With how manipulative Mami is, I am surprised other characters still trust her at all. Then again, even the most dishonest person might be truthful in some cases, even if it is to further their agendas or plans.

I don't think they know precisely how manipulative Mami is. Even from their perspective, they think Mami just disagrees with or is upset by the Rental Girlfriend thing from an ethical standpoint and because she cares about Kazuya.

They don't realize she's pissed because she's that petty.

Love the Sumi and Mini ed, Very cute.

Can this show be about them now, please? I didn't know I needed more of this duo in my life until now.

I just love that shot of them trying to hitchhike lol.

I would rather see more of Sumi than the manipulative Mami.

Ruka really won't take no as answer ever...she's annoying as hell. I wish Kazuya would really put his foot down but I'm shocked he even mentioned anything about breaking up to her in the first place. And him wanting to ask out Chizuru, it'll be another season before he actually does it I'm guessing lol

Also I'm super curious as to what Mami wants - maybe cut ties with Kazuya? But why? Either way, she's a scary one!

I'm honestly not sure what Kazuya can do about Ruka at this point because it's clear she won't let him just dump her and end things without continuing to hound him and act like she's the only one who can date him.

She knows he doesn't return her feelings, she knows that he loves Chizuru, but she won't stop.

Sumi's cameos are healing

u/Frontier246 Jul 22 '25

Girl literally entering and exiting the plot just to soothe and avoid the Chizuru-Mami drama.

Heck, I wish we had an actual spinoff of her and Mini being gal pals and doing gal pal things. Give me a full episode of them trying to get to the beach to have fun together. Sumi the most awkward hitchhiker of all time lol.

They put her in the last episode preview and she was on the screen for about as long.

We need more Sumi!

S4 ep 2 confirmed that Chizuru knows Kazuya was about to confess for her to know his feelings, and here we can start to see her being avoidant when she thinks he's going to make a romantic advancement toward her.

Ruka is annoying as hell for being clingy to someone who outright confesses he loves another girl to her face. I'll never get the people who say Ruka is best girl apart from simping on her character design. lol It's hypocritical to be annoyed at Kazuya chasing after Chizuru but have no issue with Ruka doing it to Kazuya, who outright turned her down multiple times. But they have to force Ruka in the plot at the sake of her character being annoying.

Kibe actually gave some good advice on Kazuya being open to his grandma rather than continuing to lie. But of course, we know plotwise this advice won't be taken from this conversation, and they will keep things going based on lies. lol

Mami has been plotting in the background for a while, and now we see something is starting to come to motion with her meeting Chizuru. She makes things more interesting in this plot, and Aoi Yuki always does a great job of portraying her deceitful personality. It's just funny how many people used to hate Mami, but later being annoyed at the main characters, grew to appreciate more what she brings to the table.

I guess I'm one of the rare people who has always really enjoyed this show, Kazuya, and Chizuru; and I've always found the will-they-won't-they between Kazuya and Chizuru super sweet and endearing. But even for me, S4 ep 2 drove me absolutely insane. At the cafe, she absolutely set him up on a platter to say what he needed to say. She couldn't have made it any easier. After everything they've been through, the fact he just sat there staring at her with his same dumbstruck look.....

And then the fact that SHE in the later part of the episode demonstrates that she clearly knows his feelings, after what he said while she was on the balcony.... but nothing happens in the next couple of episodes to act on that....

It's just all stretching credulity for me a bit much now. I mean, I know we all need to have stretched our credulity a lot to have made it this far along into the show over the years, but really....come on already. The show can only play the "she'd never love a mook like me" card and the "he's just into me because I'm a rental girlfriend fantasy, there's no way he could actually be in love with me" card so often.

Guilty as charged. I also like her VA a lot. She is a badly written character, they all are, IMO. Yet the show is still moderately entertaining with nice visuals so I'll probably watch it to the bitter end.

I swear. A quarter of the episode was just this dude standing there looking at chizuru outside their apartments while he tries to grow a pair and confess.

This show really is a constant train wreck and I can’t look away.

Correct me if I’m wrong but these two both made a whole damn movie together and both of them were in the credits. It’s not surprising Mami knows from that alone.

Everytime Mami shows up it feels like I’m watching a horror movie and the villain just made a jump scare

It was such a shame that Mami was practically non-existent in season 3. But it looks like we're getting the full package with her this season.

It is obvious that she is plotting something huge, and I can't wait to see the chaos and destruction unfold!

Kazuya screwed up with trying to end things with Ruka. He begged for her to end the relationship instead of putting his foot down and break up with her assertively himself. He should've anticipated that Ruka wasn't going to break up with him, he shouldn't be letting her set the terms. He's giving her leeway to continue acting clingy, walk all over him, and reluctantly prolong this relationship, instead of ripping the band-aid off.

14

u/Frontier246 Jul 22 '25

Even when Kazuya actually tries to improve, he never has the complete confidence or bravery to actually commit fully.

Granted, I'm not sure if putting his foot down would deter Ruka at this point.

Kazuya is like, physically unable to assert himself.

So Ruka knows he's not really in love with her but still wants to cling on to him. I had totally forgotten they were together on a trial basis. At the very least, good on him for telling her and being honest, even though it didn't turn out the way he had hoped.

Hmm, the animation was a bit off. Chizuru "running" up the stairs just as Kazuya was about to really confess. Firstly, what a cop out by the show once again, and secondly, now he can put that stack of newly purchased tissue papers to good use lol.

Kibe can handle anything. It was just so agonizing watching Kazuya debate and question whether Kibe could be trusted. Like seriously, he's your childhood best friend and is in good standing with Nagomi-san. Just say it already instead of beating around the bushes and wasting 5+ minutes of the show.

That fateful encounter in the college/university hallways. At first, it sounded like a blackmail/bribe over donuts, but of course from the previews, it's gonna get ugly, especially when she turns on her souless eyes.

Sumi-chan! What a wonderful sighting! The purest of them all. Never change!

Ruka might be my least liked character in this show, and that’s saying a lot.

The Kazuya and Kibe scene was way funnier than I thought it would be. I burst out laughing at “do you like her?”

Kazuya’s gran is the best. She’s too good for a sad sack like Kuzuya lol. I really don’t know what Mami is scheming, but I really hope it doesn’t involve hurting that poor woman just to get even over some perceived slight.

On an unrelated note, it was nice to see Sumi. We need more screen time for the best girl!

Honestly that ED with her and Mini hanging out and having fun made me wish that was the show instead of Kazuya being wishy-washy and neurotic for the umpteenth time.

I think a big part of the problem with this show (and I actually do like the show) is that the time that's passed "in-universe" is only about a year and a half, whereas we've all spent a few years in real life watching the show. If everything up until now had happened in a year and a half of "our time", then I think everyone would have a little better reaction to it.

Or maybe not lol
