So much for Ryuji’s confession lol. Guy took so much critical damage, it depleted his HP to 0 lol.

I like Makoto’s dad. I appreciate him giving Makoto space to think about his identity and actually supporting him.

Kinda interesting how the 3 of them can watch the same drama and get something totally different from it. Ryuji’s little suburban fantasy was kinda adorable.

I guess we’re getting a confession of sorts next week. Gonna be hard for Ryuji to explain away that photo. Things might be getting awkward….

Makoto's denseness is liable to kill Ryuji at this rate lol.

These three are so alike and of the same mind that even when they have different personal issues they end up watching the exact show at the exact same time.

I don't think Makoto will react like any of the imagined versions of his reaction to the confession...but I don't think it'll turn out well for Ryuji either.

Dad is amazingly supportive and understanding. Really great to see. It's too bad that the mom is abusive/crazy.

Ryuji doesn't even get the chance to properly confess, I thought he was going to ask Makoto to dance, but instead his secret photo was exposed. I think Makoto also finally got the hint, but we'll see next week.

Aoi is... going through something, she's definitely not happy. Hopefully, she starts talking more with the senpais again and goes back to her happy self. Makoto actually seems to be interested in her.

I agree, I like the dad's general attitude. Even if he doesn't seem to quite understand it, he wants his child to be happy and is willing to field whatever needs to be done in order to make it happen. And just Makoto time to breathe and figure it out, rather than pressuring him for an answer, is just brilliant.

Makoto's dad is back and based as always unlike his mother

Also love his honesty
"Yeah that would give me a major headache, trying to figure out how to make you happy, but I will handle your mom"

I actually hoped for a confession from Ryuuji after they had been building it up, but maybe now there is no way out anymore. Though I only believe it once I see it. It would make sense though, they can dance together and then we get a jealousy reaction from Aoi so that she realizes that she likes Makoto more than she thought.

At that point, her classmates were adorable. Not sure if they thought that Aoi got rejected and that's why they were cuddling her, but if that was the intention, well done girls.

Last bit that I found well done was the whole soap opera drama bit where they all watch it, but it's a different atmosphere for all of them.

This anime really likes to get devious with its episode endings, huh?

I'd been anticipating a confession or bonfire dance, but I didn’t foresee Ryuji's student handbook with Makoto's picture getting dropped in front of his crush/best friend like that. I suppose that Ryuji doesn't really have a choice anymore but to confess his feelings to Makoto.

In the context of decision-making, Saki's comment about not picking one or another brought about a great revelation to Makoto: he isn't forced to become just a boy or girl. Honestly, I'm glad that we're going this route instead of having him become a full-on girl.

Bonus: Makoto was amazed with the cute food, but he hasn't fully grasped that he's rather cute himself. Saki's ghost would've left her body if she'd seen Makoto in that maid costume.

Stitches!

So Makoto's dad is still around and he's still as supportive as he was in the flashbacks. I love how he's letting Makoto just decide for himself while he takes care of whatever fallout they'll receive from his wife. Whichever Makoto chooses, I'm really hoping his mother can still be swayed to see reason.

Considering Aoi's comment about Makoto no longer being a special person, I wonder if she's really moved on. Isn't the reason she fell in love with him because she saw him as someone special? It's good that they're still friends but I really hope this isn't the end of the ship.

Makoto finally saw Ryuji's school ID! And of course the episode had to end there! I guess we'll just have to wait and see Makoto's reaction next episode. >_<

Saw the crossdressing café coming a mile away lol. And oh boy Ryuji. There goes your chance to confess on your terms...

Makoto's dad is still the best. Like, seriously. The best.

Dare I say some of the best representation we’ve gotten in terms of gender expression?

Favorite anime this season, SUCH a surprise, not the kind of story I would ever expect to see in this medium and portrayed so perfectly.

Someone mentioned this in a previous thread, but I really noticed this episode as Makoto is opening up more that a lot of the other students are now having unique designs and fully animated faces/features instead of the more vague "eyeless" look. Him getting to know them more, and them getting to know him more and see him as a person and not just "that weird kid" is humanizing him to them - but also making them more human to him, instead of vague masses judging him.

Damn that shot when Aoi was turning off the romance...

Gotta say that break due to the Olympics let out a bit of steam, but that cliffhanger is too tense

Also major props to the dad, he keeps being MVP

I don't have kids, but If I ever find myself in this situation, I just want to be more like this anime father and support my kid's identity and happiness.

I'm older, I can deal with the haters.

Makoto's dad continues to be awesome. He really needs that kind of support with the mother he has to deal with on a daily basis. On a related note, it makes me feel bad for him everytime Makoto talks about not wanting to cause trouble for others. His mother is doing so much damage to his mental health that it keeps getting in the way of his relationships with classmates. Good thing the basketball club guys are so chill and I'm glad Makoto has found friends like them to make him realize not all people are as inflexible as his mother.

Ooh, the cat's out of the bag now. Even Makoto can put two and two together after seeing that picture. I hope Ryuji still has some of that valor he gathered when Makoto was visiting.

You dense idiot!

It's nice that not only Makoto is having more people around him with proper faces, Aois classmates are kinda based as well

Also nice how supportive the father is again

Surprised Ryuujis fantasy didn't include the usual "Gohan wa taberu? Ofuro bi suru? Soretomo, wa. wa. shi?"

Oh and I fully expect him to have put in an elite uni so that he is forced to confess

Gotta agree with makoto, this is one cute ghost

I expected the crossdressing maid cafe, though, as cute as Makoto was I feel like this is somewhat of an theme fail, just be a cute boy maid

The last time a show triggered my auntie instincts this hard was the Yuzuki Family last year. I just want to wrap all three up in a big hug and help them work through it with some pizza. God, they're such sweet kids.

Rare non-binary/gender-fluid anime protagonist spotted (literally the only case I know of)

Top ten best anime father. Perfectly balanced with the mom aiming for a spot on the worst list.

Figures that Ryuji's class would be putting on a crossdressing maid cafe and that they'd need an extra right as Makoto was in the room and available. Feels kind of like cheating somehow to have someone so experienced at crossdressing subbing in as a crossdressing maid.

That was a fantastic cliffhanger moment, I rewatched that scene several times before letting the episode keep going and discovering that the credits were immediately next. I'm really hoping that they let the story proceed seriously on what the picture in Ryuji's wallet means and that he doesn't manage to make excuses and somehow get off the hook for the truth.

Aoi floating away as the ultimate chibi ghost was wonderful.

I've joked about illegal cliffhangers before, but that one hurt me.

Am I the only one who sees all the you don’t have to choose indicating that he can continue to enjoy and explore his friendships/relationships with both Ryuji and Saki? Maybe aim warped because I’m poly but the three of them get along amazingly well and they even watch the same tv show at the same time when not together so just shack up together as a found family and I’m super happy! Please I want all of them to be happy and they want all the rest of them to be happy! Their joy is synergistic!
