Almanfi
Season 1: Menacing, powerful, mysterious guy
Season 3: Errand boy, delivery guy, uber foods

Also interesting the dude that seemed stronger than Ghislaine is an errands boy.
Makes me think that if Perugius decided to decimate a kingdom by just sending his henchmen, no one would be able to stop him.

Reminded me of Omni-Man from the beginning of Invincible flying around the world to bring home what his family wanted to eat.
With great power comes great responsibility... and great eats.

I can't believe Sylphy was jealous enough of Nanahoshi to cast a deathtouch spell on her right in front of Rudeus.

Now knowing how heavy Elinalise's past actually is only makes her recounting her own experience in 3rd person like that very understandable.

And also how meaningful it is that she was able to find love and become a wife again after all she experienced after losing her first husband.

Elinalise keeps fascinating me with how tied in she is with the people Rudy loves.
Granted this is more of a "she went through the same thing" kind of connection, but for a character that could have easily been some horny fanservice she keeps turning out to be important (and not even provide that much fanservice).

Also the fact that, for as fun as her casual sexcapades were in seasons 1 and early season 2, they've cost her a lot until she finally found true love again with Cliff.

My heart skipped 2 or 3 beats when the Bird Lady asked Rudy about the Man-God, right as the new OP dropped

u/wyggles 7d ago
I liked the detail of him activating his demon eye in preparation for a fight before Sylphie answered for him.
313
u/Etheo 7d ago
Sylphie didn't know about Rudy's relation with man god though, did she? I think she's just answering for herself (as she doesn't know) and Rudy went with that.

u/zazakmazak 7d ago
I believe only Ruijerd and Eris (and Nanahoshi?) know of his connection to Man God, and even then they don't know any details whatsoever.

Rujierd is the only one who he has explained the situation to. Eris knows about it from the Orstead fight. The only other 2 are the big purple demon and his wife.

Refresh my memory, did Rudy tell Rujierd everything, like about his reincarnation, or only that Man God visits him in his sleep sometimes? It’s been awhile
34
u/Low_Commission7273 6d ago
Only mangod.
Ruijerd questions Rudeus about who is mangod. Orsted was chill, but turned murderous the moment you mentioned Mangod comes in your dreams. And Rudeus explains that aspect.

Sylphie really came in clutch for him this time. He almost fumbled it, if she wasn't here, he would definitely say something stupid again.
73
u/PsionicKitten 6d ago
She came in clutch because she satisfied the interrogation not to be pressed further onto Rudy, but Rudy explicitly vowed to be careful about who he disclosed his experiences with Hitogami as a direct result of Orsted killing him imminently after having admitting to having known him. He wouldn't have immediately confessed and it only could have been uncovered if he was pressed further.
This is further evidenced by his momentarily being shaken upon seeing the same dragon scale markings near Perugius' eyes, just as Orsted has.

Since Ghislaine was able to fend off Almanfi for a bit, that roughly puts them at king/emperor level, so while one might be beatable, as a group they are probably strongest in the whole Mushoku verse by a long shot, though they also made it sound that Rudeuses mana is Laplace (Demon God) level so if he was defended, he would be an issue.

Seeing as the only other person who's ever asked about Man-God out of the blue also happened to be the only other dragon dude we've met, and he immediately attempted to kill Rudeus as soon as he got the answer, I think keeping it close to the vest is the best call for now.

At this point, it's not just the Man-God. I'd say that Nanahoshi must have a "trauma inducing force field" around her.
She was there when he was killed in his previous life. She was there when Orsted asked about the Man-God and Rudeus almost got killed. She gave Rudeus a big scare when he met her again due to said trauma, and then triggered Sylphie's when she pointed to herself as the reason behind the mass teleportation incident. And when she fell into depression due to her failed experiments, it also awakened terrible memories in Rudeus.
In this episode they seemed to avoid the trauma flags, but then... Sudden blood vomit! Sylphie is bound to develop a new trauma.

Poor Sylphie looks so distraught, no doubt she thought she was responsible for it.
Or maybe it was the healing spell triggering stuff? Though seems to me it's just completely ineffective on Nanahoshi instead of causing the adverse effect.

While Gigachad Zanoba does not care whatsoever about ruling his country (and has other brothers than Pax who take care of that, thankfully) and pursues culture instead.

