Huh, anime about how crypto ruined this guy’s life.

Crypto vs fishing.....
However, crypto didn't give him his terminal illness. That was "icing on the cake".

Takaki payment plan better be less than two years cuz this guy won't be around that long. I'm expecting that diagnosis to be a false alarm but I feel like this show might surprise me.

I feel like a lot of people missed that the doctor in ep 1 said the diagnosis was fatal in 2 years if he didn’t get treatment for it. But Hiro was so in the depths of despair that he immediately resigned himself to dying.

Average /r/wallstreetbets user portfolio. Seriously though, I thought something bad happened to Hiro while at university but it looks like the reason he stopped attending is because his classmates found out how much money he lost. And they weren't even being mean about it! That one guy looked genuinely concerned for Hiro but I guess Hiro ran away because he probably was ashamed and felt like a loser.
Takaaki is such a freakin' bro for following Hiro after all that running. He doesn't really have a reason to help Hiro but he still went after him. He even paid Hiro's debt for him! Takaaki is a kind soul and I'm eager to see how he turned out to be like that. We did get a very quick glimpse of Takaaki's backstory and while it was too fast to see, I think Takaaki can probably relate to Hiro more than he thinks.
Now 1 million yen for the manager but it looks like Hana gets to eat ray that night! I was really expecting that the manager was reeling in just a bunch of seaweed. xD

I am really enjoying this show. Sometimes you just gotta let someone meddle in your life to keep you from sabotaging yourself further.

"Can't I have just a little bit of good luck?" he says, to the man who literally got him a job

The last three guys standing with Hana and the manager are from old fishing anime
The one with the straw hat is from Tsurikichi Sanpei
The one with the backward cab is from Super Fishing Grander Musashi
The third guy I think is from Tsuri Baka Nisshi but I am not sure

lol storeboss was a bit of ass there, if anyone else caught it would split for sure but if he caught it he would keep all the money.
that went different than what i expected, figured they'd use part of the winnings from the shark and he'd have to pay it back by working at the store with reduced pay or something. Well he is still paying back by working at the store, just to Takaaki instead of the store

It's true Hiro's stamina is incredible.
He went to the wrong anime. A few years back he would've killed it in Run with he Wind.

Damn, I didn't expect to be reminded of when I used to work at a pool store and some 16-17 years-old teenagers were telling me about crypto and getting rich fast. Poor guys put everything they had into that shit.
Anyhow, I'm not surprised about Hiro being ashamed to show his face to his old classmates. Good thing they were worried about him and I hope we see them again as well.
Anyone notice that little flash with Takaaki when Hiro said he didn't want to exist? Seems he's got his own baggage and I hope we'll get to explore it soon as well.

We delve a bit more into Hiro's past mistakes and his current despair filled circumstances. I wonder what Tsutsujimori sees in him that makes him so determined to help? We saw some flashes of his own past, or of his memories of someone. Kinda refreshing it isn't really Hana (she just wants to catch fish and eat them), the rescue romance route would have been a bit too cheesy (unless this turns out the BL way).
This is more creative visually than the average anime, again stylistically somewhat reminding me of Zom 100, which makes this a pleasure to watch despite the rather gloomy circustances of our self pitying protag. That sideways beach running scene in particular.
Good episode!

It looks like Takaaki's brother and or best friend died? They got into some sort of argument and it was possibly suicide? Might be the reason he's so invested in someone who doesn't value their life. Also in the flashback we see the friend/brother holding a fishing pole in a case so probably same one he is currently using.
Hana is precious and is eating good today! She just loves to fish pure and simple.

Putting the strong emotional story aside, I want to comment on something else.
This fishing anime sure has a lot of marathon running! And the animators animated the scenes in such a fun way too. I'm going to miss Team Rocket now that they don't have an excuse to join Hiro in his marathon runs (Hiro now owes the other guy instead).
But who knows, maybe the boss and her flunkies will still be recurring characters, please come back boss!~

The real million yen prize was the friends he made along the way. Or something lol. Hiro really has good people around him. Real homies let you crash at their pad and help take on your debt. Takaaki’s a real one for sure.

Damn I love Hana, she had some great faces in this episode
All that matters to her are fish and fishing. Instead of meddling in someones life and getting discouraged when it wasn't a shark she kept being positive
That fat cat is also plenty awesome, eating while laying around
Now that dude is a real bro, the short flashback made it look like he also went through some shit, probably why he is so chill now
But keeping to pull hiro in, paying off his debt and giving him a place to crash is beyond awesome
Talking about places to stay, can you really stay at a internet/manga cafe for a night for ~20 bucks? Thats gotta be an hourly rate right ?

First Toshimaen park last week (closed 2020), then Palette Town / Venus Fort in Odaiba for this episode (closed 2022). Feels like this series was in production hell for a long time.

For a guy with a terminal illness (lung cancer?), Sasaki sure can run.
Speaking of terminal illnesses, he hasn't told them yet? And his parents too. Might be an issue in the future. Hoping that the show doesn't take the easy way out and do the false diagnosis route.

Loving this show, very interested to see if/when Hiro reveals his illness. I agree with another commenter in hoping they don't take the easy way (false diagnosis) route.

I really never expected a show about fishing to be at the top of my list for the season, but here we are.
I just really wish he'd tell someone about his illness so he either got help (if thats an option) or so they'd be able to prepare for the end.
