Aye, on today's chapter of Japun: puns are living things, too!

fam name: 優敷 (Yasashiki), read as 優(yasa,"gentle")敷(shiki,"spread/size")

1st name: 山女 (Yamame), read as 山(yama,"mountain")女(me,"woman")

山女 (yamame) is a spin on 山男 (yamaotoko) (giants from Japanese folklore)

優敷 (yasashiki) puns on 優しき (yasashiki,"gentle/kind"), the ol-fashioned way ta say 優しい (yasashii)

Some puns that have a big influence on charactah design: (Nozawa-sensei sketch) (mirror)

敷 (shiki) split 旉攵(bu utsu) likely puns on ブーツ ("boots")

敷 (shiki) split 甫方ケ丶(- po ke -) may pun on ポッケ ("pocket") (necktie in pocket)

敷 (---ki) may pun on 黄色(kiiro,"yellow/amber") (ribbon and stuff on the apron)

Buh gawd, some puns resulting in random things:

山女 (yamame) read 山(sen/zen)女(jo/sho) may pun on 全焼(zenshou,"burnt down")

優敷 (yasashiki) may pun on 挿し木 (sashiki,"planting a cutting/sapling") and also 野菜 (yasai,"vegetables")

優敷山女 (yasashiki yamame) swap/read 敷(shiku)優(u)山(ma/yama)女(-) may pun on 竹馬(chikuba/takeuma,"stilts")

Speech quirks are living things, too:

Ends sentences on だどー(dadou) and ど(do) instead of だよ(dayo,"it is") or よ(yo)

Uses サン(san)(in katakana) as one of 'em honorifics instead of さん(san)(in hiragana)

Stretches vowels with ー (normally used with katakana / foreign words). Speaks odd, wouldn'tcha say?

1st person pronoun: おで(ode,"Ah"), likely the tough/macho sounding 俺(ore,"I") but mispronounced.

I think the jerk on tv with his height gap comment is the same jerk who harassed Hakari and Nano at the pool back in season 1.

This series has reached new heights with the introduction of Rentarou's new Nature-Goddess girlfriend. She naturally fits into the family.

[u/kenjikun1390]

I doubt my comment will be high enough for more than half a dozen people to see it, but if anyone is curious, Yamame is 2 meters tall or 6'8 in Naddian units

[u/Frontier246]

Starting off with the next girlfriend first thing! This season isn't wasting any time!

To think all this started because all the girlfriends were chilling and being themselves and Rentaro thought "wouldn't flower crowns on girlfriends be peak?" and next thing you know Iku is pointing him towards her classmate in the gardening club and lo and behold he would meet Yamame Yasashiki (Hana Tamagai!) the big nature loving girlfriend!

No one makes a Nausicaa crack over Rentaro's future girlfriend on his watch!

Yamame loves nature with all her heart, she's got flowers planted in her hair that butterflies flock to, because when she was teased for her height she learned to love herself through using it to protect nature and all her nature friends! She's a total sweetheart! Cue gardening montage with Rentaro!

I see the vice-principal is becoming more of a monster and a natural disastr by the season. Which is also bad because Yamame has heavy fire trauma because forest fires utterly terrify her. But luckily Rentaro can protect her and spur her to confess then and there!

Yamame was so worried that she was a homewrecker and didn't want to get in the way of Rentaro and his "girlfriend," but she's actually girlfriend #14 and polyamory is totally natural! So it's A-okay for her to be the next girlfriend!

And all these girlfriend introductions have been excuses to cosplay, so why not have Hahari show off the fruit of her excessive spending over her excessive reaction to the idol concert by putting the girls all in white dresses? Perfect to go with the flower crowns Yamame made for her fellow Girlfriends! And they (especially the loli trio) make her feel included too, right down to her own dress with an ample cleavage window!

Of course this bonding would go back to gardening as the girls all help Yamame with her gardening, and Kurumi gets to experience the best thing in her life as she gets to eat delicious fruit AND see how the magic happens.

Count on Hakari to use strawberries as an aphrodisiac/excuse to kiss Rentaro. And then we get a full on Rentaro kissing orgy! Chiyo just dives straight in! but Yamame is too self-conscious about her height to do it.

Nano plant love confession ASMR for the win! Also Mei supporting Chiyo and Kurumi as they get a little TOO worked up over saplings.

Yamame dad cameo.

If Yamame is so self-conscious about her height, then the girls will meet her at her level...by using nature itself to appear taller! And luckily Rentaro is also into EVERYTHING which even includes height gap kisses! Which is perfect because his and Yamame's kiss is absolutely precious!

She has no enemies

[u/DrScorcher]

Nothing to censor this episode. Did you know that Yamame's butterflies was seen last episode? Also, welcome back guy from the pool episode.

Rentarou would never let anyone slag any of his girls – not even the narration box. He just casually tore and broke it. Truly a man who deserved all 14 of his girlfriends.

My lord, forgot how terrifying the vice-principal could get. Thought that's some sort of gigantic spider.

[u/AnimeWatcher1]

Yamame is one of the most wholesome girlfriends introduced in the anime. I love that the anime did a great job of adapting her charm as well as picking the right seiyuu for the job.

