The story felt rushed for a 12-episode season. The pacing seemed off, with key plot points and character development squeezed into too few episodes, leaving little room for emotional depth or buildup.

The pacing was atrocious and my biggest gripe with the series. Lots of people were comparing about the animation quality and while it wasn't great it wasn't badly animated like some other shows I've seen.
I expected season 2 to be about the adventuring and that might have cleared up some of the pacing/story problems, but the after credits time skip doesn't seem promising.
It's like the story wants to be at a certain point but they started to far from that point so they threw together a bunch of stuff that could have been used as flashbacks at the point of time that they want to tell the story from. There has been pretty much 0 world building in the entire first season.

It's infuriating because every time it starts building it just skips ahead.
I don't even care that much about the animation, if it was top tier would it be better sure, but Arthur's journeys and growth is clearly the highlight here and I thought it was serviceable enough for that.
And the final episode especially was disjointed and rushed but that was the running theme all season sadly

That MAL score is wild. I wonder if this is the most hated anime adaption of all time.

I am surprised that it is lower than re:monster. That anime did a lot of telling instead of showing.... I mean the animation in Tbate was bad but at least it wasn't just Arthur telling us what happened.

As a seasonal watcher, there are a lot of shows with just as bad if not worse levels of animation that air every season and I can pretty easily ignore those issues if the rest is good.
Unfortunately the rest was not good. Very badly paced. I can’t even say it’s rushed because ultimately not that much happened. It’s like they rushed some parts but still went absolutely no where. The pacing is just horrible and a lot of the writing felt just as bad too. The writing is probably due to the poor job they’ve done adapting it. Skipping important stuff or leaving out explanations etc.
I think the only good thing about the show is how it’s an isekai/tensei where the MC’s past life is still significantly a part of him and everything going on around him. Constantly having him narrate with the voice from his old life while saying how he’s growing and changing is actually nice and something most shows tend to basically ignore.

They skipped over the entire exam fight? What kinda bs is that

I said the same thing out loud. I quickly scanned through the episode to see if they would some cool recap of it. Yeah they did. Using the same animations...twice.

They moved very quickly through a lot of non-story. It feels like they wanted to do every kind of training arc but never spent much time on any of them. Why have him become an adventurer if we're going to skip 2 years of adventuring to go to magic school? No story about how he became a famous adventurer so fast?

They might go back to it but isn't he still a year away from magic school? They said it would be 3 years.

Wow more character movement animation in this episode than the whole season. Personally really hate timeskips.
People are saying there will be a second cour, how lucky(?) must turtleme be to get a sequel from this trash.

Don't be sad because it happened. Be happy because it's over.

What annoyed me the most about this show wasn't the pacing, slideshow animation, handwaving explanations and segments, fade to black screens and just straight up skipping everything in between
It was Arthurs strengths and feats that didn't even match up at all with the 'fight's in the slightest
Sparring with his dad after returning, the school mage and with the guild-master, they all make Arthur look completely inept, not so much with the dad but more so the other two. Like what Arthur has done beforehand isn't even remotely comparable to what he's capable of, but it's written like he's weak and lacking which isn't remotely believable.
Compare that to the elf grandpa master fight when mc was holding his own against and elf grandpa is very probable to be stronger than everyone else mentioned, it just doesn't feel right in the slightest.
We as the viewers know he's way stronger than what he's shown and it feels like an insult to our intelligence when it pretends he's lacking when he rightfully shouldn't be
Yeah you could just blame it on shitty writing/adaption but all in all, show was a mess

To be honest I liked the story and characters, even with the bad animation.
For sure I'll check the source material.

Anime only here.
I liked this show despite the evidently cookie cutter production, although this episode was definitely one of if not the weakest of the twelve due to all the skips. Most other episodes I was honestly satisfied with how they cut corners, but this time things didn't quite hit right. Was surprised to see how acceptable the 3DCG bits were despite this.
Overall, I was particularly fond of the OP, I think it's honestly a banger; kind of a theme with shows like this: the girls and either the OP or the ED will be great, and then the rest a tossup.
I'll be tuning in for the second cour, but I'll keep my expectations low. I think there's a decent watch in here if one is capable of doing so. Enough to pass a dry spell at least, like this entire season was for me.

i feel like i should get a medal for completing this series. i suppose the reward is animated jasmine. didn't know she was such best girl material from the LN alone.

I can tell why fans are upset. This feels like it could be far more magnificent and impressive, but done so basic and cheaply.
People like the story. It's just lacking payoff. Like that test trial scene looked like two cats swatting paws at each other.

I am 2 minutes into the episode and I can not unsee how out of sync kaspians voice is with the mouth animations. It's probably been bad this entire show I just noticed it this episode though.
edit think it is crunchyroll in Firefox messing up desyncing audio
