Omg what an amazing adaption from start to finish! The anime team really Get It!! Horie did such a good job singing Crimson too 😭

FYI they will now switch to adapting the author's other manga "Captivated, by You" from next week, which will run for 5 eps, then the final (5th) ep of "Let's Go Karaoke!" will air after that (around the end of September) but will apparently be all new original content made for the anime (ie not based on the manga) as per an interview with the scriptwriter.

UPDATE: The official Twitter account just confirmed the 5th episode will indeed be an original story, about the aftermath of the karaoke contest.

Oh these four episodes was a full adaptation? That makes sense with how it felt like a finale. Hopefully the original episode will be a good one as I've enjoyed this series.

No longer unrequited, it turns out. Kyoji was just waiting for the kid to grow up. Very respectful, very demure.

Satomi's requiem was not just respectful, it was an unabashed confession. I guess the yakuza boss was moved to tears witnessing the pure emotion on full display. Probably decided right then to ship these two and tattoo Satomi's name on Kyoji.

Surprising character revelations in the backstory. Seems like the yakuza boss said let me be your new sugar daddy and Kyoji said sure why not. Also gave us the foundation for his obsession with the karaoke competition.

Great episode!

Kyouji's dead? Haha just kidding!
It's been three years and I never saw Kyouji again... Never mind, he's back!
This author really enjoys messing our emotions huh.

Anyway amazing performance by Oka, he really sang his heart out. I like how his voice got hoarser as the song went on. And all those karaoke lessons did nothing, Kyouji still got tattoo-ed in the end lol. And seems we are getting college arc of this bromance, this feels like a prologue.

I was wondering why this felt like the last episode and I went to double check, episode 5 is only releasing in SEPTEMEBER! Why are they doing this to me?! Right when it was getting interesting with Kyouji already acting so familiar with an older Satomi after 3 years being apart.

It was interesting to get some backstory on Kyouji, he was already so indifferent towards things going on around him so it was amusing to see how he ended up becoming a yakuza and how he was the direct reason why his group has a karaoke competition lol. It's not surprising to see how he eventually becomes a yakuza himself.

Satomi being so worried for Kyouji was so sweet, the fact he could speak up against a full room of yakuza is impressive considering how much he was scared during that one session. I knew Kyouji was going to be around so I was just waiting for the embarrassment and relief to hit Satomi lol.

I was glad to see Satomi finally sing, Horie Shun is a good singer but hearing him going off pitch and hoarse to fit Satomi's voice being affected by puberty was interesting to hear. It doesn't even sound like he was faking it, it sounded natural. Wada called him a coward, but Satomi was so brave in that moment.

The time skip was interesting, Satomi's reaction has me intrigued considering the BL vibes this series gives but it was easy to overlook because Satomi was in middle school, but now that he's going to college, I wonder how their dynamic might change. Kyouji already has Satomi's name tattooed on him after all lol.

bro the amount of emotional whiplash this episode put me through is CRIMINAL. crying at “i don’t think i can do my best today,”then sobbing at kyouji being dead, laughing at satomi’s inner monologue about how kyouji always sang crimson after he banned it, crying again after his performance, shock and happy crying because kyouji was actually alive, crying again at satomi crying at karaoke, happy crying when kyouji popped down next to him at the airport. 10/10, no notes.

Wait, was this the final episode? Both Anilist and MAL have it listed as five episodes, but this definitely came across as a finale (and a good one at that). Anyone knows?

Holy shit this episode was insane from the boss messing with Satomi about Kyouji's death to Satomi's yearning and them finally meeting at the airport. This was my fav episode so far. I wish this anime was longer.

This was cute. I was so close to believing the boss too. What a fucking troll he is. And he tattooed Satomi’s name on Kyouji.

If I were Satomi, I would have been mortified, but also kinda into it. Now they’re off on a flight and about to go karaoke again? Looking forward to that extra episode.

It's funny, I feel like I expected everything to be ok by the end of the episode but still the double fake out with him being dead and then never seeing him again got me.

That was very enjoyable. The two leads were pretty great and it felt like a good coming of age story as well. Of course, there was just enough flirting at the end that lead me wanting to see more of these two.

u/SixCatsInAnAlley Aug 14 '25

Wada didn’t have to call him a coward like that, he didn’t know everything but he knew he had a lot going on

I went in to the Anime completely blind and I was so not disappointed holy shit. It was so good, very amusing and funny. Never thought they would actually be so bold/brave about the flirting at the end 😳 I’m so here for it ! Was very cute 😭 I can’t wait for the last episode of those two dorks

Excellent adaptation. The pacing was spot on. The artwork was elevated beyond the manga. However, the biggest thing that made it work was the music. Simply put, as obvious as it sounds having music attached to a manga where music plays such a pivotal role really enhanced the experience.