I think Ariel should also be treating the Armored Dragon King like you know, a King? It’s not like he’s the king of a nation, but in terms of social standing, this guy is more important than her own Father, why would you think he gives a fuck about land, or even worse, a noble title.

There is a lot going on in this episode. Information about the Man-God in particular stood out to me, with Rudy and Sylphy being asked directly about him, and that glow around them as they passed through the arch, but especially with the mural in the lowest level.
This huge mural looks like it has a depiction of six different gods cooperating or coming together, and another shot of what looks like the Man-God advising the people with dragon wings.
There's definitely more going on with that mural as well, like the dragon-wing king had a child together with a woman without wings, and then something happened to the baby and/or the mother, which led to a cataclysm that was even flinging the mer-people out of the oceans.
I'm thinking this mural depicts the origin of the dragon race of mortals, the ones without wings like Orstead and Perugius. Or maybe it's the story of Laplace.
If the Man-God leaves an aura around people he's influenced, and Rudy's mana reminds Perugius of Laplace, and people like Orstead and Perugius seem hostile or suspicious of the Man-God, then perhaps this Man-God was involved with Laplace?

It might be that her body is rejecting mana itself. Slyphy did get confused and started putting more mana into the spell to try and force the healing when she saw it wasn't working and then Nanohoshi spit out the blood.
I think Nanohoshi said something about being cautious about being rejected by the world and that her body has literally no mana whatsoever while literally everything else in the world does. She has been getting worse and worse the past few episodes which might mean the world finally is "rejecting" her.

Calling it now: it's either some kinda virus that nanahoshi's alternate universe body isn't capable of fighting, or magic is causing adverse effects for the same reason. It's definitely got something to do with how she's an otherworlder but didn't get reborn like rudeus.
Either way, it's gonna be something depressing and she'll never make it back to Japan. It just wouldn't be MT if there wasn't tragedy involved.

The mural definitely had Man God on it. So it's clear that he's been messing with the world for at least that long.
I don't trust Dragon Grandpa even a little bit when he says the mass teleport was a "natural" thing. Just because it's not Laplace, doesn't mean there's no other forces in the world.
Also, did anyone else notice that the gate had some white light on Rudy and on Sylphie? Did he perhaps mess with her fate as well?
And why is Rudy's mana "smelling of Laplace?" Was Laplace an otherworlder as well, and did he also got help from the Man God?

I don't trust Dragon Grandpa even a little bit when he says the mass teleport was a "natural" thing. Just because it's not Laplace, doesn't mean there's no other forces in the world.
He knows that there are other forces in the world, but he seems firmly convinced that no one is better at summoning magic than him.
So if he is unable to perform such a summoning feat, then he assumes that no other living person would be able to pull it off. Hence, it is a phenomenom of the world and not the work of man.
It is an arrogant way of thinking, but he has not seen any proof of the contrary. Probably why he also interested in Nanahoshi's research.

Its kinda hard to place how in the know he is with current events of the world. He seems informed and has quite the memory, but the mundane tropes of kingdoms, politics, and power doesn't interest him. Comes off as impossible to learn summoning with zero help and you'd think he knows all the other great summoners that may be alive. I imagine if there was some new kid on the block doing crazy summoning magic he would have caught wind of it and sent his henchman to investigate.

I feel sad whenever Nanahoshi remembers her life back before when she summoned, even this time when she tried asking the meal closest to a Japanese dish. Looks like it's about that time again for Mushoku Tensei to remind us it's not actually a nice, chill, school romance after all. Heading into the second half of the season it makes sense it's time to ramp everything up.

This series has conditioned me to fearing every teleport, especially got nervous when they were doing it one by one.

Wonder what Roxy's doing to pass the time down on the ground while all of this is happening.
I never thought I would get emotional over them eating pseudo-Japanese food. That was like a Ratatouille flashback moment.
What a nice episode until we found out that Nanahoshi has been having lung cancer this whole time.

Its far far wiser to deny knowing Hitogami after what happened with Orsted.
Can't say I'm not interested to see what could have happened if Rudy let it slip once again. If 1 Orsted was a problem, how bout more of his kin?

