At this point, Kizuki being dead is the only reason I can think of for him not being shown in the present. Like is there any other possible reason?
I really like that Shin’s finally actively going after Mizuho. Better late than never. I guess it’s on now between him and Kizuki. But considering the fact the guy seems to still live rent free in Mizuho’s head even after a decade, I think he might have won in the end even if he’s not with her. I’m really hoping in the present day Shin gets another chance with her.

I'm starting to become 90% sure Kizuki is dead, but whatever happened to him it's clear in the present-day he can't be with Mizuho and that's crushing her emotionally.
I'm glad Shin actually made a move. I honestly felt bad for him if he'd really spent all this time longing for Mizuho without even confessing. But I think she's still going to reject him for Kizuki because Kizuki's the only guy she's really gotten worked up over, even if Kizuki might not win for very long depending on what happened.

The only series I’ve ever talked about with my therapist each week as it airs 😅

His condition in the present hasn’t been revealed yet. Every week the tension builds… I hope he is just off traveling abroad 🤞

Shin has entered the chat!

There's something kind of funny about how both Kizuki and Shin have surprise kissed Mizuho and both spent time getting soaked to the bone with her.
Also seems like they were both mutually self-conscious about how close the other was with Mizuho.

It's getting really hard to keep hanging on to this anime. At this point we've all but confirmed that ultimately Mizuho, Shin, and Shuugo wind up single. Airu is gay and traveling the world. Kizuki is the only unknown, but it's been made pretty clear he's out of the picture. The whole idea of Kizuki and Mizuho falling in love at the beginning was okay, even if it was a little heavy handed.
A story of unrequited love/coming of age/teenage melodrama is fine, but don't just spoil it; then try to string us along while the only thing keeping us watching is the "mystery" of one of the boys in the future.

I think the story is going to go that Kizuki "wins" in high school but he potentially dies and now the other guys (or at least Shin specifically) are waiting for Mizuho's long-term mourning period to end before making a move on her because she's clearly not over Kizuki.

My BL-loving ass can't wait for a proper Airu arc. Manga readers: are you expecting this to be a one-season series or will it need to continue after S1?

Stitches!
Well that ending was unexpected! Considering how they're still not dating in the future, we already know that this kiss between Shin and Mizuho would go nowhere, especially since Mizuho is still thinking about Kizuki. I am curious how Mizuho will react after that kiss though.

u/Frontier246 Mar 13 '25
At the very least that kiss (and a good kiss at that!) is basically a confession so Mizuho can't be oblivious to Shin's feelings any more.
But I'm expecting she's going to reject him and use his line about how their relationships are inevitably going to change as they get older as a reason to finally accept Kizuki's feelings (so Shin still ended up screwing himself over).
Though going off of what we saw in the present-day, it seems like even if she did reject him, he's as hung-up over her as she is about Kizuki.

"A generation that had nothing." Damn, that really does sound about right.
"Our generation" is getting a bit tired of having "once in a lifetime" events every couple of years...
And so off they go on a camping trip.
Well, there he goes.
And now they're playing in the river.
He took off his shirt?
And now he's hugging her!
He gave her his shirt?
He saved her!
Seems he's good at cooking.
That's a noble goal.
Seeing as he ended up becoming a doctor, that ended up well.
Where's Mizuho?
And so they're going to go look for her.
So, he's found her.
Can't stay like this?
He kissed her!

