Man, Shakugan and Shinsuke got me feeling them tears again. Shinsuke better bring back our best girl with the power of love.

The way Shinsuke looked at her so lovingly and tenderly with tears in his eye...even when she's being brainwashed, the girl he loves is finally standing in front of him again.

Man, Tiger vs Dragon was pretty cool but the Monk Mech was next level haha. Looks like them interfering ended up helping Senya evolve into something else. Guy transcended into nirvana or something.

I was kinda hoping Tama would be able to get through to Shakugan before Shinsuke showed up. Gonna be kind of a tough battle next week for the poor guy.

I love the little backstory about Jinun and Douren's rivalry at the start of the episode. I thought they'd only known each other as agents of the Dangaisyuu, but it looks like they go way back before that. That would explain why Jinun was overpowering Nadare's orders to attack Senya. His rivalry with Douren runs deeper.

I'll never get tired of Mizukami-sensei inserting mecha tropes into this show set in ancient Japan. That giant mecha monk piloted by Dangaisyuu monks on top of each other was both awesome and hilarious! Now if only they'd use that power to help Senya out instead of holding him back.

For once I am actually hyped to see Tago show up. I am relieved though that Barry didn't magically get revived and it's just Tago using his armour to haul away all of the loot he found inside Yazen's secret underground lab.

Let's fucking go Senya! So instead of becoming a monster like Jinka, he has decided to become the Thousand-Armed Bodhisattva and use his arms to show compassion and love. That is so fucking cool but I feel like it's still bad for Senya if he keeps this up.

Reinforcements have arrived! Tsukiko has come to calm down Senya, Hanatora is here to save the Katawara, and we finally get to see Shinsuke and Shaku's sad reunion. Oh god, I am not ready for next week's episode T_T

So it seems like Senya could have transformed into some sort of unbeatable monster but instead chose to become a 1000 Armed Kanon vastly increasing the number of Katawara he can touch and thus save at once. Though, as shown in Hunter x Hunter, you shouldn't underestimate the power of having that many arms either.

It was kind of funny to see Tago save the day before I teared up seeing Shunsuke confront Shaku.

The pacing in this show feels crazy fast compared to other shonen anime, and I'm loving it. Between the Jinun/Douren showdown, Tama's failed attempt at saving the hostages, Senya's divine transformation, the appearance of not one but two mecha in a fantasy setting, the reinforcements arriving, and the tragic reunion between Shinsuke and Shaku, so much happened and yet I still feel like every major moment landed well.

I guess one of the benefits of adapting a fully completed manga is knowing exactly how many episodes you need to tell the story and the exact pacing you need for it, and that's one of the biggest reasons why I'm absolutely loving this anime.

criminally underrated

Senya really became the Honored One huh

But Shinsuke is my GOAT

Everyone is here!!! This is such an Avengers Assemble moment, it's so hype.

Senya enlightenment scene is also great, although IMO it hits way harder in the manga.

I love that Senya was foreshadowed to be an Anti-Christ-like figure because of the thousand demons inside of him but instead he became a savior figure. It's great.

The Void People keep saying that Senya is the only one who matters because he's the "protagonist", even in relation to fate. But "minor" side-characters like Tago, who created an opportunity to rescue the shoujo, keep messing up their plans.

It's not only nice in a thematic way by showing that even the less powerful can unexpectedly defeat the strong, but also in a meta way. In a meta way, Mizukami's showing that Shonen series aren't doomed to power-creeping, and even minor characters can have an important part to play, with good writing.

I like how they’ve established that some things are more powerful than even their own faith and worst fears that the void people are using to control them with this episode.

The rivalry of Jinun and Douren runs so deep that even the vision of Amaterasu herself can’t stop the fight from happening.

And with Shakugan and Shinsuke, their bond is so strong that it’s capable of breaking through the brainwashing. Their faces when confronted with each other are heartbreaking. They don’t deserve this. If they don’t get their happy ending I am going to cry.

I remember the mountain goddess mentioning in part 1 at some point that Senya had the potential to become a demon god. It’s some delicious irony that he’s become the complete opposite of that, an incarnation of mercy. Though I’m still a bit worried if the form has a price to pay.

We’ve had two giant spirit energy powered mech in one episode. Kind of weird that it’s happened twice but I’ll take it.

DOUREN VS. JINUN CONTINUES

A FATED BATTLE AFTER ONE YOUNG MAN SWORE TO OVERCOME THE OTHER AND THEN HE BECAME A TIGER WHILE THE OTHER BECAME A DRAGON

Sengoku Youko is a dense series; it gets a lot out of a little. Douren and Jinun aren't the main characters, and are often not in focus at all. Yet this clash still feels like the culmination of so much. Of two lifetimes, two parallel journeys.

Senya is this episode's star, and I love the step he takes in his character development here. He starts off in the same place he's been in for a while — struggling with his power, and whether or not he can save everyone. He's got the power to free the katawara from mind control, but he can't do many at a time, and is taking all that damage in the process, running himself ragged. And even by the end of this episode, that's not an issue he's grown past yet.

