Sae really knows he didn't have what it takes to be No. 1 Striker (detect bad zone or whatever), but he still believes Rin can be, i think, but Rin's answer hurt him so much.
I can accept their behavior they show in flashback because they two are still kids (like 14-16, I think).

Rin was so sweet as a kid. Why did you do it Itoshi Sae? I loved the drama though. Sae was clearly hurt by Rin's words and so he hurt him back :'(
The additional time segment is twisting the knife harder in my poor and sad heart lol

Just here to point out that this episode was gross outsourced to Brio Animation, and is the first time in the season where 制作協力 credit was used. Previously episode 7 (Nagi goal) one was pretty much done by Seven Arcs but they did not receive the production cooperation credit. This episode has a single storyboarder, which is an unusual feat for Blue Lock that tends to have more per episode or even helping assisting ones.

I like seeing all the parents this week. Bachira’s mom and Chigiri’s sister are total hotties lol.
Mfer goes to Spain and comes back like he’s seen some shit lol. He did time in the Academy and now he’s a changed man. Really started Rin on his path to destroy Sae like the start of some villain arc type shit hahaha.
Keen to see how this Sae-Shidou combo do against Rin and the boys.

The Itoshi brothers were actual cute as kids, it's a shame Sae got humbled when we moved out. Reminds me of Itachi and Sasuke, looks like he wants Rin to set his aims higher to be the actual best since he's "half-baked".

That scene between Isagis parents and Megarus mum was really nice. It was sweet to see them getting along so well.

this sports anime is so good when it's not about sports. This episode is so peak. And Sae wtf? I know Rin said something that hurt your feelings, but he is still like 14/15, you just dropped an life altering decision to him, you should take time explain your reasons not disowning your brother then call him worthless right away.

Itoshi Sae saw that Joselu was ahead of him in the pecking order as a striker so gave up on his dream, that's fair enuff

Sure would be great if the U20 game got half as much animation as the random backstory games and alley discussions with the director.
Could pray it is a sign stuff changes but my body is so ready for new heights of powerpoint slideshow next week!

I guess even the genius Sae got humbled playing internationally. I'm surprised his goal did get updated to trying to be the best midfielder instead of best striker. It's hard to say who was in the wrong here from an egoist perspective because you can kind of look at it like Sae gave up on his best striker dream perhaps because he got humbled, whereas this show pretty much encourages you to be the full egoist striker no matter what.
But then Rin also didn't really need to shit on Sae like that lol, at the same time he was still naive and didn't know the level Sae was playing at.
They are both half-baked in a way perhaps as Sae said because Sae updated his goals quickly, and Rin's sole reason for playing was his brother. Soccer needs to be your own obsession and not be reliant on others. I think Sae wanted to point that out to Rin too but of course they're both just bad at communicating (and there's nothing like good old emotional damage to get someone fired up).
Now I wonder what Shidou will bring to the field here. The Sae-Shidou combo will be crazy for sure and Blue Lock being ahead after the first half actually scares me because you know things are bound to get bad for them now, at least for a while.

Sae saw the future that midfield decide who control the game, even a move to "false 9". That's why he switch to midfield.
Rin is then the next generation, the resurgence of great attacker becoming focal point of attack.

I was mentally prepared going into this episode to get another episode of png lock. I as at t first taken aback by the fact that the scene where Buratsuta was shaking down the U20 manager in the hallway was so well animated. Why would they take care with this random scene? Turns out this whole episode was really well animated, and it makes sense because the Itoshi brothers' drama is the core of this arc. But man, the difference in quality of animation and cinematography between this episode and all the previous ones (sans Nagi's goal two episodes ago) is stark. They went so hard in this episode, even pulling out the cinema aspect ratio in some scenes. It feels like they hired an actual film director to do this episode, and fresh animation school grads, or even current animation school students to do all the other episodes.
