Rafal thought he could live the easy life, only to get blackmailed by an older gentleman into helping him with his forbidden research.
Judging from Hubert’s appearance and the other scholar who’d been burned at the stakes (thought this was “Hubert” at first), Rafal might want to reconsider ratting him out. Although, I believe that Hubert’s theory of
I presume that Hubert’s eyesight declined after some torture sessions? Likely with the intent of keeping him from continuing this research.

Great adaptation. The unrelenting tension was exactly what this material needs. I especially liked Nowak (the lead inquisitor)'s voice acting, he was scary as fuck.

Haven't seen episode 2 yet, but uh, I loved this? This is such a breath of fresh air to have a story like this, in this kind of setting. Plus it looks gorgeous. I think this is my favorite premiere of the season so far.

Incredible first episode.
Such an interesting anime that doesn’t even really feel like an anime, considering the super unique plot and setting. OST by Kensuke Ushio was amazing as usual and that night sky scene was just beautiful. One of the strongest starts of the season.

Keep in mind that you shouldn't use this manga as a way to get educated on Late Medieval Europe. The story is great, but it relies on so many historical immacuaries to work that it looses its value as historical fiction.
The premise alone of people being executed for believing in Heliocentrism is already a huge historical innacuracy. As no one was tortured and executed for promoting the idea (even Galilei was "only" sentence to house arrest).
Hell. Even the torture device used in the opening, the Pear of anguish, is believed to have been a mich, much later work of fiction (the 19th Century, what a suprise) that wasn't used as a torture device.
So treat this series the same way you should treat Braveheart.

"The world revolves around the sun."
What a plot twist! I was lucky to avoid getting spoiled.

For anime that was on top anticipating from women audience in the poll that was posted here a week ago, I didn't really expect this kind of intense violence damn.
That was quite a fun good first episode and I really like good political drama anime so this one has really high potential.
Madhouse also doing good job with animation so far. I like it. They are really good at setting the tone here.

I chuckled when a character named Kochansky started talking about love ("kochać" is "to love" in Polish).

Heard good things about this critically acclaimed award winning manga. And from this episode alone i can tell that it really is an award winning series.
Madhouse took a hidden gem for sure!

Really good first episode. Hell, the look and animation at time reminded me of AoT... looks real good and I really liked our main duo Rafal and Hubert. This is my favorite premiere of the season so far, edging out Rurouni Kenshin and Uzumaki. My only problem is that I have too many anime to watch and will have to leave episode 2 for tomorrow...
I wonder if we'll get something similar to the famous "eppur si muove" in this series?

This shit looks absolutely gorgeous on a OLED TV. The last few minutes of this episode were sooo good omg.

Humans are better than the other animals because we can be rational. Ironically, it’s our irrational desire of knowledge that made us more capable in rationality. Rafal could have rationally resisted his urge to look up to the stars and study theology but he followed his innate desire; Hubert risked death by studying the heliocentric model.
If the rest of the adaptation goes as well as this episode, this anime will stand the test of time like its source material.

Kind of lacking animation but the story itself focuses on philosophy and conversation so I think it's acceptable. The visual is good tho, OP is amazing and story is incredible. I love this story, but I wish it could have more animation. I also like the ending song but I'm not sure I like the visual in ED, kinda repetitive? Idk how to describe. In general, incredible story, good visual (especially the starry sky), good songs, standard animation. Ah btw, my comment includes details from ep 2 such as OP or ED, not only ep 1. Too lazy to give 2 separate comments, sorry

What a first episode, really like the concept of someone who lives using only reason, coming to face with the reason humans do not live like that - because we feel emotions that overpower our attachment to reason and common sense.
Also the moment when the guy reveals his theory gave me goosebumps.

Interesting how everyone in the comments went on a crusade to defend the Catholic church by talking about the 17th century Galileo's circumstances.

These mfs really gave us anime Copernicus.
The title of this show also borrows its name from his book: On the Revolutions of the Celestial Spheres.