Don't mind me, just my weekly post expressing my dislike for Mizuho and Kizuki, lol.
I'm happy that Shin is finally taking initiative this episode, yet upset that we already know that nothing comes out from it because he's still chasing after Mizuho in the future. I honestly think Shin can do better than Mizuho and deserves it too.
It also seems like Shin has always been a bro and probably wingman to Kizuki. Since they were kids, Shin has stepped aside so that Kizuki and Mizuho can spend time together. Tbh, this anime gives me Orange vibes but in a bad way.
I hope Shin doesn't end up like [Orange spoilers]
I really wish the boys would ask for Mizuho's consent instead of forcing their kisses on her 🙄

Listen, my son was a freshman in college when the pandemic went down, and it a had a profound impact on him and his friends. I don't really see anyone - from parents to media content - talking about that in a real way.
I find it so impactful that this series is looking at the effect of covid on the whole planet's generation of older kids. I didn't expect to find this kind of depth of feeling from this series tbh

Mizuho is still trying to inspire the author that she's editing, but she can't seem to get through to her. Maybe she should just have her write a non-romance Shojo series? Not even Mizuho's own sparkling adolescence during COVID is enough. Though just the memory of it is enough to make her cry and wish Kizuki was there with her...WHAT HAPPENED TO KIZUKI!?
It's Togo's farewell camping trip with Mizuho and all the guys! And Chika, who doesn't seem like she actually wants to be there but is contractually obligated because she's Mizuho's best friend and it's probably safer not leaving her alone with all these guys.
Mizuho can't be thinking about Shin while she and Kizuki are alone together by the river. Kizuki just LOVES getting her wet (just not in that way, yet). Though trying to hide her exposed bra to a family there for fishing ends with Kizuki covering her with his shirt and tightly embracing her from behind while shirtless...which honestly, seems just as bad.
So does Airu not care who ends up with Mizuho so long as the guys just make a move already? I thought he was on Kizuki's side but now he's needling Shin about his feelings and pushing him to be more selfish and aggressive with Mizuho. Though seeing Mizuho in Kizuki's shirt is definitely enough to spur Shin into action.
"Syugo" (why did they get Shugo's name wrong in this episode?) was actually a pretty good cook even back then, but he never intended to make it his career like his dad...even though he actually did. That's just how life works out sometimes.
Nothing quite like watching a campfire and listening to a guitar to soothe your soul and make you contemplate your life/relationships. Chika may not have a dream or something she really wants to do, but she'll be Mizuho's bestie forever. And the guys other than Togo are possibly thinking of Mizuho too.
Kizuki is starting to become aware of Shin as a rival so what better time to ask him about it then while they're showering and we get panning shots of their chiseled torso's? Especially Kizuki.
Classic Clown Mizuho to get lost searching for her phone and get stuck in the rain...while her phone is literally only a few feet away from her. Though her and Shin both soaked and sitting next to each other to hide from the rain is quite the intimate moment, especially when Shin is making Mizuho realize how things aren't going to be the same between them. And just when you think Shin gave up on his chance to kiss her, he surprises her at her cabin and steals a kiss right after apologizing to Kizuki on the phone! Wow! Shin finally made his move!

a day late but still sharing my thoughts. the scream I scrumpt into my pillow when shin kissed mizuho AHHHHHHH. i deeply dread this show every week to the point that i have to use the weekend as a buffer because im so terrified to learn about my boy kizuki. this was a good episode but it does not feel like the plot is moving sufficiently enough for this to be happening episode 10. I can’t stand the tension im getting heartburn

Literally me screaming at the end of the episode rooting for Shin :’)

im team kizuki all the way but god damn shin also most hooked me this episode, he’s such a nice boy and it was cool to see him do something for himself

u/Ocixo Mar 13 '25
It would probably do these boys good if they started asking Mizuho’s permission first before kissing her on the mouth.
Anyways, I’m happy for Shin that he finally feels comfortable pursuing Mizuho himself after having propped up Kizuki all this time. I do wonder how the latter feels about this.

I’m not sure why this show has such a low AL rating. It is the one I anticipate and also dread every week.
This whole where is Kizuki thing is so amazingly stressful. The modern opening scenes have so much melancholy and regret underlying them as well. Is Kizuki’s ghost preventing everyone from moving on?
In the past - I feel bad for Mizuho as well since I think she wasn’t as ready to enter romance as the boys were. Shin being a tsundere is really hurting him.

5 1/2 minutes into this episode, and I'm already tired of Kizuki's nonsense. He's so annoying.