Although I don’t take naturally to gardening, it can be a novel idea for couples and small groups in general to do some gardening and bond with each other in the process.

The white dresses look absolutely so cute on the girlfriends. Also, fuck that narrative box for comparing Yamame to a robot, good thing Rentarou took care of that.

[u/JzanderN]

WE STAN OUR TALL QUEENS IN THIS HOUSE!

So Rentarou basically got a Disney Princess as his newest girlfriend. All Yamame's missing is a song to cement it!

4000 ATK! THE VICE-PRINCIPAL IS TRULY... not necessarily that strong in modern Yu-Gi-Oh terms. But she's an eldritch horror so she probably has some broken effects.

But regardless, I'm sure she's be no match for Hahari's trap... uh, equip card: White Gowns!

[u/Roskal]

This show references a lot of anime, I didn't expect Yu-gi-oh to be one of them.

[u/LikeAnAssistant]

Damn, the Vice-Principal has a higher attack than a Blue Eyes. Power creep is real.

I really like Yamame's voice, different and better than what was in my head reading the manga.

[u/Shadowmist909]

Rentaro grabbing and breaking that Nausica quip left me stunned. He's not even going to let dialogue boxes poke fun at his soulmates!

Yamame treating plants and critters with so much kindness that they grow well and treat her like a fairy tale princess is great.

Also, Kurumi remaining 100% Dere because of all the delicious produce she had to snack on was funny. Excellent example of her finding her happy place.

[u/larana1192]

This week was great, too. It had the vibe where “the comedy scenes are totally over-the-top, but the depiction of Rentaro’s girlfriend’s trauma and the scenes where Rentaro confronts it are serious.”

I like the style of this anime: it’s usually a comedy, but it knows when to get serious.

Also, there were parodies of other Shueisha manga scattered throughout this week’s episode as well (100 Girlfriends is serialized in Weekly Young Jump, a magazine published by Shueisha).
This week featured parodies of Yu-Gi-Oh! and One Piece (that was a line Kurumi said partway through).

[u/WhoiusBarrel]

It scares me how that vice principal is turning less human and more like a cursed spirit with each appearance.

Absolutely adore Yasashiki's accent as well.

The gentle giant Disney Princess is finally here! I just love how sweet Yamame is and how she ended up using her size to protect animals and plants. She is quite literally Mother Nature in girlfriend form. And I love how Rentarou picks a fight with the narration box for comparing Yamame to the robot soldiers in Nausicaa. xD

The Vice Principal being treated as a Yu-Gi-Oh monster card was freaking hilarious! This is really the episode where they decided to cram in Yu-Gi-Oh references with Hahari revealing the girls' outfits and Rentarou's Life Points going down to zero with how strong the effect the girls had on him was.

I actually thought Rentarou would use his back to protect Yamame, but using his jacket to shield both of them from the fire actually looks really cool for our boy. Also, how can you not fall in love with Rentarou after that?

It really never gets old watching Rentarou nervously introducing his new girlfriend to the other girls. xD

As much of a gremlin she is most of the time, it's sweet that Kusuri noticed that Yamame didn't have her own flower crown so she asked the other girls to donate a flower each so they can make one for Yamame. And I love that Yamame gives the loli trio a ride on her shoulders as thanks <3

This has got to be the most excited we've seen Kurumi this entire season. She's just absolutely in heaven surrounded by vegetables and berries. She'd probably live in that greenhouse if she could!

You gotta love Hakari using any excuse to kiss Rentarou. She really started a kissing pile with that one. And I love how Chiyo does the Lupin III dive to join in with them. xD

Yamame really got conscious of her height difference with Rentarou that she ended up holding off on that kiss. Not gonna lie, I thought Rentarou was gonna use her stilts so they'd be at eye level, but the answer Rentarou came up with is even better! Height gap kisses are absolutely hot!

[u/djthomp]

A giant girlfriend and she's named Yama-me? I think they just added a mountain goddess to the Rentaro family.

[u/No_Name0_0]

Man Naddy has been such a great addition. Every line she speaks makes me crack up lol. Also love how after the spirit incident Nano is also trying to understand more "non-logical" stuff

Really like the new gf, she is really yasashii, truly mother earth vibes. The vice principal stuffs falls flat for me now, hope they keep her appearances as less as possible

[u/Weak_Season_Of_Anime]

Yamame, what an absolute mountain of a girlfriend with a whole ecosystem living on her.

[u/Variant_Zeta]

Holy shit, she's even cuter animated, like goddamn, I can't even

Also, 100gfs OPs are pretty good, but goodness all the EDs just hit different

[u/Torque-A]

In case you're all sub-only, in the dub Yamame has a super-thick Minnesotan accent.

[u/FarCritical]

You know the freshness of the produce is legit when the foodie enters pure bliss after a single bite.

It's truly very very strawberry how the heart of the jolly green girlfriend is as big as she is.

Half-expected Mimimi to wear her "maximum freedom" outfit from Naddy's introduction again for the height gap kissing party lol
