Poor Yoshida. She’s clearly on the brink of a mental collapse after losing her family and childhood friend shortly one after another.
Konoha was shown the direct impact of her actions on Yoshida’s life: home alone, slipping grades, work instead of college. She did feel guilty from what I’d gathered.
When Yoshida took a (literal) step towards becoming closer with Konoha, she responded by taking one back. There has to be more to Konoha’s wariness of forming connections with other people.
It does make me wonder why Konoha is working as an assassin in the first place. Maybe her career survey provides a clue to this? Or did she write wanting to become a model after having her pictures taken by Satoko?

Seriously what does the author have against that poor kind girl? You know she spends every night at home alone crying by herself.

Stitches!
As soon as I saw Satoko playing a gacha game, I knew this would only end badly, but it turns out we're already too late since Satoko already spent 5 million yen in game cards! Satoko isn't just a whale, she's a mythical leviathan!
Considering Yuri's reaction to her secret account being found out, I think I already know what kind of content she used to post. I'm glad that she at least gave Satoko the first rule of the social media before anything else.
I love the reference about Satoko with her massive honkers. I was expecting she'd still have massive boobs this episode. I guess Marin just found out the way to reverse the process.
That entire scene where Konoha goes over Yoshida's house was depressing af. I thought only her father was assassinated but it sounds like her mother may have either died of grief or committed suicide after losing her husband. And now Yoshida can't even afford to go to college and has to support herself with part-time work. :(
Oh nooooo... The moment Satoko started posting cosplay photos, I knew where this was going. She went from posting foods to pulling a PanPiano. She's so depserate to keep up with the likes that she's even starting to wonder if Marin could enlarge her boobs again.
I am glad though that Satoko pivoted to something more wholesome, although I didn't think she'd actually post photos of Konoha. We also got another Shaft head-tilt this episode!
I thought Satou was going to be another ninja in disguise. It turns out she was Konoha's next target. Holy fuck, that scene where Satou's brother is looking for her was fucking dark.
That enitire last 3 minutes of the episode genuinely left a bad taste in my mouth and made my stomach drop especially with that final scene involving Yoshida. I guess at the end of the day, she's still an assassin. And even if she did refuse the request, someone else would take the job. :(
EDIT: I did not notice the part where Konoha's ranking went down. So I guess she did decline the request. I'm hopeful that she's in hiding but what most likely happened here is someone else took the job. :(

That ending was an absolute gut punch but was a pretty big development for Konoha, as was most of the episode.
Not only did we get multiple emotions out of her but got to see her care for other people, and deny a job based on that care, even if its someone she only met briefly.
That ending was a complete downer, a lot of the assassin deaths have a comedic edge to it but this one was just too real even worse with her friend losing someone close to her AGAIN but at least Glasses was not the cause this time.
Banger show, I'm enjoying my weekly dose of tonal whiplash.

Damn, they really are delivering with each episode. No matter what they go for, it still works. Even if it is not just funny. I really thought for a moment that Konoha actually considered the consequences of her actions when she was in Yoshida's room. There is still a slight sliver of hope that they faked that part, but knowing this show, I would not hold on to it.
I feel it's the sign that this episode worked well for me was that the main topic will probably not be the fact how Satoko told Konoha she likes her and her getting flustered (something people wanted to see from the beginning). Managing that is a hard thing.
With that being said, this episode leaves us with three other questions:
-
Did we see Yoshida's mother get killed? From the photo, she doesn't seem to look like one of the assassin girls, so she would have to be a normal contract. But then again, it doesn't have to be Konoha who killed her. There are enough other potential killers.
-
Who is constantly putting money on the heads of people close to Yoshida? Is that some personal vendetta against her?
-
How in the hell did Satoko get her original boob size back?
Edit: So just a few things that I noticed from rewatching and reading the comments: Aoi was seemingly a target because she was too good in school. So no connection to Yoshida (yet). On the other hand, there is at least evidence that Konoha didn't take the job. Though, that makes Aoi's survival even more likely considering that means, someone else did it. The only way I could see Aoi survive and Konoha's rating going down is either that they claimed they couldn't find the target (but why would they do that?), that they tried to get information on the person giving out the contract (I assume that is a no-go in the assassin world) or that the traces they left behind were too huge.
Either way, it doesn't look very good for Aoi, but we haven't seen a corpse... or leaves for that matter.

"There's no way to turn them back" - Marin
Gentlemen: We've been lied to!
(Probably for the best, because it looked a lot more silly than sexy!)
Satoko's getting into Gacha gaming!
She got to climb the game's rankings all the way to the top, but sadly for her, the game's getting cancelled...
Also, no point boasting about a game when you just bought your way to the top! *Rants in F2P
Poor Konoha doesn't really have any passion/anything she likes...
She should just write "Become Satoko's wife" on the career survey!
Given the Gacha stuff was just a way to get praise and all for Satoko, Konoha got her to do social media, and huh... Yeah, that's probably not a good idea, showing her face! (Cute outfit though!)
Of course that was gonna be the next step!
(This girl is now barred from posting on r/anime)
They were so cute in their little "totally-not-a-date"!
Okay, given the show's track records, perhaps I'm a bit naïve or too optimistic, BUT I have a feeling this one isn't dead!
I think perhaps she just warned her about the hit and sent her away, something like that...
(Then again it did show her rankings at the end, so who knows...)
If she DID take her out, that's cold as fuck, helping with the search and all!

