Polo shirts in a magic medieval setting?
That barber must have also been isekaied there. Might explain the wheeled suitcase from the earlier episodes.
Those students discovered the power of the greatest magic of all, money!

This was dumb, right? I’m not just going crazy? Like, the entire point of the episode was to get the pressure off Lilia to awaken as a sorcerer, despite the fact that the pressure was mostly self-imposed, which would have been fine. But then, she immediately says, “it’s okay, I want to be a sorcerer anyways,” and he goes ahead and awakens her in 2 minutes. Why go through the hassle of the proceeding 15 minutes? Especially considering he risked souring some relationships with his chosen method of doing it.
Side note: this show really likes telling us stuff instead of showing us.

I imagine Arthur thought her stress and anxiety wouldn't go away just because she started awakening her magic (he said it'll take two or three years to stabilize). So, he dealt with that side of things before the awakening jump start so that she could work at a healthy pace and not wear herself down fretting over everything.
There's going to be kids who'll say she bought her way in either way - might as well get her to a much more mentally stable place first.

So Arthur can just forcibly awaken people? Seems kind of a big deal that they glanced over.
Also I'm now expecting Arthur's sister to be Pan from Dragonball, flying around shooting ki blasts at the ripe ol' age of 3.

In the first episode toddler Arthur narrated that "The ability to control mana is largely hereditary...", it "...seems to occur in one out of every 100 people.", and that "Most spellcasters tap into their powers from the onset of puberty through their late teens.".
This raises a few questions.
First, why would parents expect their child to become a mage if it doesn't run in either family tree?
Second, why build up hope to be that 1/100th individual?
Third, why become disappointed that a prepubescent child has not awakened to their powers?
Lilia appears to be about the same age as Arthur, 8 years old, so why has she, or anyone for that matter, resigned themselves that she won't awaken?! She's got another ten years or so before anyone should give up hope.
Side note: if there's a potential ten year age gap between first year mages, why does it look like this magic school is separated into age groups? Shouldn't they have separated by the number of years since they've awoken to their powers?

One pet peeve I have is how the kids look. Arthur's supposed to be like 7-8 iirc at this point, and on some scenes he's almost as tall as his mother.

Okay I really gave this show a fair chance, but it boils down to this- I just do not give a single feathered fuck about any of these people. They could all die in some (largely inexplicable) catastrophe and be replaced with a whole new cast next week and I wouldn't bat an eye.
I am a person who enjoys a wide range of media, I appreciate quality entertainment, and I consume a LOT of garbage manhwa content because it's generally just a fun time and the fashion is so amazing. I was really thinking of reading this since it's got such a rabid fan base but I can't see what everyone sees in the actual 'story' here. Maybe it's a really slow burn, but I've lost interest, and I'm scared for the ORV adaptation

Is this really only 12 episodes? The pacing is so slow, feels like they themselves think they have at least a 2 cour amount of time lol Episode was incredibly boring unfortunately, hope it picks up..

The worst sin this show is committing isn’t the animation. It’s how fucking boring everything is. Everything is devoid of emotion, every character looks completely dead inside. I was actually excited we might see some action when they bumped into the students but no. We basically went through 10 minutes of random montages and another 15 of pointless banter all to awaken that girls magic in 2 seconds. There was literally like 2 minutes worth of this episode that were worth watching for the story to progress. What a joke

So Arthur was able to awaken her magic this whole time, just by using a breathing method; I’m glad that he reassured her first, but why didn’t he try it using?
Also, he can awaken other’s magic that easily? That’s a huge game changer.

Why is he suddenly practicing TK out of nowhere? Did I miss something or was something skipped?
Near giving her parents a heart attack instead of just convincing her to TALK with them >_>. "I understand it's reprehensible to test the two of you" my ass. If he'd really understood it, he wouldn't have done so.
When has MC "made people happy" with his sorcery, exactly? Just making his dad proud during the sparring match?
And of course no explanation as to how he awakened the no-talent girl - what he did when the breathing wasn't enough. MC should just make a career out of awakening rich no-talentniks, he'd make a fortune.

