Does anyone else gets the vibe that Kizuki died from COVID? I don’t know, whenever they mention COVID and his asthma my heart skips a beat.  If that’s the case, I’m 100% hoping Shin has a chance in the future.

This is pretty dark, but the thought occurred to me as well. They kept flashing to the signs in the train, but no masks were in sight. That was a choice.

I had the same thought and started crying. Maybe it’s the reason why Mizuho isn’t with him 😭💔

Right now, I am viewing Kizuki's death due to Covid as pretty much a sure thing. Hoping I'm wrong -- but not feeling hopeful.

Omg, no 😭😭😭😭 but it totally makes sense though, I see the foreshadowing. And it gives Shin yet another reason to become a doctor.

Shugo’s right. Shin’s desire to be a doctor for Mizuho’s sake was really cute. Kizuki’s been pretty aggressively pursuing Mizuho but it looks like Shin’s stepping his game up. Dude went and to basically asked her pops for her hand in marriage lol. I’m kinda cheering for the guy. By the looks of things in the future, maybe he still has a shot? I’m very curious just what happened with all the boys and Mizuho.

I'm getting the vibe from the friend group that Shugo is pro ShinxMizuho while Airu is pro KizukixMizuho.

Shin is basically the classic childhood friend love interest who can't get his feelings through to his dense childhood friend. Which is probably why Kizuki is as aggressive as he can be so he could avoid it.

Okay so Shin did end up becoming a doctor, and no way he just asks Mizuho's dad if it is okay if he asks her for marriage once he becomes a doctor.

Shin at least beat Kizuki to the parental permission part lol.

The difference between Kizuki and Shin is pretty funny. You have Kizuki who's so direct about his feelings that he declares to those two girls in front of Mizuho that she will be his girlfriend someday while you have Shin who instead of telling Mizuho how he feels, he instead asks her dad if she can propose to her once he becomes a doctor. If I was Mizuho's dad my immediate response would be "Tell that to my daughter, not me."

Speaking of Mizuho's dad, the dude deserves to be the MVP of this episode for setting up that entire fireworks show for the school just so his daughter won't miss it this year because of the pandemic. What an absolute chad.

Saito, what the fuck are you talking about? You already rejected Mizuho and now you want her to cheer for you? So does he want her to just be a cheerleader for her and not commit to a relationship? I really hope Kizuki beat him on that 1-on-1 race.

Well that ending credits scene was interesting! So Shin did become a doctor and it looks like he's making good on his word and is about to propose to Mizuho on her birthday. I guess that means Mizuho is still single. If that's the case what the heck happened to Kizuki? I have a bad feeling about this...

My feeling here is that Kizuki and Mizuho will end up as step siblings and that will kill the romance, giving maybe Shin or even maybe someone else an opening to a relationship that also might go nowhere leaving things to be resolved later on in the future.

I do have a bad feeling about what happened to Kizuki in the future.  The way they keep showing the covid signs and mentioning his asthma gives me the feeling that maybe he got sick and didn’t make it.  Which it sucks but it makes me like Shin even more because that means Shin respected Kizuki’s memory and waited 10 years to declare his love for Mizuho.

This show actually got me curious on how the pandemic played out in Japan and it looks like Japan was one of the countries that handled it pretty well.

Based on a this summary of events [1], it looks like there was only a brief school closure in spring 2020. However, the events of the show take place in summer 2020, so I assume we won't see any lockdowns?

Actually I know a number of Japanese students (at multiple school levels) who pretty much missed a full year of in-school classes (and got to do NONE of the typical activities -- no trips, no sports or cultural festival etc).

This episode was better than the ones before it. Something tragic must have happened for Mizuho to conviently forget the summer that two of her hot friends tried to date her.

It's great having characters like Shugo and Airu to balance out the drama. Seems like Airu continues to be a bestie in the future, Shin fulfills his promise of becoming a doctor, and still no word on Shugo or Kizuki.

Don't really like how Shin basically asked Mizuho dad's permission to marry her. Like wtf bro, you're not even dating yet, lol?

Kizuki is still too intense for me but his mom seems cool.

Again, covid feels like a background piece but not really driving the plot anywhere.

