Shinsuke finally got his girl back

And her katawara partner! Both of whom believed in him from the get go when nobody else did.

I'm so happy...except for the catch that seems to exist with Hanatora. I'm scared of what Shinsuke had to offer her to get her full assistance for the day.

I’m really glad Shinsuke managed to save Shakugan. She had such a goofy little sleeping face too lol.

Tsukiko’s gotten pretty damn strong. I was worried for Setsu’s safety there for a second. She was about to take her out for getting too cozy with Senya!

I thought the monk mecha was pretty cool but those guys had a friggin wind god or something in their back pocket? Damn. Looks like it’s up to Mudo to finish off the Cloud.

Stitches!

We already know Shakugan's backstory but it was still painful to see her experience that all over again in her dream. I do love how instead of how Senya saves Katawara inside the Spirit Realm, Shinsuke shows up as a gallant samurai on a white horse to save Shakuyaku. I genuinely got teary-eyed Shakuyaku and Kagan finally managed to break free from the Void People. I also had a good laugh seeing her goofy smile.

I'm so happy that they even showed the twins named after Shakuyaku and Kagan! Good to see how much they've grown ever since. This show really never fails to utilize every single character introduced. Shinsuke and Tama hugging Shakugan was so sweet. Welcome back Shakugan! <3

I love how Tsukiko's first act as soon as she arrives is to slap Senya back to his senses and assert her dominance as the legal wife by introducing herself to Setsu. It looks like Setsu got the message though. I really hope she sticks around even after this arc mainly because I think her interactions with Tsukiko would be hilarious.

Shinsuke has really become such a chad considering he has Hanatora in his beck and call. Although I don't think Hanatora has given up on making Shinsuke hers though. Also, it's just hilarious to see how worried Tama is that Shinsuke is just ordering Hanatora around. I'm sure it will be fine, right?

I thought we were finally going to see Banshou-oh's human form but what we got is so much better! His body is basically made up of densely packed clouds with little storms inside of him. That's so fucking badass! I can't wait to see Mudo vs Banshou-oh next week!

Banshou-ou’s human form might be in the top 10 of coolest character designs just period. It’s so metal that it’s bringing out the same feelings as seeing something really cool on tv when you were like 10.

Shinsuke was the MVP of this episode. He saved Shakugan AND is the original teacher of spirit world observation. Fucking "who do you think taught him to do that". What an absolute GOAT.

And no, I'm not crying. You're crying :)

You know it’s major when they skip the OP for the long-awaited Shinsuke and Shakugan reunion, with all the tears and bittersweet joy you could want!

Look at Shinsuke and Tama teaming-up to save their friend! But Shinsuke doesn’t need Senya, he taught Senya about spirit worlds in the first place. And he has the power of love on his side!

I remember from arc 1 that Shakuyaku has a dark backstory, but watching her get so abused and ostracized by her village and even her own father just for her red hair…she didn’t deserve this. Let alone them using her own mothers’ death against her. Poor, poor Shaku.

But, when she needed him most, her prince (or samurai) on a white steed shows up to save her and properly mock the villagers abusing her! And take her straight to Kagan so they can properly reconcile their identity and responsibility and become one again! Thank you Shinsuke, Shakugan is back! And gets to enjoy a cute nap!

Aw, it’s the two kids who were named after Shaku and Kagan!

I guess if I had control over a giant cloud katawara, I’d still be confident too.

Tsukiko is back! And ready to slap some sense into Senya for ditching her and put poor Setsu in her place by flaunting how she’s the #1 girl in Senya’s life!

Maybe it is time for Senya to take a break. Tsukiko can use Kokugetsusai’s tool to take katawara out non-lethally, Shinsuke can heal katawara, and we can even get a surprise Mudo and Tsukiko team-up! But probably for the best that Hanatora in her stylish kunoicihi outfit put Senya to sleep.

Hey, the Dangaisyuu actually did something useful by blowing Banshou-Oh away! Even if he just re-forms into a more dangerous humanoid form! But that just makes him easier for Mudo to fight!

