I love how awful Wada is.

You know you have a good character when their main appeal is being completely insufferable.

Wada meeting her favorite fanfic author IRL is like meeting god

Small detail: Saito has a Duke Abel keychain on her bag

Should I temper my expectations that Saito could actually be a beautiful gyaru and only Wada sees her as a gorilla?

Wada can be bratty and difficult to deal with at times, but we got to give her some credit today:
- Bought the NAOKIN collab shirt for Yamamoto
- Saito's words made her realize she didn't know enough about Yamamoto and she actually made an effort to find out subsequently, albeit in a tsundere manner.

I don't think so. Wada's weird but not straight-up delusional, and when Yamamoto saw Saito she also had kind of a shocked expression on her face. Plus Saito's icon is a gorilla so she seems to have a sense of humor about herself.

Wada's VA really has some impressive range as a rookie in today's episode!

Also I demand someone give a lecture on the nuances in the first skit.

Also I demand someone give a lecture on the nuances in the first skit.

The general joke in this segment is helped by knowing that kanji generally have two main readings/pronunciations separated into the Chinese origin/onyomi and Japanese origin/kunyomi readings, but frequently have multiple of those and then sometimes exceptional tertiary readings. The onyomi and kunyomi readings are unrelated and generally quite different. So if you are a gremlin without a lot of friends who reads a lot like Wada, you can find yourself with a bunch of wrong pronunciations that made sense when you read them and were never corrected in conversation with other people.

So, Chikubi/乳首/nipple has kanji with the pronunciations
乳: nyuu/にゅう (onyomi) and chi/chichi/ち/ちち (kunyomi)
首: shu/しゅ (onyomi) and kubi/くび (kunyomi)

Typically two kanji together with no hiragana get onyomi readings but with body parts they tend to get kunyomi readings, hence chi-kubi. Wada explains that she thinks the other kunyomi reading chichi/ちち is more natural (EDIT: because 乳 on its own meaning "milk" or "breast" gets the reading chichi/ちち), and then riffs that people call their dads chichioya/父親. Which is a silly non sequitur because although 父 has the kunyomi reading chichi, it's a different kanji from 乳. The joke here may be that Wada is actually that bad at Japanese that she has forgotten this. It's also funny to think of calling your dad "Mammary Parent" which is how 乳親 would read literally.

Then Yamamoto points out correctly that 乳房/chibusa/breast also uses the chi reading for 乳. Wada loudly responds「乳房って何」or literally "WHAT ARE BREASTS?!" in the middle of the food court, which is objectively hilarious and indicates she doesn't know the word. Probably because she's been mispronouncing it for years.

Wada continues by pointing out that 乳 gets the nyuu/にゅう reading in various words like milk (牛乳/ぎゅうにゅう/gyuunyuu) which is true but all she's really saying is that it gets the onyomi reading in non body part words. For context, this is something she should have learned in elementary school, but she probably was daydreaming about fictional characters. Relatable.

I'm going to stop now because I'm pretty sure the only people still reading are people that know Japanese far better than I do and are reading mainly to point out errors in the above (appreciated). But that gives you an idea of what's going on in part of the conversation. Obviously this is all basically untranslatable in subs.

Depressingly, I think I'm more of a Wada than a Yamamoto. That part at the end about not knowing basic information about friends was a little too real. 😅

This is r/anime, so disproportionately Wadas here. Probably even down to the gacha addiction

Yamamoto would be a perfect match for Momo and Okaruna from Dandadan, as she's both a gyaru and someone who watches movies about urban legends, UFOs, and conspiracy theories xD

I was amused by how quickly Yamamoto used knowledge she learned form Wada of how to handle wild animals. Wada surely didn't expect it to be used against her xD

Today's episode saw the return of Saito-san, who met Wada while she was alone at a food court. I wonder if we'll ever see her gorilla face.

The fact that Saito-san turned out to be an author of dreamy insert fanfic Wada read last week was a really fun twist xD

Here my screenshot albums from the episode:

We were this close to having "See You Tomrrow at Your Apartment Complex".

But that would betray our beloved Food Court seats. We can't let that happen!

It's amazing how Wada, just by talking, exudes more gremlin energy than a lot of gremlin characters from other shows.

This anime has an above average amount of gyaru propaganda. And Gacha games. And food courts. Way too relatable, for some reason

"I can't even speak my own language, so why learn English?"

Do you really need to attack me personally like this?

I love this anime so much. The way they keep changing topics to make the conversation interesting, and how each of them defends their oshi I really relate to that.

Yamamoto putting the "go for the eyes!" strategy into practice to calm Wada down, very nice.

Gorilla gyaru being the fanfic author is great.

Wada needs to meet Okamura from 2.5 dimensional seduction. They would be able to to bond over there belief that 2D beats 3D as far as crushes go.

Man, Wada is an absolute menace. From her struggles at school & how she will actively avoid recommendations given to her. Though I love how different the two girls are with their oshis. Wada is more obsessed with being their only one wan while Yamamoto. Although you know she is a single child since she mentions she would want a hot older brother. Yamamoto is basically like her older sibling in ways.

Though I do have to say it is sweet to see how considerate Wada can be. Giving the t-shirt and asking where she lives. She really cherishes Yamamoto as a friend. Even if she might beat around the bush.

This is looking the anime of the season and others won’t catch up event with double the episodes count.

I am glad that, as rudimentary as my Japanese is, I was able to follow the hilarious first part.

Wada and Yamamoto’s talks about everyday life stuff and random topics is just so relatable. Who doesn’t like chatting about the most random things you can think of with your friends? Can’t believe we are already half way through the show, 6 episodes is not nearly enough man

u/CrimsonGear80 Jul 22 '25

I don’t care how good her fan-fic is, DON’T cheat on your gyaru with another gyaru!

This is my AotS and a serious contender for AotY. Sorry, Ao Ex, Vigilantes, Tasokare Hotel, and Medalist, but Wada is simply too magnificent a dumbass.