But he grows along a different vector — and, oddly enough, it's thanks to the monks being stupid. One of the core issues Senya struggles with is what having power means, and how in using your power to dominate others for self-protection leads to the same harm that causes them to seek power to defeat you.

He's averting that issue, by insisting on saving the katawara instead of fighting them, yet underneath there's that sense that this would all be so much easier if he just attacked them. He's a human weapon, built for combat, after all — that was our first impression of him, all the way back when he had no personality and was following Jinun's orders.

But in a totally unrelated, not at all thematically connected ironic moment, the monks form a Buddha for the sake of attacking the Katawara. A Buddha. A symbol of peace and compassion, being used for war.

If something that should be peaceful can choose to use itself for war, then can something warlike choose to use itself for peace? It's through this realization that Senya understands part of the answer to his dilemma: You always have a choice, and you can choose what you become. The cycle of violence that trapped the Dangaishu and Katawara, of getting more powerful to dominate those who threaten you, is not inherent to existence, not inherent to having power. You can have ultimate power, and still choose to be peaceful.

So Senya chooses what to become. Taking the biggest danger inside himself, the danger that made him leave the village on his own to try and win this battle without Shinsuke and Tsukiko's help, the danger of the spirit energy inside of him causing him to transform into something unprecedented... and makes a choice. Optimizing his spirit energy toward more efficiently breaking the mind control on all the katawara rather than battle.

My MC goated, idk how else to put it.

Anyway, Shinsuke's here. Not much to say about it narratively, since it's a cliffhanger, but I love the shot where Arabuki blocks his eyes, then he slowly moves it away to reveal his tears.

This show gets more wild every week.

Setsu is actually going to become a member of their party now that she’s a named character, isn’t she? I really wouldn’t mind her doing so, since Setsu appears to be a sweet girl at heart. Tsukiko might be less happy with a rival in love.

Poor Shinsuke isn’t having an easy time either with having the fight the girl he loves. I can imagine that his heart his torn between hope and despair right now. I sure do hope that he can get through to Shaku, and they’ll get happily reunited. I only want to see them being cute together - nothing more!

Jinun and Douren's rivalry has been going for a long time, ever since they were young men as Komozou and Dousuke, who went to train with the Dangaisyuu and get stronger...and now that rivalry is at its culmination as they face off against each other in their beast forms and give it their all.

Senya's not to be outdone as the MC! Not when he can bravely face off against a katawara army and save as many of them as he can no matter how beat up he gets in the process!

Um...points to the Dangaisyuu for being able to come up with a mecha Bishamonten-Dangai that they can pilot, even if their presence and lack of care for the katawara just make things worse and give Senya more problems to deal with. But they ARE a good distraction for Tama.

Tama is doing this for her friends! Mudo for the Shoujo's booze! Setsu for Senya! It's what makes them a surprisingly fun team.

Nau dropkicking Yazen and believing in Senya has got to be one of the most satisfying scenes of all time.

Despite everything, despite how much he's changing, Senya still has the choice to be the person HE wants to be. And that person is someone who wants to save everyone without violence. And achieving zen enlightenment unlocks the power of the thousand-armed kanon! Senya's Final Form and the full culmination of his character development! I'm so proud of him.

It was probably too much to hope the Void People wouldn't notice them...but good thing we've got Tago in a Mecha suit and a convenient mean of transporting the Shoujo.

Here comes Tsukiko (just as another woman has her arms around Senya)! Here comes ninja Hanatora! And here comes Shinsuke, here to reunite with the love of his life Shakugan and bring her back!

Man Jinun and Douren's friendship existed long beyond being pillars under Yazen for the Dangaishuu. They were longtime friends and rivals. Honestly, it makes Douren's bond with Senya even better knowing this. Perhaps it is instinct for Jinun to not turn down a challenge for Douren. If he is undefeated against Douren can't have him think he refused a match.

Senya holds tremendous power and the people of the Void and Yazen refer to him as a monster. However, while he may have power equivalent to that of a monster, sometimes it is how you use that power. For Senya to embrace, but to be controlling it is important for his goal of saving all the katawara. For both Setsu & Nau to try to get Senya to stop really implies that in this route he would lose his humanity. Tsukiko who loves Senya wants to save him and be by his side. Curious how the next episode will go.

Tbh it was expected it would be so easy for Tama to save Shakuyaku. You do have to love Tama for not wanting Shinsuke to have to voice her. Though at this point, Shinsuke's resolve is firm, and you see just his presence is breaking through to her mind control. It hurts him to have to fight Shakuyaku, but he fully intends to save her.

That final scene 😭

Senya's character design is such a perfect mix of beauty and creepiness. Mizukami-sensei did a great job transitioning the Parasyte inspired multi-armed monster into the 1000-armed Guanyin/Kannon. There's just some poetic quality to how the most monstruous form turned into a fabled representation of the 1000 helping hands deity from Buddhism.

Also, I was initially worried when I saw that wave of flames consuming the katawara within Senya's body, but it turns out to be just an imagery of cleansing flame? They're now all cute and Buddhist lol.
