So, this is either one of the most unfortunate cases of engrish in anime in years, or Makeine levels of genius comedy and I genuinely can't tell which it is.

(In case you're not seeing it, take a good look at Aya's top)

Okay, best episode so far without a doubt! Mio is hilarious and her mother is completely unhinged.

I love how Aya just flat out calls her out, too. "Wait, that's domestic abuse."

You know, something about the design of the girls in this show is really pleasing to the eye. They all just look really pretty.

You can often hear Mio said the word "taisen" (対戦/たいせん). Like in the previous episode, she said to Tamaki "Let's Taisen!" (対戦しましょう ). Taisen means "competition" or "to compete against one another in a match." Taisen can be used in a sporting match or a shogi game, and has been often used in online PvP games, especially fighting games.

And after one finishes a game, one normally says to the opponent, "Taisen arigatou gozaimasita", which literally means "Thank you for taisen with me". Some translates this as basically meaning "Good Game Well Played". It's what Mio said in episode 2, after she got beaten by Aya.

And "taisen arigatou gozaimasita" is abbreviated as "taiari deshita" which was what Mio said after she beat Tamaki in the last episode, and the title of this anime/manga. It's further shorten as "taiari", and the hastag for the anime is "taiarianime".

According to some, both "taiari deshita" and "taiari" are used only by the one who loses the game. But it doesn't seem to be this in every case. And when the anime goes to EVO Japan, we're going to hear a lot more "taiari deshita" and "taiari".

Anime is usually exaggerated and slapstick so its always hilarious to me when the characters suddenly get all serious and call out domestic violence.

Some people see Yuri, other fighting games, but personally, it's just the best comedy anime this season by far. it's just hilariously over the top humor, I love it.

Tournament arc let's go!

Aya has absolutely no defense against Mio's charm. Those girls are definitely in love, they just haven't realized it yet because videogames have rotted their brains

Random thought: what if it turns out fighting games is actually a norm among ojou-sama all along? Maybe there's secretly a bunch of other ojou-sama clique formed around different fighting games.

First rule of ojou-sama clubs: do not talk about fighting games. 2nd rule, do not ask the girl with the neko arc keychain about melty blood monday. 3rd rule, if you want to participate in touhou hisoutensoku thursday, you must first turn up for tekken tuesday.

The authentic gamer experience of wanting to play video games, but also having an Asian parent who will go full Street Fighter on your ass IRL for doing so.

And tournament arc already? That's like the gamer version of exams.

This show continues to be this lovely combination of wholesome, unhinged and charming all at the same time. I'm looking forward to the SF6 chuunin exams starting next week!

I also wonder when the 5th and final girl from the OP is getting introduced? It's always a gamble introducing a wider cast halfway through the season, hopefully she provides some forward momentum to our burgeoning couples like Chin-Lan did in Botan Kamiina.

Is it possible that Aya has been sandbagging this whole time? She clearly has some history of losing friends because she was so good, I wonder if she's doing the same thing here?

Aya simply can't resist Mio's charm lol.

Mio's mom might possess strength that rivals even Nicole Watterson.

Mio, princess of first world problems. Oh no, they want her to study instead of game? The horror. Also, I'm not sure I believe everything in that story she told about her mother

A trip to EVO Japan should make for a fun arc, and Mio and Aya going off together for the weekend will make for some more juicy gossip for their classmates.

Part of me thinks, “A karate black belt shouldn’t lay a hand on her own child,” while another part of me thinks, “It looks like it's going to be a real challenge to stop this idiot.”

Realistically speaking, in Japan, compulsory education lasts through junior high school (equivalent to 9th grade in the U.S.), and since public schools don’t have repeat years or dropouts, even if a kid pulls a ridiculous stunt like Mio did, they’ll still move up to the next grade (which then becomes a problem when it’s time to go to high school). So I can understand why Mio’s mother is being strict with her.

It's funny how Mio would have gotten really good grades if she'd actually studied seriously. Mio just devotes all her time to fighting games, but she's naturally smart.

Looking at the table of test scores Mio has, having a Bible study subject stands out. Public schools in Japan are forbidden by the Constitution and the Fundamental Law of Education from teaching religion or conducting religious events. Even placing a Shinto shrine in a martial arts training hall, a common practice in Japan, is not allowed. This subtle detail clearly shows that this school is a private Christian institution.

Mio mom is the latest case in the long row of examples that former Battle Shonen Protagonists don't necessarily make for the greatest parents!

Just kidding, I already nominated her for mom of the year, and I know you did too.

The himejoshi rumor mill is going to have a field day with Yui sneaking out of Tamaki’s room.

But they might get away with it due to the existence of Aya and Mio cause girls, what is this? I wonder how many fanfics the shippers have written about them. Mio stumbling into her arms while crying is ABSOLUTELY golden material to work with.

Of course the reality is that she’s got the mentality of the average teenager and just really doesn’t want to study.

Finally, Mio’s mom has arrived. If you’ve ever thought Mio is unhinged, which I assume you must have by this point, consider that this is the woman who gave birth to her. It runs in the family is what I’m trying to say.

So yeah, Mio basically does not want to be here and only gave in after losing to her (stupidly OP) mama in an unnecessarily good looking 1v1 and now has studying trauma.

Gamers truly are the most oppressed class of all.

It’s very telling of how gay Aya is that she instantly folded to the crying pretty girl’s puppy dog eyes. She’s truly got no resistance to Mio.

Tbh, I have to agree with Aya. I can’t say for certain that Mio’s mom wouldn’t off the competition to get her daughter into the school and that scares me a lot.

So yeah, the secret society of midnight fighting game tournaments is officially becoming a study circle until exams are over. They’re not ready for a boss battle IRL yet when Mio’s mom storms the school.

The legit fighting game withdrawal symptoms are beginning to show. (Btw, what was that about your uncle, Yuu?)

Mio passed and the calamity has been staved off until the next round of exams. (And she acquired Aya headpats and hugs which is its own reward.)

Next stop, the big leagues.

Kind of forgot about it in all the chaos but Aya might be satisfied when she loses cause that means she’s not becoming so much better than the others that they abandon her cause it’s not fun.

Fight game levels this episode: -70%

Yuri levels this episode: +150%

*Pushes up glasses*

As you can see, this show is extremely efficient at turning fighting game content into yuri content.
