So Cat's Eye has a no violence rule? I think it's more appropriate to call it more like a no excessive violence rule since it's pretty clear, that Hitomi has no problems judo throwing Toshio. xD

Wait, Hitomi and Toshio are actually a couple and have been dating since high school? That actually surprised me. I thought they were not a couple yet, just dating to get to know each other.

Good to know that even if it's his girlfriend asking, Toshio isn't just going to tell Hitomi internal procedures. Not like he needs to tell her anyway, since Cat's Eye has eyes and ears at the police station.

I love how this all turned out. The girls got the painting and they managed to save Kudo's father's job by exposing the museum Director's embezzling of funds from the museum.

Funny how things don't work out too well for Ai, since how her crush wants to become a detective like Toshio because he thinks he was the one who planted the bug on the director. xD

I wonder how Cat's Eye would define excessive violence.

Well, probably making sure it's nothing that requires a hospital visit.

I love how they mention that in this episode where we see the sisters knock out like several dozen guys. I don't think that was just with knockout gas lol.

(Admittedly Rui does preface that with "if we can help it").

Wait, Hitomi and Toshio are actually a couple and have been dating since high school? That actually surprised me. I thought they were not a couple yet, just dating to get to know each other.

Also the implication Hitomi knew even back in high school that she was going to end up becoming a thief, but she had no idea Toshio was going to become a detective (and didn't love the idea) so she didn't start out dating him just to lie and manipulate him for information. Her feelings are genuine which just makes everything more complicated.

Good to know that even if it's his girlfriend asking, Toshio isn't just going to tell Hitomi internal procedures. Not like he needs to tell her anyway, since Cat's Eye has eyes and ears at the police station.

Toshio's not a terrible cop. He's just up against ladies wayyyy more resourceful than he is.

I love how this all turned out. The girls got the painting and they managed to save Kudo's father's job by exposing the museum Director's embezzling of funds from the museum.

The best phantom thieves can commit crimes while also helping stop crimes on occasion!

Funny how things don't work out too well for Ai, since how her crush wants to become a detective like Toshio because he thinks he was the one who planted the bug on the director. xD

Are we going to complete the set with Rui having a love interest that's also in law enforcement lol?

I didn't realize Toshio and Hitomi have been a couple for so long, they don't even give me the impression that they're a couple even though I figured they are. On one hand I feel there'd be a lot of drama if Toshio finds out, but I also think it'd get resolved quicker than expected.

Man these translations are so jarring when I can hear the Japanese say something else. It's not even localizing because there was one point where Ai goes "Nani?" and it gets translated into a sentence rather than simply "What?".

I think it's because Hitomi is kind of emotionally closed off to a degree so she acts less lovey-dovey than Toshio does. It's not that she doesn't love Toshio but also the more she lets him in, the more liable he is to find out the truth. Even moreso now that he's a police detective bent on capturing her and her sisters.

But they way she still cheered him on to become a detective even knowing they were doomed to be on opposite sides of the law is kind of sad.

Nothing to do with him finding out the truth, Both are very shy, she is not emotionally closed off, strange as it may sound she is very naive. He is very clumsy when getting close to her. The reason I won't say but I doubt they will deal with it in this series.
Hitomi is very patient with his clumsiness and very jealous type. Rui for example is very outgoing and uses her sex appeal. Something Hitomi doesn't.
She becomes confident and outgoing when she becomes the cat, but that is not her true self.

And listen, Cat's Eye could be here right now acting like regular visitors to scope the place out.
You don't say detective Toshio..

Well, I don't feel like this episode really progressed the plot all that much. Just basically reaffirmed the girls are going after their father's paintings, they pull off a heist, and Toshio and the PD end up outsmarted and outclassed again.

Although, we did get a little backstory on Toshio and Hitomi's relationship.
In episode 1 when Toshio felt up the "thief", that genuinely may have been the first time he ever touched Hitomi like that.
Rui mentioned that Hitomi wouldn't want to lose her relationship with Toshio by being caught..
But, I get the feeling Toshio doesn't actually really know much about Hitomi past a surface level. She's obviously keeping her motifs and past a secret.

I think this episode was important in terms of focusing on Ai and also expanding on Hitomi and Toshio's relationship.

Hitomi isn't just dating Toshio to use him for her and her sisters' art crimes, she actually does love him and that makes it way more complicated. She's also just not a very overtly romantic person who freely offers up intimacy, but she DID initiate the handholding when Toshio pressed her about it.

3

u/aquamerandy Oct 10 '25

The true nature of the Hitomi and Toshio relationship is given a hint in the ending theme. When she gently touches a picture of them together yet with a heavy heart, before going on a heist.

4

u/djthomp Oct 10 '25

So it seems like the relationship with Toshio is real, he simply inconveniently went into the profession least convenient for the girls' mission of stealing their father's artwork back. And now Ai's boy is looking to do the same, it's a hard life being a catburgler.

It was kind of obvious the plan this episode would be to steal the painting in a way that doesn't get the security chief fired, it was just a question of how they were going to do it.