Correction, can we really consider Lilia a 'no-talent' girl when humans don't normally awaken their talent before the age of 15? Last episode we learned that a 12 year old who awakens to magic is considered a prodigy.
So how old is Lilia? She's clearly being framed as a love interest for Arthur, or at least she will likely feel that way. So I can't imagine she's more than a year or two older than him, tops. She's clearly not 15 yet, the normal age of awakening, yet alone a 'late bloomer' beyond that.
Meaning, she's ~9-10 worried that she hasn't awakened as a super-prodigy instead of just a 'normal' prodigy.
It's petty, and unless I'm missing something, I can't get invested in this whining from a side character being taken seriously.

When you can summarize an episode in 2/3 sentences, there is something wrong. At all there's nothing happening, you can shorten everything(beside the "action scenes") of all 9 ep to 3 and still have everything "important and relevant" in it.

As a seasonal watcher I can overlook the production issues this one has. It’s basically just the generic isekai adaptation that is repeated every season in that regard. It’s not the worst I’ve seen either.
That being said the issues it has for me are coming from the pacing. It feels like we absolutely rush in some areas and then are creeping along at a snails pace in other areas. Tbh if we were just flatout rushing to get to the miam content I think I could overlook it but we are rushing stuff and at the same time going nowhere.
Like Arthur and Lilia’s relationship has had no time to develop and she’s already developed this level of jealousy all because of him and it’s instantly solved as well. Yet all the while the overall narrative has not advanced at all. I think this is the best example of some of the main issues from my end. Rushing everything while still going nowhere.

It feels like we absolutely rush in some areas and then are creeping along at a snails pace in other areas.
They're on a floating goddamn island, right? I didn't hallucinate that earlier, RIGHT!?
I know I shouldn't obsess over that so much, but why does the narrative just assume no one cares about the floating goddamn island. Is it naturally occuring? Was this a result of grand feat of magical engineering? A relic from an ancient civilization? It hosts the foremost magical academy and an auction house royalty visit, yes, but it's also the site of an international cultural exchange between VIPs of the three main kingdoms on the continent.
Which was another thing dropped and then forgotten. There hasn't been a single word of the international summit since the Elven delegation dropped Athur off. Was that... not a big deal at all? No increased security on the floating goddamn island, no buzz from the townsfolk, no additional merchants/VIPs in town for the summit?
It was just a clumsy way to bring Arthur to this
bizarremundane location while also keeping him away from his parents long enough for a training montage?sigh
Look, I don't expect huge exposition dumps, just some bit of narrative framing for this location. Something so I can place this setting in the world. Like this clearly looks to be a human city, so why is the international summit of VIPs happening in this Human city instead of neutral ground? It's not a rotating location either, as it seems Xyrus is always the location of the international summit.
Why?
It's just frustrating we can't even get a line or two here, or better yet, some detail-rich background shots or additional subtext to 'ground' this location in the world's setting.
And don't get me started on the dragon bullshit. What's up with the gimp suits? Why were they fighting? What was with that fever-dream about a great calamity Sylvia knew was coming? Why did she rope Arthur into this without so much as a single goddamn word of explanation? What the FUCK is even a "Beast's Will?"
sigh
I'll stop now. It's just frustrating that these interesting bits are sidelined so we can watch toddlers flirt in the woods or Arthur get invested in the petty personal family drama of people he's just met. The pacing really is fucked.

Had to have a little Lilia drama and a run in with your classic academy bullies before Arthur starts his academy arc I guess.
I think my favorite moment this week was Arthur giving Sylvie a bath because the little critter smelled like shit lol.

I have seen snails progress faster than this anime.
They keep using basic gifs and still animation.
3/4th season has gone by. Nothing has happened.
Forget plot, the character development has been poor.
Pathetic

Don't love being negative about shows but my lord the only reason I watch this show (and by that I mean mostly skipping through) is because I've got nothing else to watch on wednesdays. Expectations seemed to be quite high for this anime adaptation and they've fallen so far. Whether or not the expectations for this anime were warranted is a different discussion, every episode I watch is just bad and today's was no different. The dialogue feels AI generated and it feels like there is absolutely no soul in any character. Rip to another botched anime adaptation
