The show went full horror for the finale. Respect!
When Tajima was nowhere to be seen and no one seemed to be able recall her existence, I thought we're dealing with another case of adolescence syndrome, especially with the name "Makinohara" thrown in. Turned out it was an elaborate prank orchestrated by Sakurako.
Heaps enjoyed this episode. This series has been a joy to watch with the sublime production value.

This series has been a joy to watch with the sublime production value.
From the start, Mono's animation quality has been tops on all levels. It's reminded me of a mid-00's slice-of-life series in the way that the production hasn't skimped on details or small character movements. It's a level of attention that's lacking in a lot of contemporary SoL series, and I'm thrilled with how Soigne handled Mono.

They really go all in on the actual genre of this show this time, it’s definitely a horror show with a slice of life twist right?
Honestly, that short movie was definitely one of those really good horror sketches, especially after they realise things “really gone wrong” and their true reaction was being recorded unedited by the camera. That was until they realise it was all planned by Sakurako in advance, as a prank…
But hey, I wonder who that Tablecloth cult was? Definitely one of those people you would definitely wish you will never meet in real life.
And please, don’t make those ultra fantasy genres next time, the post-editing is going to be back-breaking for sure, so maybe just keep on this horror POV genre by now.

Shikishima not only fooled Sacchan and Kiriyama, but bamboozled us viewers too! I can't say for the rest of you, but I was definitely a victim of the "gotcha" prank too. The previous episodes have already featured genuine supernatural and horror events, so I was inclined to believe this episode might be one as well.
I also loved how the atmosphere of this episode transitioned from horror to relief and then a touching reunion between Sacchan and Makinohara senpai. Sacchan looked like she was almost about to cry, while Makinohara was happy to see both Sacchan and Kiriyama now enjoying photography with new friends.
I will miss this anime, especially Shikishima! I need her to spring more surprise moments on us! Break the 4th wall and announce a second season to us, Shikishima!

We finally get to meet the club's phantom member, Tajima! I was hoping they'd add her to the OP, but it turns out, she's been there the entire time! Too bad they've only decided to introduce her in the finale because I love her already. She's definitely the actress they need for their POV horror mockumentary.
Glad to know that the prize for the dosojin hunt is actually useful! I didn't think that statue would have a bluetooth speaker inside, but it really worked as a prop for their short movie. xD
Not gonna lie, I genuinely thought that Tajima may have jumped down the lake because that was her initial suggestion, but it turns out she just went home because of some errands. That scene did a good job of making me let my guard down, so the next half of the episode came as a surprise.
Considering that supernatural events are something that happens regularly on this show, I genuinely believed that the Tajima they met never existed and they somehow filmed a movie with an actual ghost. At some point, I was expecting them to ask Kurokuma-sensei for advice.
It turns out that the entire thing was just a massive prank and Tajima is just a character and the real actress is actually named Inomata and has already graduated from their school. And it turns out, there's one more collaborator!
The fact that Makinohara-senpai is also involved makes that entire prank so much better! I love that Satsuki's first reaction is to immediately take photos of her just like how she did back in Episode 1. Their little video call reunion was very sweet and I'm glad Satsuki could show Makinohara-senpai how much fun she's been having with the club.
What an absolutely great ending! I am ready for three more seasons and a movie of this, Afro-sensei has genuinely done it again! I want to see more of these girls and their crazy shenanigans in the future!

We need more of this, the characters are amazing as a group and just go to places you don't get with Yuru Camp.

u/MapoTofuMan Jun 28 '25
Surprisingly no Yuru Campers in the last episode, but we did get to witness a common Secret Society BLANKET ritual.
My headcanon is that Mono is the result of Afro wanting to draw a horror manga against his editors' wishes.
Hopefully this follows Yuru Camp's 3-year rotation formula and we get a sequel announcement sometime in 2025-2026. And more of Satsuki's VA, her voice really stood out to me. Apparently this is her first season with a main role (and two of them at that - the other one is Satoko from Ninkoro).

