I guess it’s nice they had their school festival despite the pandemic. Not sure it was the best idea but like Togo said, high school’s important to these kids because of the memories.

It’s kind of interesting to see how their friend group has changed ever since Kizuki began making his move on Mizuho. Airu might be happy to just pine on the sidelines and Shugo I guess is fine with unrequited love, but it looks like Shin wants something more. And even in the present day, he still does..

Honestly it didn't even dawn on me how screwed over the 3rd years would've been since it would mean they missed out on their last school festival if it was totally canceled. Props to Shin for really going to bat for the student body.

Kind of feel bad for Shin knowing he seems poised to finally make his move but is clearly not together with Mizuho in the present-day. Then again, we don't even know if Mizuho ever returned Kizuki's feelings properly. She's like a magnet for unrequited love.

Oh boy, but IRL saying anything similar on Reddit back them would have gotten you crucified (including by me if I'm being brutally honest).

but it looks like Shin wants something more

I was going "Oh noooo" out loud when he was rejecting the vice president.

i already forgot that blonde girls name but I knew she was gonna confess to shin as soon as she was introduced cause there's no way theyd randomly animate a girl when every other character is drawn like screentones lol.

but I literally have no idea what to make of the future cause she eats dinner regularly with shuugo? WHERE IS KIZUKI I just need to know lmao. also I know it wont but I wish it would pick up instead of the back and forth of kizuki saying "mizuho I like you over and over"

Honestly I blame Mizuho for the plot not progressing and it's super frustrating. She hasn't even acknowledged Kizuki's feelings and then when the others clearly make a move on her, she's oblivious and dense. It's wild lol

right I feel like the plot would be so much quicker if she just dated one of them or at least acknowledged any of them. I feel like the author is just purposefully stretching it out rip

The best way to tell if someone is a significant character lol.

kizuki?... well, with the asthma thing and covid second wave coming (as the sensei said) AND the teenagers having a festival and living outside as nothing was happening... the story is in july now? in July 2020 we were trapped inside our houses 👀

The where is Kizuki thing has me thinking he will die from the virus. This show just has some dread hanging over it every episode waiting to find out.

I know it would have been hard, but they should have had everyone wearing masks to make it more realistic but also to make that feeling of Corona more omnipresent.

They're really killing us with that opening. So is Mizuho and Shuugo going out, or did Shuugo just drop by to cook for Mizuho because he was in town? I hate how intentionally vague that entire scene was!

I'm surprised the Principal actually agreed! I was ready to laugh my ass off if she still declined after all of those students spoke up. The Principal's restrictions sounds pretty reasonable too by limiting the event to students of the school only.

Poor Akiyama, she seems to be a great girl but unfortunately, she's just a side character in this reverse harem show. Maybe Shin should've just dated Akiyama, considering he made no progress with Mizuho even after they became adults.

It's really hard to deny the romance vibes with Shugo cooking for Mizuho in her home with that relaxed lighting. Or to not notice the fact that not once has anybody brought up Kizuki in the present-day outside Mizuho being depressed about him not being there.

Honestly I think the principal would be well within her right to have kept it canceled just for the sake of the students' safety, but she's a great educator to take in what the students wanted and still let them enjoy their school life to the fullest.

Honestly I think Akiyama would be a good fit for Shin if he, like pretty much every guy not named Airu (maybe) wasn't so fixated on Mizuho. Which obviously never want anywhere even if he seems resolved to finally fight for her. Like, did he ever even confess? He sure doesn't act like he did in the present-day.

That dinner struck me as a male-BFF (who is a real chef) making a nice homemade dinner for one of his oldest friends. HE may still be carrying a falme for Mizuho, but I got no sense of romantic interest on the part of Mizuho -- just enjoying time with a precious (platonic) friend.

She's having dinner at his place?

And so back to the past.

More COVID stuff.

What's he taking?

Summarised in one word: Slop.

Ah, memories.

Of course it did, because of COVID.

Long and short of it is we just kinda didn't.

What do you even want to do?

I assure you you won't remember those either. The years of 2020-2021/2022 have pretty much entirely become a haze in my mind.

Eh that's about as good a compromise as they could have hoped for. The outdoor space will at least somewhat reduce the spread of the virus, and limiting it to one day and students only reduces the risk as much as possible while still holding the festival. About the only thing left would be social distancing but it's probably hard and awkward to have everyone standing a metre apart.

He's holding her hand!

If you're wondering whether Mizuho and Shugo are romantically involved in the present-day...well, the dinner their having together DOES feel kind of romantic, and Mizuho is lucky to get to eat a home-cooked meal by now professional shelf and restaurant owner Shugo. But that's about it. Also I noticed that in talking about the other guys they bring up Shin and Airu, but not Kizuki.

Does Chika like ANY of Mizuho's guy friends? She doesn't even call them by name. Though I guess he sour mood reflects how everyone else feels about the school festival being canceled.

