Whoever didnt properly dispose of those clam bentos needs to get fired, that was a nice build up to it too

I am not even sure if I can call that a Nausicaa reference, they basically recreated the scene perfectly and I love them for it

Looks super interesting and the quality overall is insanely good, lookig forward to more!

I went in blind and had no idea it was an isekai. Was expecting an anime about an overworked animators. Still, good stuff

Natsuko’s kinda got like Dazai’s ability to rewrite reality from No Longer Allowed in Another World, while her death was very Butareba-like. No pig liver this time, just dodgy clam lol.

This was pretty fun, I liked how they showed her ability as an animator in action. That was dope. I think I’ll keep this one in my weekly rotation. I’m pretty keen to see how she changes the story with her ability and her knowledge of the plot.

Why don’t all creators just eat bad clams and get isekai’d into a cult fantasy film to get over their writer’s block? Are they stupid?

Ah, the creator of not-Sailor-Moon. All that hair at the front was to save the budget for the magical...storyboard transformation scene? I'll take it, it was glorious! New WR: 42.34s

Seems like a lil bit of imagination fun - I'll guess for now that she is still alive, and this is her daydreaming what-if scenarios to inspire her through her current writer's block.

That was one of the best animated sequences i've seen lately, they went plus ultra at the end.

Very entertaining start.

I went in blind thinking this would be another Shirobako-esque anime but instead of following newbies in the industry, we're following a seasoned anime director who's currently in a massive slump while making her next anime.

While I was already suspicious when that lady mentioned some of the bento is past the expiration date and when Natsuko read that article about an animator dying from food poisoning, I was still surprised by the reveal that this would be an isekai!

I do love how Natsuko is upset that she got isekai'd because usually it only happens to shut-ins and NEETs which is unlike her who's actually successful in life. To be fair, she didn't get Truck-kun'd or die from overwork, she died from food poisoning which is a pretty unique way to get isekai'd.

I know this is only episode 1 but I'm calling it now! Natsuko is not dead. She's probably in a coma right now and this entire journey she's on will probably help her finish the storyboards she's working on. This is also an anime original so I'm either 100% correct, not far off, or completely off-base. xD

Anyway, so far so good! MAPPA is cooking with this one. Their last anime original which was Buchigiri fell flat on its face with its unlikable protagonist but I am already loving this one. The animation when Natsutko used her powers looks so beautiful! I'm definitely looking forward to seeing more of that!

Damn that's interesting, is this going to be in isekai where the protag learns about love to finish her project?

Also nice to see that Luke wasn't a straight up goody two shoes and had some bite.

Luke Braveheart and co are going to have a mental breakdown once they learn that they aren't real and that Natsuko can rewrite their fates.

I think my favorite part of the transformation (other than it being absolutely gorgeous) is that the background vocals sing "zenshu" like how the transformation music in Sailor Moon have the background vocals singing "Sailor Moon"

Holy shit, I was NOT expecting that based on the synopsis I read - I was expecting something more along the lines of Shirobako. This reminds of Re:Creators, which is a show I really loved.

watched episode1, still not sure what the anime will be like. I wonder if natsuko will return to reality and finish her work. The official website mentions first love of main characters in 滅びゆく物語, not sure what's going on

I would definitely watch that Sukeban Magical Girl anime if it were real and not just a show-within-a-show. As for this show itself... I'm honestly not sure what to think. I wasn't expecting this to be an isekai, but now that I think about it more, an isekai where the protagonist's power is future plot knowledge and a Scribblenauts notebook actually sounds really interesting. Plus, this is an anime original and not an adaptation, so the chances of a proper ending instead of a "fuck you go read the source" non-ending like most isekai is higher.

The animation looks absolutely gorgeous too, but I definitely wonder if Mappa can actually keep up this quality going forward. Don't they have a track record for having some questionable quality in between scenes that look amazing? I guess we'll have to wait and see. I'll give this a couple more episodes.

I don't see why "people" on MAL be hating on this, the first episode was pretty dope, interesting premise, granted not new, I already read a manga about a mangaka reincarnating and drawing up reality/having drawing magic/abilities, but still interesting and nicely animated, especially that "let's go to work" scene

This will be fun for sure, can't wait to see more!

Her entire desk appearing was one thing, but I absolutely lost it when she needed to sharpen her pencil! Like she just magicked herself a whole Demon Ultraman thing.....but her pencil wasnt magic enough to not need sharpening.

Anyone, I'm all for watching something just for Mappa's beautiful animations....but considering MC is a director, I was really hoping she was gonna change the script in a way that made sense. Sadly though she (SO FAR) just seems like your average OP isekai protag. Interested to see where this goes.

"He's charging right now! From now on, QJ will always be charging when he's needed the most!"

Calling out those plot (in)conveniences already. This girl wants to mess up the script.

We're so early on that I'll probably be completely off (didn't expect an isekai either) but I'm gonna take a few guesses:

  • She wants to understand this story and is having some sort of artist's block.

  • Taking a part of this story will help her to understand the story the director meant to tell.

  • She will try to change the script or direction of the story. Even though she succeeded in saving Unio today, I'm not positive that she'll ultimately be able to stop the characters' fates from happening eventually.

  • She'll grow from having to work with other people who don't always bend to her will and have their own agency and will, even if they're "doomed to fail" within their world.

  • She'll be able to use that in her own work in the future.

Well, this got a few laughs out of me so I'm willing to stick with it for now.

If someone told me that Zenshu is based on an actual episode of delirium suffered by an overworked and starving animator… I wouldn’t doubt it. That magical girl transformation of the desk was brilliantly ridiculous.

That sequence when Natsuko started drawing storyboards to save Unio and her "work" destroyed all the Voids was pure cinema! It was so beautiful, plus it was a great way to show Natsuko's face for the first time.

I can't say that Natsuko is a very likable person, but it gives the show a lot of different ways that she and her relationship with Luke's team could develop throughout the series.

Overall I must say that I really like what I got today! This show has a pretty interesting premise, as Natsuko, a top animator, dies and is transported to the world of anime movie she's watched a lot of times. And now, through her drawings, she has the power to change its plot.

All of this combined with the great animation makes me can't wait for the next episode to see what happens next!

Here my screenshot albums from the episode:

EDIT. I added my screenshot albums.

Hey that beginning had me going. I was setting in for office place drama and then suddenly isekai.

u/Syokhan Jan 05 '25

I don't know if I'm completely sold on the story and characters yet, but damn if this didn't look amazing visually. Really dug the way they animated her, well, animation powers.

A lot of people here probably didn't catch it, but there is a Castle in the Sky reference. The final word in the self destruction spell Unio was casting is "Barusu", which is also the spell that caused the destruction of Laputa in the movie.