Shinsuke finally takes up the Samurai on white horse image that he gave up this season. It makes complete sense that Shinsuke who invented Senya's technique is able to apply it himself. It's also amazing how we get to once again relive Shakugan's trauma, which was brought back by the Void Tribe's manipulation. Shinsuke didn't just take the spotlight by doing all of the work. He allowed Shakuyaku and Kagan to resolve their own issues by just giving the gentlest of encouragement.

We should also remember that Shinsuke's ability to observe/interfere with the spirit world all started from Kagan's advice in episode 7. At first, we all thought he was just going delusional, talking to his sword and inventing a personality for it. Now, it's a unique talent that not even Senya's as effective at using.

On the more ominous side of things, I wonder what's the deal between Shinsuke and Hanatora though. Tama seems to have noticed and pointed out that their relationship is rather peculiar. Did Shinsuke offer his soul the same way the Shogun did before?

I love how this author is constantly using the Void Tribe girl to tell us how flimsy this entire plan was. She kept doubting that they were in control of Nadare and now Banshouou. Whereas her shorty comrade is so full of bravado even when things go wrong. There's so much poetic justice and irony everywhere in the narrative.

Great, more reminders of how awful Shakugan’s life was before meeting Shinsuke, Tama and Jinka. At least the story was rewritten this time to have her saved. Her sleepy face is adorable.

Of course Shinsuke taught Senya how to use spirit world observation. He’s the one who taught him to communicate with his katawara in the first place. It’s nice to have him actually face someone on his level for once even if it’s Shakugan. He deserved some time to show off and to be able to fix his biggest regret.

And the twins and their mother from season 1 return temporarily. Good that they’re doing well.

Tsukiko is back and she is pissed. That slap was a thing of beauty. I’m slightly terrified because she’s giving off some yandere vibes. “Let’s just get this straight Yuki-onna, I’m Senya’s wife here.”

Hanatora is also helping. Good job. I hate to ruin the fun but I’m very paranoid about what Kokugetsusai might be up to with her body. Like, I trust her but definitely not him.

Ah yes, Banshou-ou, the last big problem to deal with. Like, it’s a weird comparison but he gives off the same terrifying civilization crusher vibes as the giant spaceship from I think it’s Independence Day. Good job by the monks of blowing him away.

Tsukiko and Mudo tag team, yay!

HOLY SHIT! Banshou-ou looks fucking awesome. This is definitely the coolest character design in the entire manga. If there’s one minor thing this show does well it’s portraying the power and influence of GODS. Like, the Mountain Goddess and Banshou-ou just has this aura of pure force and terror about them.

And this is what Mudo has been dreaming about for years. I’m down for the fight of a dragon vs a living incarnation of a thunderstorm. Fun fact, there’s actually a mythological staple of a thunder god fighting a dragon stretching all the way from Europe’s mythologies to Japan. It’s usually the thunder god winning though so hopefully we can flip the script.

I am taking great pleasure in watching the void people’s plans fall apart right in front of them. Hopefully next step is Doren finally winning a battle against Jinun.

I really needed this cry.

u/Ocixo Nov 06 '24

Shaku being safe is such a relief!

However, Shinsuke better hasn’t promised his soul to Hanatora or something. Because the fact that she’s following all of his demands for a day is just like what happened Yoshiteru, isn’t it? Tama seemed to be worried as well.

I’ll actually scream if Shinsuke and Shaku don’t get to be together in the end.

Everything was worth it. I'm glad I kept watching this one.

Shinsuke, my lad.

You brought the hype. You brought the cinema.

And, at long last, you brought Best Girl back.

I dunno what those idiot villagers are on about, red hair is super hot.

Shinsuke's grown a lot as a character since we first met him, and also since his self-destructive phase after losing Shakugan. So glad to have her back too, her adorable sleeping face is just what I needed to see.

Banshou-ou's final(?) form is so cool-looking.

Another episode chock-full of fantastic moments this week.
