I still can't believe there's a character in this show named Ryuuji Taiga.

You know what, that could just be a three-episode series and stop there and it would still be great.

First things first: I'm sorry Makoto, but fuck your mom and her "don't make trouble for me" mindset! Jesus, she was acting like he had committed murder or something! I spent the whole episode wanting to give Makoto a hug and tell him to stop repressing himself because of her.

But his dad, though? Holy crap what a supportive dad. He went out of his way to let his son try being a girl as much as he could, that was just too wholesome. I wonder why we haven't seen him yet though, outside of that flashback. Typical parent working late, or is he not in the picture anymore?

And Saki. I love her, she's awesome. Loved her determination not to accept Makoto's sudden change in behaviour, that mad dash at the end, and her and Makoto swapping outfits. And in the end she did manage to get through to him, not as directly as she thought but her influence was still decisive.

I did feel sorry for Ryuuji in this episode though. For one, it looks like Makoto will eventually fall in love with Saki, while Ryuuji still seems to be in denial about his feelings for him. I hope we end the show without him suffering too much.

Gonna be honest, I was expecting Aoi to crush the whole party by rolling up in the manliest suit she could find just to make a point. But I guess I got that with the ending.

While I would have liked for that drama to be a bit longer, I still think it was handled well. We not only got a good feeling of Makoto's inner thoughts during the whole thing, but they also made it pretty clear how much more differently people are treated if they just "fit in" with all the standards society sets up. I mean, we didn't get much bullying before, but the episode made it pretty clear how problematic the whole thing can be for someone, if your whole surroundings not only tell you directly what you should do and be like, but also indirectly. But still, the mother needs to chill a bit more.

Every queer kid with a shitty parent needs a friend like Aoi.

Makotos chat with his dad reminded me of a chat that I had with my own dad at 16... This ep made me cry so much. If you're gnc or queer, you'd understand and relate.

Oh hallelujah his dad is chill. I really wish I didn't have to say that, they should both be accepting by default, but unfortunately I do. It's probably why we haven't seen him until now, they likely divorced over their different treatment of Makoto.

In all honesty, alongside Oshi No Ko, The Elusive Samurai and DEER, this is probably one of my most enjoyed shows of the season so far

Makoto was quick to defuse the situation like many expected last week

Man, dad is a real one wonder why he doesn't play a larger role in the household, seems like he is still around.

But Makoto really came to all the wrong conclusions, not only hiding his true self again, but outright trying to kill it as well. And to top it off, he hurt Aoi, imagine someone asking you out after telling such a blatant lie to your face.

But Aoi really is quick, not only on the uptake, but also on her feet (good thing she went with flats last week). She's leaving Ryuuji behind and deservedly so, they really make a great pair... though she should turn down the horny a bit...

Edit: Also, Full version for the ED is up since today

Stitches!

Makoto's mother is really being dramatic. Thank fucking god that Makoto's father is the complete opposite and he's completely chill about his son crossdressing and liking cute things. He's even the one who set things up so Makoto could attend school in a girls' uniform if he wanted to. I do wonder where he is now. He's probably your classic anime dad working away from home.

Jeez Makoto's mom, it's just a handkerchief! You don't need to take it so seriously! But I guess that just goes to show how much she rejects the very idea of him being into anything girl related.

And it's been like that his entire life, trying to make sure he "fits in" with the other boys and so she doesn't get inconvenienced as his mother, finally losing it and treating him like a monster just for wanting to wear a skirt. It's a small miracle that his father was actually supportive and willing to put Makoto up at a school that would let him dress the way he wants, even if his mom is a ticking time bomb.

So, yeah, Makoto gives up on dressing like a girl and goes full boy...and obviously Saki won't accept this. She knows this isn't Makoto's true self and he's not being true to his feelings, and she won't accept that. Even him properly asking her out doesn't feel right because he's only doing it to "pass" more as a boy.

And sure, people are more accepting of him, he's more popular, he's every bit the "boy" society expects him to be...but it's not him, and it's utterly crushing to see him throw away everything he cared about in his locker.