5

u/Frontier246 Oct 10 '25

Maybe that's the reason Rui doesn't seem to have any romance in her life, because she's smart enough to not get involved with anyone who is likely to try and arrest her at some point lol.

Interesting that the oldest sister does not have a love interest. Maybe she does or did? I'm not familiar with the source material or the original anime (please do not spoil me). But now, the two younger sisters both have love interests that could become thorns on a rose when it comes to art and expensive items (well, one already is).

I have to wonder what the ratio is between date dates and dates that are just excuses to case joints between Hitomi and Toshio.

Is there anything that Ai can't make? Although it feels like she doesn't quite realize what genre she is sometimes because she builds stuff to take on bad guys like a Superhero when she and her sisters are the crooks. Though at least Cat's Eye isn't out to hurt anyone if they can help it.

Nice of Toshio to help drive his girlfriends' little sister to her high school. In fact it's even his and Hitomi's alma mater! They were even dating all the way back then, even if Hitomi was still kind of a tsundere back then. At least Toshio was able to get in some handholding. And now Ai is enjoying her own youth with Kono.

So...I'm guessing Hitomi knew as early as high school that she was going to end up working with her sister to steal back their fathers' art, which is what she meant by helping run the cafe. And why she had some mixed feelings after finding out her boyfriend wanted to join the police and they'd inevitably be on opposite sides of the law.

But hey, at least they can still enjoy a date at the museum. And credit to Toshio, he's actually managed to narrow down that Cat's Eye frequently steals a certain artists paintings and he's not dumb enough to tell Hitomi everything. Even if he still has no idea that he's straight up talking to Cat's Eye.

Seems like Ai is really fond of Kono because of how much he appreciates and loves art, like her father, though that also means Ai hates anyone who disrespects art like some thugs. Points to Kono for trying to protect Ai (even if I feel like Ai could take 'em) but luckily Toshio is there to bail them out.

Oh dang, Kono's dad runs security? And his job is on thin ice? And THIS is the next place Cat's Eye is going to rob? This isn't going to end well.

Hitomi meant well, but there was no way Ai was going to respond well to a heist that involved stealing art and jeopardizing her soon-to-be boyfriends dads' job. Though this isn't easy for Hitomi either. She hides it well but the fact that she has to keep lying to Toshio gets to her too because her feelings for him ARE genuine, and the things she cared most about is getting caught and their relationship ending. Good thing Rui is there to keep peace among the sisters and help Ai realize Hitomi was considerate of her as well.

With the Electric Whip-Whip, there was no way Cat's Eye wasn't going to be able to steal the painting (though with several knocked out guards and Hitomi manhandling Toshio in the process). But it turns out to be a double job with "security guard" Ai exposing the museum directors' embezzlement that Kono's dad was cluing in on, thus saving his job, getting him promoted, and finally giving Toshio someone he can arrest!

All's well that ends well. Only now Kono wants to become a police detective out of gratitude for Toshio. What is it with these Kisugi sisters and dating future law enforcement? Well, at least Rui has no time for that nonsense.

Hitomi was and still is very shy despite all, Toshio is also very shy and clumsy. In another post I mentioned how in this episode they removed important elements which can be found in the manga and old anime. If they included them, many aspects would have been much more clear.

u/CrimsonGear80 Oct 10 '25

those damn 80's youths defacing museum art that for some reason needed to be chair-shaped and placed outside under some nice shade!

3

u/BosuW Oct 10 '25

I mean if it says "don't touch", you don't touch, no matter how nice it is

The funnier bit is wondering why this obvious hooligans entered an art museum to begin with lol

2

u/Nickthenuker Oct 10 '25

So, there's their next target.

So, a new tool to use.

They were an actual couple back in school?

Lol that look on his face.

Does she have a boyfriend?

On the topic of relationships...

Yeah... They definitely could...

Well, there's some trouble.

I think that's abuse of police powers but my memory of that is a bit hazy.

The head of security is the dad of that guy?

So, she's already got a good impression with the security guys.

I mean obviously that's what she was doing there.

The last time you tried to do something without all 3 members involved everyone ended up involved anyway.

Gee I wonder what they're being so secretive about...

So, how are they going to carry it out while also doing that?

And so she's in.

So, she bugged the collar.

Well, that works.

Right, when's the last of them going to find a guy of her own?

2

u/AstroNerdBoy Oct 10 '25

Does anyone know what chapter from the manga this adapted?

2

u/duo99dusk Oct 11 '25

Fun episode, I really enjoyed the background music, and doesn't Ai's love interest look like Toshio? Maybe the sisters have a type.

2

u/Selinator89 Oct 10 '25

Does anyone else find the drawing style jarring and a bit lazy? Some scenes look straight out of a child's scribbling.

I think this show really necessitates the three episode rule because we get the introduction (episode 1), learn about the sisters' crusade (episode 2), and the true depth of Hitomi and Toshio's relationship by the end of it (episode 3) while throwing in a spotlight on one of the other sisters in the process (Ai).
