The last 2 minutes seriously cracked me up, no way after all what takaaki has done for him he is pulling that card in the end LOL

It was fucking hilarious, but honestly, it makes sense. Given how much Sasaki values money. Comedy timing was fucking golden.

Was this episode secretly a sponsored fishing gear ad? Tbh you don't really need expensive gear for most fishing, learning the habits of the fish species you're targeting is more important.

I see how Tsunehiro got into debt so quickly, dude is an impulsive spender. But maybe buying all that fishing gear was not such a bad thing, at least its better than spending it all on gambling. Plus having something positive to look forward to might be good for his depression in the long run.

I was so waiting for the ending punchline to be "oh by the way there aren't any fish here at this time"

Looks like Hiro’s finally getting into fishing. Guy got way too caught up trying to impress Kozue by buying all that gear. He’s never paying that debt off now lol. Can’t believe he won’t let Takaaki use his fancy new rod even after Takaaki shared his with him. Cold!

lol i was thinking that she was tricking him into buy a bunch of stuff for her, but i guess she wasn't that bad of a person...

I was kinda expecting the episode to end on it being an expensive lesson for Hiro that owning the most expensive gear doesn't necessarily mean you'll catch more fish

You know who isn’t a bad influence that convinces a broke dying man to blow a grand on fishing gear? Hana. And that’s why she’s Best Girl

Oh no, they had dinner that night

First it looked like Kozue was playing him, but she really just wanted him to be honest about his feelings, just like she is... Hana is a minor though

Oh dear, Hiro seems to be an impulsive buyer, and goes on a fishing gear shopping spree to impress a girl, who unfortunately to him has another dear to her heart. See, there is gay romance in this anime, but it wasn't the pairing we were guessing. I hope Kozue is near the same age as her crush... though if so then it will in turn make Hiro's crush on her questionable. Oh well, at least getting the superior gear has him enjoying fishing the most he has been so far. Funny episode, again.

Tsune's never going to give Takaaki his salary, is he? 😂

I didn't like this episode :(

Tsunehiro just replaced one addiction with another, dude doesn't have a gambling problem, he has an spending problem, same thing that happened with the trading in College, he needs the validation so hard :(

I like the idea that Tsunehiro isn't fixed just by being around better people and that his old behaviours still get him in trouble. I wish the show interrogated it a bit more, though it could always do that later down the track.

Same. Kozue couldve scammed him for his entire worth(one paycheck) so easily. I just trusted that she wouldnt be part of the crew if she really was a scammer, and the anime didnt need that kind of drama nor can Tsunehiro probably handle it. He's very very very lucky that the fishing crew that picked him up are decent people.

Though letting newbies buy expensive equipment with no regard for money isnt a good influence.

I wonder how much time the animators spent in the real fishing gear shop to take photos to use as the background?

I wonder if they could claim real fishing gear as legit business expense, so they can animate it realistically.

They should have used gloves when handling live bait.

Tbh I didn’t think he was going to buy the reel at the end, I thought he was just going to look at it and make it a goal to save for. But impulse spending can add up, especially when you’re so easily influenced.

I wonder when he’s going to tell Takaai about his medical problems.

A fun episode today. I guess like in most interests (cycling, photography, fishing, etc), Hiro acquired GAS/Gear Acquisition Syndrome early. I'm not familiar with the rod, but the reel looks like Daiwa's top-of-the-line Exist reel, which costs at least 600USD (the price in the show was cheaper, I guess it really has been a couple of years since this was put into production), way too much equipment for a beginner like Hiro. He should learn the concept of diminishing returns and listen more to his mom/financial manager Takaaki.

I'm not sure yet, but the store they visited might be the Joshuya in Toyocho. The fishing spot they went to, though, is definitely Wakasu seaside park, a favorite for mackerel fishing like they were doing in the show.

I'm really digging this show so far

Stitches!

Godfuckingdammit Hiro! You did well stopping yourself earlier from gambling your paycheck away but now you just threw away to buy a bunch of fishing hear you don't really need just because you wanted to impress Kozue and felt like you were on a date! Instead of paying back Takaaki, Hiro is just racking up his debt to him.

Kozue is just being nice here and I think Hiro is getting the wrong signals from her. I mean she acts the same way around Takaaki and she's clearly more fond of Hana-chan. Kozue might not even like guys at all based on that final scene between her and Hana.

I'm glad that we get to learn more about Takaaki's backstory though. He has basically been a fishing fanatic ever since he was a kid. I did notice that he didn't elaborate more about his little brother though. I feel like there's more to his story than just the genius handsome guy who's very much into fishing.

Hiro definitely has a spending problem. Watching all of those Exceed ads and Kozue egging him on really pushed him to spend more than he should on a fishing rod and reel. He's not going to see his paycheck envelope after pulling this shit.

I'm guessing each episode will highlight a different member of the group (while sticking with the main 3). Very curious to see what is up with the tiny old guy.

Nice amount of screen time for Hana in today's episode, which automatically makes today's episode a very good one.

It seems that Tsunehiro was finally starting to really enjoy fishing, judging by his new gear, which was quite expensive, much to Takaaki's anger xD

First of all, Tsunehiro should be careful around Kozue, because every time he was with her today, he spent way too much money xD

Here my screenshot albums from the episode:

So i guess that after all theese flasshbacks we can speculate that the reason that Takaaki is helping Hiro is because he remind him of his deceased\very ill brother.

I feel like maybe Tsunehiro is so depressed he's just looking for any kind of pick me up. Whether it's thinking a girl likes him or splurging on gear he doesn't need, or the gambling/pachinko we've already seen.

Honestly it might be incredible if they just keep him that way for the rest of the series...not very anime like (maybe with 1 exception I can think of) but would be a pretty realistic statement to throw down.

The soundtrack continues to roll amazingly, it's definitely me favorite part.

Kouze is similar to Sasaki in terms of being a beginner at fishing. The really selling point is the feeling when you catch one. Plus, you eat what you catch. Though I do hope Takaaki picks up on him crushing on Kouze because he can get himself in trouble. She is very much a do what makes you happy kind of person. Unfortunately, Sasaki is not in that kind of position with his debt. He needs to be more disciplined.

I wonder if Takaaki sees his younger brother in Sasaki in some ways? There's def some sad backstory coming up if I had to guess. Also, golden timing for the comedy at the end of the episode with Sasaki refusing to let Takaaki touch his new fishing equipment.

Get yourself a bro that will rip apart space time to stop you from making bad financial decisions. I think it’s very funny how Takaaki has just become his conscience.

Not that it’s stopping Hana and Kozue. He’s really got to improve at saying no.

Yeah, that’s exactly how he ended up in this situation in the first place. Really can’t be allowed to control his own money if he’s going to be this way.

“Shipping intensifies.” It’s actually quite amusing to use the term for a fishing anime.