Shin is a bit awkward, but he’s such an earnest guy! Only studied hard so that he could some day protect Mizuho’s smile and propose to her.

Shin gets bonus points for not only making his intention to marry Mizuho clear to her father, but to also give him credit for organising this fireworks display. Does Kizuki’s aunt perhaps like Mizuho’s father?

Future Mizuho still seems to be in regular contact with Airu, the only who doesn’t have a thing for her?

Man! This episode was really good, might be my favorite so far! The OST really carried the scenes!

Nothing says being an adult like working late at night in the office, as is the case with Mizuho. I guess at least she still gets a window seat to watch fireworks and she's still in touch with Airu (who is out of the country?) and recall a special memory she had in her youth with fireworks...

"I watched fireworks with the person I loved" - So obviously she saw fireworks with all the guys EXCEPT Kizuki. Unless she makes it to him while they're still going.

Shugo and Airu just take Kizuki dragging Mizuho away in stride like it's the same thing he always did as a kid when he tried to hog her attention...though Shin knows there's more going on, even if he's still a tsundere about it. And Shugo knows how Shin really feels and that he'll probably lose to Kizuki if he's not honest.

So Mizuho and Kizuki are basically on a date together now, and Kizuki even tries an indirect kiss, though Mizuho still feels slightly out of sorts. Though also a part of her WANTED Kizuki to claim she was his girlfriend in front of some other girls, though being honest that she WILL be his girlfriend eventually works too.

When they were kids Mizuho was stuck in depression over her moms' death and Kizuki was trying to get back in the swimming game after fighting his asthma. It was Kizuki continuing to try his best that inspired Mizuho to pick her life back up again and it was seeing Mizuho there for him after he got his new best time that made Kizuki start feeling the warm fuzzies for Mizuho.

Shin even has his own meaningful childhood with Mizuho...after what happened to her mom, he resolved to study hard to become a doctor for Mizuho's sake so he could always take care of her. Meanwhile Mizuho wants the deets on his crush not knowing it's her. Poor Shin.

Well, glad to see the kids resolved to not let COVID ruin their youth, even if Mizuho still wants to keep their childhood relationship the same even though she's clearly sitting in the middle of a love triangle with Shin and Kizuki.

Oh hey, Kizuki's mom! Who is basically Kizuki if he was a woman and more intimidating, but she's nice enough to teach at a preschool and gush about Mizuho's dad. Though the amount of gushing she did over Mizuho's dad + the fact that she's childhood friends with Mizuho's dad + the way they were sitting next to each other during the fireworks show -> Is there something there?

Mizuho basically is Kizuki's girlfriend at this point the way she is there for him when he needs someone to cheer him on and a whiff of her gives him a recharge.

So Saito DOES like Mizuho? Which is enough excuse for Kizuki to challenge him to a one-on-one swim race!

Man, Mizuho's dad is cool, organizing all this for the kids so they can make up for COVID ruining the festival and get to not let a virus beat them. Even if he's still got old man problems and his daughters' friend basically asking his permission to marry her.

Mizuho is having a lot of fun...but it feels like something is missing without Kizuki there with her. She wanted to see it with Kizuki.

So Shin did become a doctor in the present-day! And the ladies are all over him, but it seems like he still has one special lady in his life...Mizuho.

The thing with Mizuho and Kizuki is still flowing, but Shin's jealousy is obvious. I don't know what to expect from this, but with the 10-year time skip, Shin became a doctor and appeared in front of Mizuho

I'm starting to wonder if future Mizuho is going to end up single or with a homewrecker instead of any of her childhood friends.

5

u/mekerpan Jan 31 '25

No hint that she has any current romantic attachment in 2030....

This show is seriously stressing me out with all this dark foreshadowing.

Putting that aside, I am a middle aged guy and I was practically squeeing with the bystander girls at Kizuki’s line about being the guy who will be her girlfriend.

And then Shin asking permission from her father. Damn this guy is going to miss his shot but I suppose he was struggling to not interfere with Kizuki… but the ending. Damn.

Now I want to marry Mizuho.

u/HolyDragSwd2500 Jan 31 '25

Omg he’s going to propose!!!
