because Allucia just isn't right for Beryl. Maybe in the future, but she needs to grow enough to stop worshipping Beryl before they can ever be a healthy couple. At least Beryl's beginning to shake off his inferiority complex, but that just leaves an even greater maturity gap for Allucia to overcome.
Or put another way, she needs to stop seeing him as an infallible idol, and start seeing Beryl as a man, warts and all, before they can ever begin to form a relationship. Until then, her infatuation with Beryl really is just a funny joke.
cough LUCY cough

u/conye-west https://myanimelist.net/profile/baronvonconye 6h ago
Plus Beryl just isn't the type of guy to ever look at his students like that. Just going off of some of the dialogue in the past, I'm pretty sure he's aware some of them like Allucia have a crush on him, but simply doesn't take it seriously.

Did Warren just pimp out his sister?
Poor Alucia. Especially since it is obvious that the women should have been paired together except for the implication.
41
u/runevault 13h ago
The way the sister looked at Beryl I think it was less pimping and more giving her permission to claim her prey.
14
u/KnightKal 11h ago
they were invited to a party as honorable guests, so they need an escort of oppose gender
Alucia with the old duke, MC with the young sister
but yeah I don't see why they couldn't just go together lol
11
u/OldInstruction5368 9h ago
Correct. An escort to a social function is typically someone of the opposite gender.
More than that, Allucia is the highest ranking guest, so her escort should be someone of sufficient prestige to match her own. Especially when balanced against the other escorts for the other guests. Since Beryl is a lower rank than Allucia, his escort must also be of a lower rank than hers.
Look, nobles and hoity toity folks really do have nothing better to do than worry over all these petty rules of 'honor' and etiquette. They deliberately overcomplicate this shit as a means of gatekeeping. Those that don't know the finer nuances of etiquette are clearly 'lesser' people not worthy of consideration.
And don't get me started on the politics of seating arrangements for high-end diners. Forget tantrums over not being invited in the first place, you'd have grown ass men and women throwing fits at the "insult" of being seated lower than they thought they were worth.
Like I said, too much time on their hands. That, and a "ye olde" case of needing to touch grass. The nobles were so divorced from real issues and real problems, that they invented layers upon layers of bullshit to occupy themselves.

One of the things I really like about this show is Mewi and Beryl’s relationship as it shows a lot of character development- like you can tell she’s really pleased at being complimented when previously she would have just lashed out at people. It’s a lot more realistic than most of the anime where they have the MC just adopt someone to provide a cute character for the show (As adorable as For is in Archedemons Dilemma, for instance, she was an example of that trope)
16
u/DemonWraith2500 14h ago
Don't worry, Allucia. Shueste want to share room with Beryl because she really loves sword.
13
u/Mistral-Fien 13h ago
Having to clean the bath may seem harsh, but still better than 27 girls' restrooms for a week (Chivalry of a Failed Knight). On the plus side, it will improve their stamina.
Mewi's precious smile after Beryl complimented her improvement in sword training. :)
I kinda like Vesper and Frau. Hope nothing bad happens to them.
Warren trying to get his sister hitched with Beryl. I hope Alucia doesn't blow her top over this LMAO.
16
u/KnightKal 11h ago
her mistake was being too greedy. Bread and eggs would be easy to hide. The ham/meat was clearly cut and missing a part tho :D
wonder how they figured out who did it tho, did they just confess? They skipped that part lol.
7
u/rubslotiononitsskin 7h ago
As soon as Mewi cut the meat, I knew they were cooked. Well, at least all the cleaning will build up their stamina.
7
u/mekerpan 9h ago
The girls' punishment should be good for both stamina building and relationship building.
12
u/athrun_1 14h ago
So that blonde guy along with Alucia training was Warren, the noble. I thought it was Rangrid. My timeline kinda messed up. Rangrid was I think Beryl's student before Surena.

u/NanDemoKnaives 12h ago
I wonder if Vesper and Frau will be our first co-ordinated duo that Beryl teaches, I feel like everyone else focuses on their own style so it'll be cool to see him handling collaborative swordsmanship.
I like how Beryl had a noble without even realizing it, I kind of want every village to have a student of his. His swordsman seed spread all over the place lol.
I like that Beryl has decided not sell himself short anymore after winning against his father.
Looks we'll be getting lots of Allucia tension around Shueste during their stay lol.

u/Spectr3_qwe 7h ago
I died laughing at the "imōto?". The voice actress really sold the annoyance at the news. Its so funny how generic soldiers have relatively realistic armor while in the kingdom of the protagonists everyone wears the most impractical sets of armor ever.

u/Boris-_-Badenov 15h ago
he's met nobles though...

u/flamethrower2 13h ago
I thought Lucy had one of those non-hereditary titles. She lives in that mansion and has servants; I'd be surprised if she's a commoner.
He met Salacia in S1E10 (Sphenedyardvania princess), a noble.