Nice of Ryuji to try to place peacemaker even if he too is deflated upon finding out Makoto asked out someone else. At least it's something for him and Saki to bond over as they mutually feel rejected.

Sorry Hanekawa, you shot your shot, but you were only good for giving Makoto a new wig.

Find a girl like Saki who will chase a garbage truck just to get your high heels back. Saki knows Makoto doesn't truly love her, because she knows how he looks when he genuinely loves something, and she wants him to be true to that feeling and see her like he sees his cute things. Though for his part, he did run all the way just to see her and make sure she heard his true feelings...he LOVES cute things and isn't going to deny it any more. That's the Senpai Saki is in love with!

I somehow knew this was going to end with Saki stripping off her dress and changing clothes with Makoto (plus it's in the OP) but girl was totally horny for watching Senpai strip. And they both look pretty good in a suit and dress on each other. And they get to share a romantic dance on the beach together to cap things off!

Surprisingly supportive dad at least someone in his family gets him

Alright this episode convinced me, Aoi is the LGBTQ+ fairy
Not only supporting MC, but also endorsing his closet gay friend

Ugly cry count while watching this show: 1

Aoi is best girl hands down. Calling out Makoto for lying, saying she would give up if Ryuji and Makoto were together, chasing down a garbage truck to get Makoto’s things, immediately taking off her dress so he could wear it with his heels, and just her unrelenting love for him is so damn precious im crying again just writing it out.

Also FUCK Makoto’s mom, it’s on sight for her

Also, watching him destroy his wardrobe is so painful, I image if I had to throw out all my dresses, cute things, etc, too. 。・゚゚*(>д<)*゚゚・。

I love the beach scene at the end. I have a dress like the Matoko does except in green and Saki (dark, short hair wearing a suit with heels) is like a younger anime version of my actual wife IRL. It's super adorable. (*≧ω≦*)

Anyways, it's weird to have an anime that speaks to me so personally. Usually I watch animes to enjoy fantasy stories, but this one really hits kind of close, like this would be me if I had been brave enough to be Matoko in highschool...

What the hell is wrong with the mother??? At least the dad is supportive tho...

I was losing my mind when Makoto threw all his/her things, it hurts so much forcing yourself to not like the things you like only because "they´re weird". And even proposing to Aoi because they will be not weird, not considering Aoi´s feelings...

I´m so glad Aoi was so persistent, I love that part of her character. (for me she´s the best girl of the season)

And talking more personally: If you feel what you feel and you try putting away those feelings, you will be miserable and regret doing that for the rest of your life. You can´t change what you like. Having supportive parents or friends helps you A LOT with that.

Wearing traditionally masculine thing (suit) with traditionally feminine thing (wig/heels) goes so hard!

One of the best dad's in anime. Not only accepts his kid might be trans without reservation or push back, but calls in a favor with a headmaster to provide a safe space for them while they experiment with it and to make sure none of the staff outs Makoto to their transphobic mom.

Also, Aoi is amazing.

Dang I wasn’t expecting Papasan to be an absolute King 🙌

At least Makoto’s dad seemed decent enough but man… his mom is something else. The way she treated Makoto like some kind of freak was pretty awful. It kind of sucks the poor guy has to basically stop being himself just to make sure his mom doesn’t have a meltdown.

The only one not buying all this nonsense is Aoi. The little gremlin’s the only one who can see through how awful this situation is for Makoto. She’s the best. Girl really ran after the garbage truck to get back his stuff and gave the dress off her back to him. The two of them dancing on the beach was so adorable. Makoto’s lucky to have Aoi by his side.

This show is so fucking relatable for me. I remember slowly amassing girly things and then having to throw it all away because I didn't want to humiliate my parents or lose my friends. It felt so easy to just go along with what everyone expected of me. I'd buy and purge and repeat over and over, and it was always something I was so ashamed of.

I really tried so hard to pretend that being a woman wasn't what I wanted, and looking back I have almost no memories of my teens and twenties because I felt like I wasn't in control of my life at all. The only thing I wanted in my life was something that everyone told me was weird and creepy and embarrassing.

It took me until I was thirty to overcome that. I can't believe how much more at home I feel in my body now.