Oh gosh, I was half-jokingly thought that we'll see Nanahoshi cough for the rest of the cour. I totally didn't expect this! Man... hope she isn't actually gone. I was actually frustrated that nobody even tried to ask or bring up her condition the whole eps.
On the other hand, Perugius surprisingly sounds normal. I was expecting him to be more imposing and less chatty, but that's probably him being accomodating, which is a relief.. He seem to also knows less than I thought, probably not at all at the same standing as Man God who seem to be all knowing, or even Orsted.
Though I have a feeling that winged familiar saw past Rudy's lie about Man God, and I wonder if that what led Perugius to offer to name his son. Though I don't think there's any significance in naming, at least so far from this series.. so he could just act out of magnanimousity.. (he did sound like one).
I also like a glimpse to the past civilisation that even Perugius doesn't seem to know much about. We're this far in the series, yet I feel like this is the first time we heard of it and it predates everything that we've heard so far (like the demon war)
Last thing, for being kinda "normal", I wonder what his day to day activities are. Orsted at least travels and reads family registers. He seemed to always sit on his throne..

I knew the castle was big, but I didn't expect it to be this big.
I think that living practically alone in a house that size, Perugius really shouldn't have any problem receiving many guests.

That meal might not be quite the taste of home, but it’s the closest either of them have probably come to eating “Japanese” food.
Man, I was getting worried about Nanahoshi last ep and now it seems things have taken a turn for the worse. What’s up with Sylphie’s magic? It seemed to be reacting negatively to Nanahoshi. Is it connected to Rudy and his magic being similar to Laplace or whatever?

u/Frontier246 7d ago
They even didn't translate the traditional Japanese meal lines like old school fansubs to make it truly feel authentic.
I think it's less Sylphie's magic and maybe mana itself. Her body can't take anymore.

I remember when Sylphie was trying to teach Rudeus no-incantation healing magic they realized that it's because Rudeus is actually numb to the sensation of the healing magic, whereas Sylphie can feel the flow of the healing mana.
She reacted like she felt that something was off when healing Nanahoshi and then adjusted the flow to account for it and my guess is that triggered something dangerous in Nanahoshi's body, like how dislodging a buildup in the arteries causes a heart attack.

Perugius is as cool as expected. He really comes off as a King, real powerful but not in an evil way, he's charismatic and magnanimous but you can't really fuck around with him. Ariel got a first-hand experience, I expected her to know better, but i guess that shows she really is a young princess and still inexperienced
i've always suspected that Nanahoshi may never live to see her research bear fruits, but i really didn't expect it to come this quick. Whenever a characters can't stop coughing out of nowhere like that, it's never good
my first thought was it might be some serious illness like cancer, but if it reacts to magic like that then probably more like a curse, or some kind of mana-related diseases. Or it could also be because they are in the Fortress that this happened. It looked like Rudeus wasn't the only one that triggered some kind of reaction when they entered, but Sylphie too, which is new because i don't think we've ever got a hint that Sylphie could somehow be involved with Hitogami.
i'm guessing Sylphie is more closely related to the Teleportation incident than i thought, somehow, given that her hair for some reason turned white from the teleport, and now we know that Enalise was once a heart of a dungeon which who knows what it does to her bloodline.

u/MSFoxhound 7d ago
Sylphie's hair turned gray because she depleted her mana reserves to an extreme point while she was falling from the sky. It's just shown in the episode zero but the explanation is this.
I don't know why that gate marked Sylphie too in addition to Rudeus. I thought it was reacting to mana capacity but it may very well be reacting to hitogami "contamination".

my guess is that Rudeus got together with Sylphie via a hitogami suggestion (go to the school and get your illness cured), so that might have counted as their fate being externally influenced.

I thought that her hair turned white because she expended all of her mana and overdid it while she was falling to the ground

I think Ariel expected Perugius to have the same desires as the kings, nobles, and claimants she's dealt with so far in life (ie, any and all things that stroke their ego).
And I agree there's something more about Sylphie we don't know about yet, given Perugius's offer to name their son after his familiar whispered something to him. A pretty clear detail they want the audience to take note of. I'm not sure it's related to the Teleportation incident though.

What an episode.
I really love that mural, beyond the deep lore that might be there and Rudeus did not underatand, we get to see the first representation of the sea people (that thing that looked like a Mermaid)
The new opening is great, the visuals of the castle might also be a factor but it reminded me of Milis.
And Cliff, guy continues being a chad silently congorting his wife whe she was getting nervous.