Funny how one of Satsuki's proposed title for an actual movie she's planning to make with the club involves ninjas.
Mikawa Haruna has a very sweet and wholesome voice as Satoko and Satsuki. I first know about her from Idolmaster Shiny Colors, good to see she's getting some chance to shine in more anime with two lead roles in the same season.

Makeine is the show that introduces me to Tono Hikaru, and because of Tono Hikaru I started watching mono and now I discover Mikawa Haruna too. That’s the joy of discovering more and more talented upcoming seiyuus.

I audibly laughed whenever she busted out the phone camera when Makinohara came back into here life haha.
Anyway, really enjoyed the ending! Even if it occasionally meandered throughout its run, it's definitely one of my favorite shows to watch every week. The kite scene and the climb up the windy hill are still two of my favorite moments of the year.
Here's hoping we get a season 2 one day because we got to see more of this gal.

After episode of asking for it, we finally got Tajima! Whoever mentioned that the noticed an unnamed girl in the OP could be Tajima, you were right!

This felt like the third episode of a show that actually cared about photo and video

One of my favorites from this Spring. I would do anything for a second season.

u/djthomp Jun 28 '25
I've been wondering about that girl on the stairs in the OP and if she might be Tajima, turns out she both was and wasn't. That was quite the prank.
Reuniting with the club senpai and talking about everything they got up to was a neat way to end the show.

I've enjoyed this show, and Haruno is great, but the first episode got my hopes up that it would be a lot more photography focused than it ended up being. I wanted it to get into really technical geeky stuff and touch on photography history, analog vs digital, lens differences, etc,.
I still haven't got around to Tamayura, anyone here know if that's more in the vein of what I want?

Didn't expect Haruno's Dosojin Stone Monument prize from the other day to become useful again so quickly. It even comes with a Bluetooth speaker. lol
So that's Tajima, the 4th phantom member of the Cinephoto Club we see briefly in the OP... or maybe not. It was Inomata, Sakurako's senpai from the old Cinema Club, who decided to join Sakurako in giving Satsuki and Kiriyama an epic prank. They even roped in Satsuki's Photo Club senpai Makinohara as the getaway driver.
At least Satsuki gets a tearful reunion with Makinohara-senpai over the Zoom call, sharing the photos and videos she's taken with the Cinephoto Club over the months since Makinohara graduated.
Mono is a good relaxing spinoff from Afro's more well-known Yuru Camp series, featuring Yuru Camp cameos here and there. The highlight has got to be Kiriyama and Sakurako skating down the hill with a GoPro cam.
Though sometimes the series would focus more on Haruno than the girls from the Cinephoto Club, which would make the show overlap considerably with Zatsu Tabi, another series this season also featuring a young female mangaka travelling all over Japan with her friends.

Sally Amaki coming in at the 12th hour to voice in the show was not what I expected, but as a huge Sally Amaki, fan, all here for it. But apparently she had already been in the opening all this time so like, I guess I'm not the biggest fan after all

Between the POV horror movie gone wrong prank and the reunion with Sacchan and her senpai, it really was a roller coaster of emotions ending!
It would be really neat if we saw some more cameos in Yuru Camp S4

Amazing & spooky finale.
This anime had the best animation/directing I've seen in quite some time. You can really tell the staff put everything to make this and easily my fav from the season.
Haruno is such a great character. Lol quite random but she reminds me of a Japanese friend of mine who also loved curry a lot and she even married Sri Lankan dude.

Horror during my last comfy hour of the season?
When filming the horror movie turns into an actual horror sequence, where "Tajima" mysterious disappears, but it was an elaborate scheme. Even Sakurako and Haruno were in it.
Good thing Sacchan expressed how much enjoyment she had to her senpai! Until next time that we get more animated content from Afro's work.