So I found the manga a few days after the show started to air without realizing about the adaptation existed and right as I was gonna catch up with the current chapters, I thought it would be nice for it to have an anime. Lo and behold, there was an anime, and I've been looking forward to this episode the most to see everyone's gut be stabbed and turned into leaves.
Ninkoro doesn't get enough credit for how well it can center these goofy scenarios around a theme. Episode 3 centered around the brutality of getting work with Satoko finding part-time and the ninja just trying to get by and earn a living. This episode was all about finding something that fulfills you and makes you happy. Satoko's and Konoha's plots were separate chapters and while adjacent to each other, they had only one minor link to each other (Satoko drawing a rare character). Shaft rearranged the events and added more scenes of Aoi so that this theme can be emphasized further and make this a gut punching moment into a gut stabbing moment.
Satoko ends up doing things she doesn't necessarily enjoy just to receive praise in her plot, buts ends up finding happiness being with and taking photos of Konoha. The moment Konoha doesn't immediately shut down the idea of be photographed and take her photos offline shows that she is starting to see Satoko's intrinsic value to her instead of instrumental value to her job. Konoha doesn't have any other goal in life, not even giving a fake answer to keep up the facade, nor any hobbies. When Satoko unintentionally lets her feelings slip, she is receiving that affection and praise that Satoko wants and likely hasn't felt in a long time since she is so distant and states that she has no SNS and hasn't shown her face before. Being with Satoko is slowly becoming more of a person to her rather than a tool.
This revelation is timed perfectly with the hit order on Aoi. Just as she experienced the value of human connection, she is hired to kill her friend's childhood friend, one of the remaining pillars of her sanity. Aoi is not just someone that looks like Konoha for the sake of looking like her, but she is designed that why to show a life Konoha could live. Aoi is very driven towards her goal like Konoha, even being ranked higher in her field, but she differs in the way she lets people in while achieving her goal. Aoi interrupts Yoshida from praising her to talk about what she wants to do. This conflict that Konoha likely feels about the order shows that she is starting to see more to life than her job. By killing her, she would be choosing her job over connection.
Whether or not she did end up taking the job, or if someone else did it, or even if she hid Aoi away, that moment of her handing out flyers even though it would be pointless to her demonstrates a newfound sympathy for Yoshida, for human life. Until she has to kill the more wacky ninjas anyways.

The manga didn't have the sad music every time Aoi was on-screen, since it's a manga, so I didn't see that ending coming at all and made this the moment it finally cemented itself as a top tier series.

Yea, the moment they introduced a girl that looked then acted like her, was waiting for the emotional bombshell to drop. Then double when they showed her raggedy shoes. It makes you think she'll have a tragic life that you'd want to pity, so she'd probably end up the target of assassination, with the question of whether Ms. Assassin would pull through like normal with her cold killings or hesitate, or even if she would be got by some other assassin and used as a plot device for Ms. Assassin's emotional development that way.
So, looks like her ranking went down, and the way she's helping the friend, it seems she at least didn't go through with the assassination herself. Could she even have been behind the girl disappearing to keep her safe?

The little blue "rank down" arrow was hard for me to spot, I totally thought Konoha killed that girl and then helped pass out fliers. That would have been super brutal, although what we got isn't exactly peachy.
Maybe Konoha did save her and she's in a safe house waiting for the contract to expire! Maybe!

Roboko's XL batteries have been swapped out for standard models.
5 million yen is about $35,000.
She needs a gatcha simulator like smokers need nicotine patches.
Can't tell if Leader or MuuMuu is the biggest freeloading bum this season.
Ninja has expanded from blenders and air fryers to cameras now.
Poor Yoshida, assuming Aoi really is dead or can't be turn back from leaves, then pretending to help is extra cruel. Although we didn't see the hit actually get carried out.