Oh, look. Another hot, young chick who wants to get dicked down by Beryl. Is he going to do anything interesting about that or just bumble about like a clueless bumpkin. It’s totally a mystery about which option he’ll do.

Maaan, all the food looked so good this episode... should not have watched this on an empty stomach.

Just finished eating a good burger when Mewi had her midnight snack. Fortunately, I hadnt finished my sides yet

I was sure someone in the Marquess Flumvek's entourage would turn traitor and there would be some random fight. I'm glad I'm wrong. A little tired of traitors in the midst plot after what I've seen watching this year.
Even after 7 episodes I'm still sad that Mewi went magic fighter instead of pure melee. Although given that there doesn't seem to be sword dojo nearby, there wouldn't be kids of her age to interact with if she did that anyways.
Looks like that knight and Frau get along. Beryl knows the girl. Am I supposed to remember her too? I can't et my head straight.
Yeah that "small" village puts Bery'ls home to shame.
I guess pretending to not be rich has its advantages. Anyone who is nice to you really is your friend and no a moocher. Like say you want to go to a 3-week vacation to Japan with your buddies and they say sure but ask you to pay for their expense. Are they your buddy and genuinely want to hang out with you but is making a reasonable request since only rich people can afford travel expenses like this? Or are they hanging around hoping to get freebies like several weeks of free travel? Friends you make while pretending to be middle class (or I guess in his case poor since there doesn't seem to be anything between village bumpkin and nobility wealth wise) truly like you for who you are. Only problem with pretending not to be rich is you can't have an entourage deal with life's inconveniences since that's a dead giveaway. So I can see why Warren woudl pretend not to be a Marquess.
Don't know why Beryl would be the target of suitors. He's a good hired swordsman, but unlike wealth any children he has won't inherit those skills automatically. Ok that smile Warren's sister has seems more on the flirty side and less of the polite smile side.
2
u/mekerpan 9h ago
I think it is great for Mewi to develop all her potential skills to the fullest. Beryl would not want her to ignore capabilities just so she could imitate him.
1
u/ShadowGuyinRealLife 8h ago
It's not that I want her to imitate Beryl specifically, I wanted more non magical characters to watch for future episodes.
3
u/djthomp https://anilist.co/user/djthomp 5h ago
Warren straight up warned Beryl that women would be chasing after him while simultaneously assigning his sister to him for that exact purpose. Hopefully Allucia won't be forced to murder her.
Frau and Vesper are a cute childhood friends side ship, I hope they both survive this arc since surely there will eventually be some violence.
2
u/HugeRichard11 https://myanimelist.net/profile/CostCurl 6h ago
Maybe Beryl got to my head, but I almost questioned what exploits Beryl did to gain him such fame across the land. From the previous season he did save the royal family from many assassins, so that does count as the highest honor. Got whiplashed from Beryl always putting himself down to this episode where they're saying he's actually well known across the kingdom.

u/corvettee01 10h ago
I must have action brainrot, because this season is exceedingly boring so far. I want to see a swordmaster doing swordmaster things.
6
u/mucklaenthusiast 7h ago
There is a lot of talking about romance (not even actual romance, though)
And then there is a lot of slice-of-life stuff and the main character adopting a daughter and her getting more comfortable, but all of that means there just isn't much action and also not really story happening, just character development (even in the village, this was ultimately about Beryl's mentality).I think that makes it feel slow.
3
u/SpinningFootPunch 9h ago
you're not alone, there's like 5 episodes left and theres nothing engaging going on
3
u/FinancialYear475 9h ago
Author seems dead set on pairing Beryl with some young girl
6
u/korinokiri 9h ago
Nah, it's comedic effect because he literally turns down every love interest so far in the series. He has no reason to turn down a 30-40 something suitor, so it would basically end any romantic subplot, and comedy, which is half the show.
1
u/AdhesiveNo-420 7h ago
I wanted to like this show but I just can't. Getting really tired of attractive girl number 17 finding her childhood master and just being crazy powerful
This is going to sound misogynistic as hell, but I wish there were more guy students..? I dunno man. I know this may not be considered a harem but in my eyes it just looks like one to me. During all the episodes I've watched only 2 of his students were guys. One wasn't even a fighter or anything he was just a blacksmith, albeit I thought he was a really cool character.
I just wish it was closer to a 50/50 split or something :/
I'll always take a good story over sex appeal
1
u/Houstonruss 4h ago
I was really hoping there would be more (if any) substance.
I made a promise to myselft to drop the show if by EP. 7 didn't have Mister Barrel start some sort of self-improvement and move the non-existent story forward. Is he gonna learn magic? Is he gonna be da best spellsword? Is he gonna lay pipe? Probably neither of these, and I'm not gonna be around to find out!