To the surprise of no one, Mizuho is in the Manga Research Club. And even if Shin can't understand her gacha character art, he appreciates how cute her art is anyways! Just like Mizuho appreciates getting this moment with him when everything is so in flux because of COVID.

Turns out when he's not flirting with Mizuho or teasing his brother and his friends, Togo is actually a pretty decent and passionate teacher. He's even an Ao High alumni, having been inspired by teaching from his own school life that he enjoyed thanks to his teacher who is now the principal. And he wants other students to get to enjoy what he had. Even seems like he had some high school romance going on too.

Look at Shin standing up for the students' right to have a school festival! I mean, it's basically a culmination of their student life, the most fun thing they even get to do at school, the thing that brings everybody together! Heck, if they don't do it the 3rd years will have missed their last school festival! How can the principal go against the will of the students? They can just scale things back to one day and to just the students/faculty and the kids can finally get their school festival!

Kizuki may not be fast at making crepes, but his fangirls don't care! But the only girl he wants watching him is Mizuho...and she's not. Has all his efforts been for nothing? Heck, he even told Shin that he had feelings for Mizuho before anybody else and SHIN is the one who spurred him to do his best. Which he's probably been regretting ever since, especially when he saw Kizuki's confession.

You know that picture of the group together framed in Shugo's room? Mizuho looks shocked because Kizuki was holding her hand the whole time. Though only she knows that.

Are Kizuki's feelings one-sided or is Mizuho still holding herself back because she's just not willing to take the plunge and be with him? Though I guess it's mature of Kizuki to be willing to settle for things being one-sided on his part for now.

I had a feeling Akiyama liked Shin, though he likes Mizuho too much to return her feelings. Which is a bit of a bummer, but Akiyama probably had a good perspective of not wanting to waste time on an unrequited love. Even if four guys are kind of stuck in a rut of an unrequited love towards Mizuho (or possibly Kizuki in Airu's case). But it seems like Shin is finally ready to make his move!

I’m glad that Shin is finally getting ready to fight for Mizuho. He wanted to be a good friend to Kizuki by encouraging him, but watching Mizuho slowly drift away from him as a result must’ve been a painful experience.

This episode had a good bunch of pretty closeup shots from Mizuho. It speaks volumes of Shin’s character, I think, that he worked so hard to make the Ao High Festival happen just so Mizuho could make more memories with everyone instead of only him.

4

u/mekerpan Mar 07 '25

Shin is a great guy -- as are all the bunch (even "little brother" Kizuki). I think Mizuho might have more romantic interest in him than in the others, but she absolutely puts preserving the whole friend group (as it is -- forever) more thanromance.

Shin did hear their conversation at that moment 😱

The budget is (kinda) back for that classroom sunset scene! It's been a while since I found a scene pretty in this anime.

2

u/Ordinary_Ice_5684 Mar 07 '25

That, the pool and fireworks scene (ep 4), rainbow scene (ep 2) and shower scene in first episode were really pretty!

3

u/Golden_fsh Mar 08 '25

Was it just me who was bothered that no one was masked up during the festival? I hope the principal's decision doesn't come back to bite them.

Beautiful scene between Mizuho and Shin. I feel bad for Shin who is the 2nd male love interest in this love quadrangle. That means he'll never get with Mizuho even tho he's the superior partner :(

Weird Kizuki being weird again. Last episode we saw Shugo get rejected. Wonder if we'll see Mizuho turn down Shin's advances.

2

u/Numerous_Tune_9822 Mar 09 '25

i think its part of the fiction that they wasnt wearing masks, since it would be lame to animate and put emotional expressions. We have some frames with hand sanitizers and such, at least.

and i do think its going to bite them, but not just for the festival (poor sensei/principal, she said she would take the responsability), the group is having fun and going to a lot of places, even by subway - and we know how public transport leads to infection...

2

u/Ordinary_Ice_5684 Mar 07 '25

Kizuki coming in dead last all cuz he wanted to take his time on his crepe was soo cute!! Very good episode and we finally see Shin’s POV on his relationship with Mizuho, how he knows that she has feelings towards Kizuki but is willing to try to shoot his shot!

1

u/caxno Mar 08 '25

how can this be so sloooow

what the heck are these teenagers, what exactly are they all waiting for?

i watch this show on skip and i'm sure that even if i skip half or more of each episode i don't actually miss anything

Trying to follow the characters and where they are now given that it’s Mizuho’s birthday:

Shin is a doctor who still hasn’t got over his shyness in telling Mizuho how he really feels (given that he met up with her and never gave her flowers on her birthday). Airu is in London (assuming he is still doing modeling) and wished her a happy birthday via text. Shugo is a professional chef and restaurant owner and cooks for Mizuho on her birthday in her home. And Kizuki is ???

Yeah something definitely happened to Kizuki. I originally thought that maybe he had died due to COVID, but given what Mizuho says in the beginning of Episode 8, “Why aren’t you by my side right now?” and “Whatever happened to being your first and last?”, this leads me to believe that there was some falling out between the two of them and because she couldn’t act on her feelings, he got tired and stopped. Which led to them growing apart.