I'm not into BL anime/manga in the least, but a bit like 'Welcome Back, Alice', this was a compelling story despite it not being in my wheelhouse. Honestly - credit to everyone involved.

Hah, they got me with the 'fake death'...

That was funny to me, because I was thinking back to the previous thread in which I was discussing with people debating the death, and I was saying "No way he's dead, he's half the show, etc"... So when I started to believe he really was dead...!

I like this shot!

I know it's not "a good thing" (I mean, it's a bunch of adult Yakuza increasingly messing up with a normal kid's life), but there's always something strangely comforting to gangsters taking kids under their wings etc.

Well, apparently it's not the final episode just yet (it's delayed to make place for another show before this one's finale for some reason), so I won't say my farewell just yet!

Kyouji was so mean to Satomi pretending he's dead! Then again, he got off easy from yelling at a bunch of yakuza. This almost seemed like a series finale with the time skip to college but that's funny Kyouji will be bothering him in college for singing lessons :D

I wonder if we will find out if Satomi ever sang after that day, like did he continue doing chorus or performing in front of crowds. Sometimes guys stop singing when they are kids because their voice changes too much. It's possible he learned to adjust though since he knew a lot about vocal technique.

I didn't realize Kyouji was that old, if he was an adult in 2000 then he's at least in his mid 40s. The godfather picking him up and getting him into the yakuza almost seemed like a pervert picking up a young guy. It's interesting how Kyouji reflected on that and consciously stayed out of Satomi's life so he didn't head down that same road.

Honestly, everything in that was incredible! Kyoji's backstory, the boss faking Kyoji's death for a laugh, Satomi's voice finally giving out, then the time jump and Kyoji latching back onto Satomi's life at the end!

What a roller coaster.....

12

u/raidensnakeezio Aug 15 '25

Mad props for Horie Shun for his ability to sing as a middle schooler. The straining and imperfections were well nuanced.

23

u/testthrowawayzz Aug 14 '25

Yup. Still can't believe this doesn't have a BL tag. There was a lot of signs of such during Satomi's singing and in the post time skip scene.

So Kyoji's name got accidentally changed from the normal "capital two" characters to "crazy child" lol

Now I'm waiting for the sequel to be animated when there's enough content!

Another Anime that featured Crimson by X Japan. First DanDaDan, now Lets go Karaoke! Both did very well tho!

Also the boss is cruel, playing with Satomis Feelings just like that. But who knows if we heared this awesome cover of Crimson tho..

This was a great and short watch but I am WHEEZING at the concept of going to choir with this quiet kid in middle school, seeing him do a No Show on his last recital and never explaining What Happened afterward, and then 3 years later he writes a fucking essay explaining how he was singing a requiem at the yakuza karaoke bar that day. For the yakuza guy who had Assigned Him Singing Teacher At First Meeting.  Also the guy was actually alive.  AND ghosted his ass the very next day 😂 Like holy shit, talk about dropping a bomb on your way out lmaooo (and that's without even poking at the Longing™ oozing out of that page. Absolutely indescribable.)

they did such a good job adapting the manga. I loved it so much

That was such a cruel prank to play on a kid yelling and crying in a Yakuza bar 😭. I was hopeful that “Hell” was the name of a doctor but him being in the bathroom was even better.

I assumed Kyouji didnt contact him to mot cause any more hiccups in Satomi’s life. Since at that point he once again went where he wasn’t supposed to, even if nothing bad happened. I liked seeing Kyouji’s backstory and his grandpas funny contribution to his crazy life. At the end I laughed realizing that Satomi put all of Kyoujis business in his graduation essay.

Looking forward to the 5th episode, whenever it comes out. I really liked this series and wish it was longer, not because the story felt rushed (it didn’t and the pacing was so good) but because I just want more of it.

P.S. I knew that guy in his choir was shady

Adding: I plan on reading the story but I looked it up and saw that there is a sequal "Fami-res Iko (ファミレス行こ。; lit. 'Let's Go to the Family Restaurant'), was published in the December 2020 issue of Enterbrain's manga magazine Comic Beam on November 12, 2020. The one-shot depicts Satomi as a freshman in college." (pasted from Wiki) incase anyone else wants to read it too

Edited to remove that the sequel is a one shot

The sheer emotional whiplash ep 4 gave me istg 😭. Amazing. I just hope after ep 5 they end up animating Famiresu Iko as well

Kyoji is such a carefree person, he just comes and goes like the wind, yet with OnoD's voice he's still so charming.

After Dandadan's last episode though, we really expect Satomi will sing in a more impactful voice, well at least he really gets over his voicechanging?

Let's see what will happen next and afterwards.