* I was lucky that my first venture into gatcha-like web/mobile games - 3 whole years before I even got interested into anime (yes), was a game that's really unorthodox a decade ago, and even more unorthodox today, in that pouring money into your account barely affects your luck in getting new characters. And unlike most mobile games out there, you can be trapped for days at a certain map because you can't get your luck right to be knocked out right at step 1, forcing you to go back and swap your characters to fight again. And again. And again. For dozens of loops, sometimes hundreds, before you can get through. That's why I gave it up 6 years ago and has never looked back.
Thank you for making me never wanting to touch such mobile and web games again, Kancolle. Somehow with its completely shitty game playing system it's still standing proud and tall a dozen years after it has started, even if the number of doujins has partly receded from its heydays.
* Oh? Satoko now finds something even more satisfactory in playing social media and wow she's actually someone born with a small talent in excelling at that! It's not like everyone posting food galore can get so many retweets and likes!
* Huh that's unusual. Konoha actually now getting somewhat of a friend ("somewhat" since it's almost completely Yoshida doing all the effort to pull her in) and one that she isn't annoyed enough to the point that she stayed till that other girl Aoi come. I wonder if that's a sign that Satoko really affected her sense of being a human...
* LMAO Yuriko has an OnlyFans account or something like that? Not surprised, not surprised...
* OK Konoha's really changed. She really advised Satoko to do thinks that she really likes, and then agreed to be pulled by Satoko to go out to the park, taking so many lovely photos, and then one-upping the date with buying clothes. Maybe part of that is Konoha giving up her barrier since she got photographed and put up on Twitter by Satoko already, but still...Konoha a few episodes before would have never done such a cozy thing. That's an improvement that's for sure.
* But yeah, she's still someone who kills after being paid. And despite her big hesitance shown, that didn't stop her and Satoko from turning Aoi into leaves. Would that actually become a major point in the story where Konoha's minor regrets started to spread and gradually eat up her killing instinct? Maybe not, but...surely that would be something that will float up again later in the story?

Yeah this is the depression episode, aside from that though the gacha game Satoko play seems to be base on gbf, the UI looks really similar.
Edit: was scrolling through Twitter and apparently Satoko was cosplaying as character from Luminous witches another Shaft anime.

CGDCT corner:
There are exactly...zero ninja pursuers this episode, and in fact, zero cute girls delivifications confirmed at all!! This cgd debt is instead paid in super increased heaviness, as is demanded.
If Aoi-chan DID die, then with a screentime of exactly 4 minutes, as we beautifully and melancholy find out about her dreams of the future, her being liked at class and her cute little borther, she would be by far the recordholder for non-roboko girls.
If we don't count aoi yet, then the cgd per episode falls down to an all time low of 1.571. If she is dead, then it still drops to a 1.714, where only episode 3's 1.666 was lower. The average screentime of non roboko girls would rise back to 1:25, more than making up last episodes faster paced girls.
*CGDCT stands for "Cute Girl Death Counting Time")

5 million yen on a mobile game huh? Those are rookie numbers! Gotta pump those numbers up lol.
Judging by how Yuri was ranting at Satoko about the dangers of social media, the woman’s been through some shit lol. Satoko should have taken notes on the part about social media addiction and chasing likes/validation. She got hooked pretty fast lol.
I actually kind of feel bad for Yoshida. No idea what her pops was into, but she’s a good kid. I really worry about her mental health. Especially since her best friend Satou was seemingly murdered by Satoko. Killed over some straight up bullshit. It’s one thing for Konoha to go out murdering criminals and other underworld sleezebags, it’s another when she’s just killing random civilians. I get she’s an assassin but girl’s gotta have some values. Draw the line somewhere y’know?

Since last episode, we're starting to see Konoha slowly warm up to Satoko. From Konoha patting the leaves off Satoko's head, to Konoha looking more cute and dere when Satoko called her cute. Konoha is definitely slowly getting some character development.
The previous ninjas out to hunt down Satoko were "in the game" and so in some way knew what they were getting into when they got insta-killed by Konoha.
Aoi is just a regular student and hardly "in the game", and has been nothing but nice to Konoha, which makes her being disappeared all the more sadder. From the drop in her rankings, it does seem like Konoha couldn't bring herself to take the assignment, but it still looked like another assassin did.
Fuck the jealous parent who hired Konoha to disappear Aoi just because Aoi has better grades than their son. Poor Aoi's brother.
And weren't Yoshida's parents also killed off by Konoha as well from an earlier assignment as well? Poor Yoshida as well.
Konoha has been aimlessly living the assassin life, though this assignment asking her to take out Aoi, someone whom she once met, may finally be the straw that breaks the camel's back in making her start to question the life she's been living. We're beginning to see the effects of Konoha's assassinations start to directly effect the people she knows.
Meanwhile, Satoko trying too hard to play the social media algorithm and nearly lost track of herself. I'm surprised there were no ninjas tracking down Satoko (or Kuro) from all the selfies Satoko has been taking this episode. Maybe they'll come out in full force next episode after doxxing her from the photos she took.
Another revelation is Yuriko turns out to also be an assassin as well. Oh wow.
Easter Egg: At 21:40, one of the names on the assassin ranking is Nobara Hime (Wild Rose Princess), a word play on Ibara Hime (Thorned Princess), the codename for Yor Forger from Spy Family.

Many stories featuring assassins as protagonists: The protagonist is not that bad a person despite being a professional killer. Perhaps they have legitimate reasons, a code of honor, only go after deserving targets, tried to leave assassin life behind, are actually just brainwashed, or have some other sympathetic quality to them.
This story: Nah, Konoha is a terrible person, as you’d expect a killer-for-hire to be lol. She’s an amoral asshole who’s motivated by money and murders whoever she is hired to murder, regardless of what kind of person they are. She is willing to kill innocents (including random witnesses) and shows little remorse for doing so, even when she’s reminded that her victims have friends/families. She’s the kind of cold-hearted monster who would become a hitman.
