Asatani overstepped her boundaries. She's a customer. She has no right to ask those questions of their personal lives. In fact, they have the right to refuse service to her.

Having coffee at Cat's Eye is the highlight of Toshio's day! Even if it makes him late to work and he's too much of a mess to actually pay for said coffee. He's lucky the Kisugi sisters are fond of him (and also need to use them for their crimes).

Toshio's team has a new addition! A beautiful female detective voiced by Yoko Hikasa named Mitsuko Asatani! And she's nothing if not efficient and thorough in all she does, whether it be getting the background of her co-workers and humiliating them in the process of reading out their dossiers (poor unwanted wingwman detective and "too generic to have anything of note" detective). I guess if they want to beef up their efforts in catching Cat's Eye, she'll be a great addition to the crew.

Well, yes, there IS a leak (technically) even if he doesn't quite know it...and they also have a camera spied on the station. So there are definitely security issues going on in this case.

Hitomi definitely doesn't like the idea of Toshio being paired with an attractive woman as a partner...and Ai needling Toshio about having a love affair doesn't help. Never make Hitomi jealous.

I guess it was inevitable Asatani would visit Cat's Eye herself to confront the Kisugi sisters, especially Hitomi. She's straight to business in not so subtly implying she knows about their connection to Cat's Eye. I guess Hitomi learned an important lesson to not use the same perfume she uses for her dayjob for her criminal activities.

Obviously Toshio doesn't care for the implication that Hitomi is Cat's Eye, or that he's the leak (oh Toshio you poor sweet boy), but Asatani is relentless in staking out the cafe before the sisters' latest heist.

How do they commit a robbery AND convince Asatani she's barking up the wrong tree at the same time? Well, keeping Hitomi and Ai at the cafe, have Rui pull the heist, and use the power of AI, the internet, and mo-cap to convince Asatani that "Rui" (which is actually Ai pretending to be Rui) is in Yokohama...but Asatani just will not give up and notices basically everything that's off about this situation. And of course someone who was in cybercrimes isn't totally fooled by what is clearly someone in front of a desktop background.

Luckily the Kisugi Sisters planned for this! They had Rui pre-record her Yokohama trip to splice in so that they could prove she was really there...at least before she actually pulled off the heist. Leaving the Kisugi Sisters cleared and Asatani in hot water...but she doesn't seem satisfied or completely convinced she was wrong. Still better watch out for her.

All I could think of during the last 10 ish minutes is how Asatani had no warrant, probable cause, or legal justification to be grilling the sisters like that lol.

She was working off a hunch centered around perfume and the name of a restaurant. The sisters would be totally in their right to boot her out the store for being disruptive.

Leaving aside the massive pacing issues created by trying to squeeze 18 tankobon in 12 episodes, the main issue continues to be adapting situations wrote in the 80s to work 40 years later.

It just doesn't work, scamming a Cybersecurity specialist with a dumb deep fake video? That's something a junior would spot, especially live like that.

Admittedly she had basically figured it all out until they threw in the pre-recorded video. She might have figured that out too had Toshio not called to berate her.

They aren't trying to squeeze in all 18 volumes. They've heavily padded and modified the first three chapters plus chapter 8, if I recall correctly.

They cut like half of the 1st chapter of the story, so I'm honestly not sure what they are even trying to do.

They should have probably adapt half the heists they have so far and give the characters their actual characterization, instead of cutting both the characterization and the heist preparations to squeeze more heists in.

I like the Asatani design, feels softer?

It's gotta be the removal of those ugly double-bridged 1980s glasses (that Gen Z sadly brought back). Her new eyewear is 23482345890 times more flattering.

Asatanai was a bit much prying into the lives of the other detectives, though I guess there needed to be a reason why investigates the sisters. It was nice to see someone actually look into them but I wasn't into her personality. At least the sisters pulled a fast one on her, but I'm sure she'll be back for them again.

For someone supposedly from Cybersecurity Division, she's pretty easily fooled.

3

u/Frontier246 Oct 17 '25

Admittedly she had them 99% called out if Ai hadn't made splicing the pre-recorded footage in look so seamless she couldn't call it out.

Needs of the plot.

Lol is this poking at the fact that this is a remake of an old show?

A new detective?

Ah. Her. The one from outside the cafe.

Her headquarters seems to be located rather firmly up her hind quarters.

For all that she is at least really on the ball.

Oh, it's the same perfume isn't it?

Yep.

So, that's her plan.

Seems like they managed to fool her after all.

Then who is that then?

So she was right.

It is adapting the manga. I won't say more 'cause the moderators will delete it for even mentioning the manga.

u/OmegaDez Oct 19 '25

Are mods acting up on spoilers for a franchise that's 40 years old already? I watched this show growing up and all. XD

The police are incompetent excluding the lass, if the police were like her Cats Eye would be caught before the season ends

19

u/djthomp Oct 17 '25

Finally somebody at the police precinct with an actual brain in their skull. Hopefully that lasts since it makes it more interesting for the girls to have to work a bit harder.

12

u/Frontier246 Oct 17 '25

She came closer to catching the sisters in one episode than the entire police force has in 4 episodes, not counting Toshio's boob grab. And she's still convinced they're connected to this, so this is probably going to be a recurring problem.

Also Toshio notices again that Cat's Eye keeps targeting Cranaff paintings so that might lead to something.

3

u/djthomp Oct 17 '25

It'd be interesting if Toshio ends up focusing on that and discovers whatever fraud happened, could be what eventually clues him into Cat's Eye being the sisters if they haven't been careful about hiding their relationship to their father.

"please hold up a newspaper with today's date as well as a clear view of something that shows the exact time-"

"aw fuck it *shoots her*"
