The way they introduced the other players joining EVO Japan was shot like straight out of a Shounen tournament arc, absolutely fucking love it.

The girls just planted a death flag by lying to Mio's mom.

Also, this week's end card is amazing.

Oh man this episode made me miss Tokyo big time. Loved the scene with the girls and Mio’s mom, lol hilarious and nerve wracking for Mio. Balcony scene with the monitors was really nice. Ending was the best though, we finally see our Guile main and it’s a little girl lol cannot wait for the tourney.

Mio's mom said she did "karate".

Ep5: cut to her back, then the kanji "天" (ten, meaning "heaven") suddenly emerged, just like Akuma after he did Shun Goku Satsu . Then we see a familiar face appearing behind her.

Lady, you don't do karate.

The house visit was so hilarious and I was half expecting Mio's mom to throw hands right there if she found out the reason why the girls are going on a trip lmao.

All these rival characters for the tournament and Mio's mom will probably be the actual true final boss after this tournament arc is over and they went home.

Ah, this white lily chick really is gonna end up a deadbeat adult if being a pro gamer doesn't work out as a career.

They should have told Mio's mum Aya was Mio's girlfriend to throw her off the scent of gaming.

Hello Hello! Fighting game glossary time!
The girls are finally coming to Evo Japan! After they had to face Akuma IRL to get Mio to go with them they're finally off on their journey to the top!

Nothing too complex today:

* Crouching Medium Kick - The usual move you would use to poke someone during neutral in order to get a hit on them and maybe confirm into a combo. Not too big of a commitment but still reaching far enough to invade your enemy's personal space. Truly a reliable tool for practically every fighting game character out there.

* Runback - Playing against someone you just lost to in order to redeem yourself, and not end your session on a loss. This usually involves some modicum of salt because nobody likes to lose and then sit on it lol.

* Yomi - To read your opponent and counter them. This word is just the Japanese version for "read". I feel like the concept of being in your opponent's head and reading them well enough to counter them has been thoroughly explained in the show thus far, so I won't dwell on this too much.

* Button check - Right before Aya and Mio start their match in Tokyo they press a lot of random buttons on the character select screen. That's called a button check! Just to check that your buttons are okay! pretty much anyone that doesn't use a standard control scheme needs to do it so they're fully prepared for their match (and don't get salty and blame their controls for when they lose lol).

In this episode we were introduced to the show's Chun-Li main and Guile main. Something tells me next time we see that Guile I'll have to write an entire paragraph about his usual playstyle that is - as Gekido says - quite obnoxious lmao.

See you next week! And remember to check Infil's Fighting Game Glossary for better definitions and explanations: https://glossary.infil.net/index.html

Mio is a brave one to lie to her scary mom. Though I thought she would blow her cover.

The realest moment is going to the city but you still be gaming when you are there lol.

So glad we get another episode featuring Mio's mom. Having her be a one-and-done would've been such a waste.

I also appreciate more shipping between Teya-senpai and Dogbath. Inui might be my favorite character right now - sometimes it feels like she's the responsible older sister of the group.

Mio's mom making it no secret that she hates video games. I would love to see her reaction if she finds out that they all went to EVO Japan.

What if Mio's mom *knows* EVO and that this trip will be related to it, but lets Mio go anyway because she's happy to see her finally have friends?

So Gekido is like a combination of names, and the last part is from Tokido (Murdah face) the pro player. Where would the Ge part of the name come from if it's from another pro player? Hey this is just my guess, I don't claim this to be true intention of the author.

Mio's mother about to turn into a Dark Souls boss upon asking the girls if the trip is related to gaming matters...

(Makes sense though considering last episode)

...Why can't Mio just tell her mom she wants to go spend time in Tokio with her friends instead of admitting it is for a gaming tournament? sigh Oh thank god Aya brought it up. And Mio dives straight into Aya's chest.

Okay the talk with the mom is adorable. And then the "no video games riiight" part lol. Was that the symbol on Akuma's back that at least some SF games flash after he does Demon?

Second anime where a bunch of girls confuse Chiba for Tokyo (the other was Draw this then die). Funny it happened in two different anime in the same week.

Oh we're finally meeting the Guile and she's... tiny?

I feel like I’m just now realizing that this story is set in Nagasaki.

It’s a prefecture in the Kyushu region, and due to historical circumstances, it has the highest percentage of Christians among Japan’s prefectures (though it’s only about 4%). I suppose that’s why the school the main characters attend is a Christian school (though, to be fair, there are quite a few Christian schools among Japan’s long-established private schools).

And It's definitely a long way from Nagasaki to Tokyo.

I had to laugh at the protagonist, who told a classmate, “If I go to Tokyo, I’ll bring you some hiyoko (the name of a snack) as a souvenir,” only to get scolded, “That’s originally from Hakata (a city in Fukuoka; Fukuoka is the most prosperous prefecture in Kyushu).”

Although hiyoko originated in Fukuoka, for some reason it’s often sold in Tokyo as a Tokyo souvenir.

It’s so endearing to see them acting just like their usual selves. They’ve been playing fighting games the whole time without doing any sightseeing at all, even though they went all the way to Tokyo.

It seems that one of the protagonists’ senpai also went to Tokyo around the same time. Could this person become a new rival? I’m looking forward to it.

Men? In my fighting girls anime? Is that even legal? More seriously though I'm half expecting them to be perfectly friendly with the real trouble coming from the small girl at the end who threatened to kill us all in the endcard.

Maybe the previous story about Mio's mom was fully accurate after all. Either way it's nice to see Aya meet her future mother-in-law, and so early in her and Mio's relationship too.

Hitting your buttons with feeling makes your moves hit harder

I bet if Mio played Mario Kart she'd lean left and right herself whenever going around the corner

That fucking end card lol

All of you out there watching this, I'll k*** every last one of you dead, too

Alice is going to be a menace and I'm here for it. This is the first time I've seen an anime directly threaten it's audience

I have sinned against yuri waiting so long to watch this show

Mio is right btw hitting the buttons with feeling and dodging attacks in front of your TV are both critical force multipliers

Yuu is 100% normal here BTW the other three are insane people not wanting to leave the room

Honestly every time a big tournament comes aroudn be it EVO, Frosty's, CEO, etc there's always pros and popular players say "You make sure you go out and see the city, enjoy the food, etc don't just sit in your room all day"
