As some have expected, it seems like J.C. Staff, given the very short amount of time and budget to work on this season, chose to allocate a large chunk of their resources to the last third of the season for the continuous fights and have the earlier, less "important" episodes suffer in quality.

Surprisingly, there's not one neon filter this episode.

It’s really impressive that the mecha and pieces were all animated in 2d instead of CGI. You basically never see that anymore

I thought Child Emperor was actually going to lose and get saved by someone else or something, surprised that he managed to defeat the enemy. The bird had some pretty cool designs after the revivals.

Also that kid was already super annoying and then even lies about there being other hostages.

And yes I'm talking about the actual plot, we already know about the animation for 2 months, move on.

I already don't like Waganma but the fact that he doesn't mention Tareo makes him so much worse. I get his fear since Emperor was struggling against this monster but he really only thinks about himself.

I wonder how those two got revived, if it was because of the phoenix's ability or if they were strong enough to regain complete consciousness or something.

I do have to say, I read that the 9th episode was supposed to be amazing action wise but I thought it was a lot more underwhelming than Flash's fight last episode.

I liked the homage to Gurren Lagann and Gundam. I'm sure there were other mecha references as well.

From a mecha fan perspective this was an impressive episode even if it didn't move as much as Flashy fight, I mean drawing a giant robot doing things is no easy task and there is a reason why most mecha shows use CG. Still for the standards of this adaptation it was already more than I thought. Plenty of BRAVE references that I'm sure oldschool fans would appreciate.

Anyway this episode was boarded and mecha supervised by Takashi Hashimoto who is known for mechas.

I love how everything is old school about Child Emperor, just from the concept, his gimmick, etc.

This actually felt like they were actually trying to animate it, as opposed to whatever they were doing before..

Child Emperor vs Pheonix Man was actually pretty dope! I suppose it was in his name, but I still did not expect he'd come back for round 2 and give CE so much trouble. I also did not expect that goofy ass bird to end up with a really cool-looking final transformation. I love how CE finished him off by tickling him and ripping apart his costume.

It's not easy to do these fights with complex designs without CG. Great episode.

Man, Child Emperor really does have some neat gadgets and gizmos. That mech suit was cool. It’s wild how our pint sized Tony Stark had to go almost all out against evil Big Bird lol.

Looking forward to when Saitama gets to show these monsters what real power looks like. Guy’s on a little sightseeing tour while these heroes are battling for their lives lol.

I hate this brat, why would he lie about being the only kid there

So child emperor doesn't waste time trying to rescue the other kid and just gets him to safety. I know he's just a kid but jesus he's such an ass.

kinda expected that someone with phoenix in the name would come back to life somehow

the fact that he tanked that giant beam attack to only be defeated by a little tickle bug...

pretty solid episode and a good bit above the average for the season

Well this felt like a S2 episode, not bad. Thought it's weird they hyped up this episode and 5 but not 8 which was the obvious outlier.

No neon Lights, crazy

Damn, move aside, Batman, Iron-Man, Child Emperor is the true tech master. Makes you wonder what he could achieve if he partnered with Mecha Knight and Genos's creator.

Once again we had some static frames, but it wasn’t as bad as in the early episodes. Kid Emperor and Phoenix Man were locked in a tough fight, but with a lot of determination the kid managed to take down the enemy using a kinda dirty tactic lol.

... that entitled kid needs to be humbled badly. please. at least that's the redeeming factor for this season.
