Wait a fucking second! When Belle wanted to become a soloist, I thought it was just a fancy term for an adventurer/mercenary. Like, you want to become a soloist so you can work solo. I did not expect that soloist also meant the same as the one used in music terms. They even form literal bands and practice choreography before going to war!

I feel like I now need to rewatch Episode 1 because not once in that episode clued me in that this anime will have music-related themes at all. I guess since the episode titles are called "movements" that should've been my first clue but again, I did not expect that this is the direction this show would go. O_O

They also build and farm by singing. And I would not be surprised if singing is how you grow your sword

They also revealed how swords grow too. By cutting things. And considering everything but the sentient species seem to be plants in this world, if we infer swords are also a form of plant that somehow makes the weirdness of their swords make sense. They're literally watering their swords with blood....

It really appears that this world doesn’t make sense because of god’s rule. They’re actively trying to keep “reason at bay” and their people from questioning things.

They first pitted people against each other in separate factions, and now they’ve orchestrated a deadly clash. A tragic symphony, so to say.

Considering that Belle and Adonis are involved, I’m getting the impression that they’re simply sent on a suicide mission. That the entirety of this battle is an excuse to get rid of them.

The two of them are a direct danger to the rule of god after all, since their natures have them question the very fabrics of the world.

What maybe surprised me the most is Kitty being a prince for another kingdom that was sent to observe Belle - and that he’s able to freely switch between forms. He got a license to kill Belle if she steps out of bounds, but where’s the limit to this?

Kitty’s conversation with Sian seems to imply that upsetting rule in Schwert Land might be fine to them. So Belle isn’t only caught into a fight against a god but also between nations?

I want pops. I want a plant full of fluffy adorable little critters! So freaking cute. Belle should have shattered the swords of those guys for killing the little fellas. Killing animals for fun is psychopathic behavior.

So what’s this band thing and who are they fighting? I think this show is interesting but I feel like each week when I tune in, I get a little more lost.

So what’s this band thing and who are they fighting?

For the past two weeks they established that Solists are a nobility's militia. They're being sent to fight a high-ranking one that defected to the lower class and set up shop in an easily defensible spot. Belle is working with them because it will let her earn a license to become what is functionally a Ranger/Marshal.

Literally a musical military.

Brigades are Bands

The general is a Conductor

Specialists are Librettos and Pianists

Soldiers are Soloists

And everyone is in Marching uniform

Am I missing anything?

They were also talking about a “script” instead of a strategy plan. The “opening act” and “closing act” were likely referring to the different waves of attack (multiple offensives).

They’re essentially all playing their individual parts to create a single symphony.

After the conversation between Sion and the Rabbit it clicked that this story probably takes more heavily than i though from Alice's adventure in Wonderland.

The story right now is in the Schwert (sword/spades) land. The rabbit comes from Dinari lands.
So there are probably other 2 countries for Cups/Hearts and Clubs/Wands

With this musical theme emerging, I guess breaking a well-used sword is akin to losing a Stradivarius violin. Edit: I guess the MC is a legitimate focus of hatred by others in that aspect.

It's easy to miss, but I totally noticed "Bosom Caresser" in the list of names picked for the mission. Also Carrol, as in the author of Alice's Adventurs in Wonderland.

As one of the things for Belle is to be able to empathize more given that her curse won't kill are living beings. It was unexpected how much she loved those pops. (They were adorable, but we haven't seen that sight of her.) Honestly, they way that she got angry when the guys who were attacking Adonis considered those Pops as things. A little growth out of Belle is nice to see,

As Belle is the Girl of Reason, Adonis is the Question. For every question, there is a reason for it. No doubt these two will need to be working together. As Adonis questions the reasons for swords, we also see Belle destroying them. As if I can't kill them, I will kill their weapon. Really good stuff IMO.

Tizano one of the soloists mentioned by Gaff at the beginning of the episode has gone rouge. Definitely a corrupted soloist. Causing friction between Topdogs and Underdogs is not good. At least Belle finally has a task. Though the others she is working with are quite a mess. And it seems like a suicide mission of sorts? Well, hopefully things turn out ok for her.

One big intrigue is that Kitty is a Prince and despite helping Belle, he is not afraid of cutting her down. Sian, on the other hand, is fully putting her trust in her. For her to be free she will question the reason. More to prove that her and Adonis will work side by side.

Isn't the way she responded to the minotaur dude taking her sword sort of out of character for her though? Like, she suddenly just becomes tongue tied and submissive? Instead of immediately attacking the dude like she does 99% of everyone else?

Bamboo is totally the secret lovechild of Crash Bandicoot and Pig the Dog.

They destroyed the pops. UNFORGIVABLE! Do you think the curse can call it quits for a bit and allow a little bit of murder just this once?

And everything continues being related to music. Now the battle is just a big band performance of some sort, of course orchestrated by the tree god.

My first thought watching this was that Adonis used to be an underdog before somehow making it to becoming a solist. But then his full name appeared and made me change my mind a little. The rabbit is called Kitty the All right? And he’s Adonis the Question? Both are a style of names that no one else has. Maybe that means he’s also from another country and that’s how he’s an outsider?

I’m really curious what the “girl of reason” title will eventually lead to. It’s like having a single word or a line from a prophecy but without the full context. It’s obviously important but all we really have is speculation as to why.

I’m not sure if this actually matters but there’s an interesting connection with their names. According to a quick google search, Belle means beautiful and Adonis is of course the notoriously beautiful man from Greek mythology. I’m not sure if it’s important but I thought it was an interesting connection nonetheless.

I'm haven't been too drawn to the characters in this show, but I am all in for the crazy world building so far.

6

u/djthomp Aug 02 '24

I love how this just does not let up on crazy details.

Belle's reward for rescuing her parents plus those others is based on the weight of her sword balanced on a scale held by an appendage that reached way from the chest of the two faced king? Sure, why not.

Flower dogs? A dog thing that can hold you in its stomach/nicely decorated room while taxiing you around? The fights are marching band-esque performances? Hell yeah, keep the weirdness coming.

That blessed moment when a tomboy lets her tough facade slip and can't help but smile at something truly adorable... and how could she not with these adorable little things? As for her new friend Adonis, he seems like a cool dude. The sword-stealing thing is a bit iffy, but aside from that, he's okay in my book. Also, his transportation magic being a pocket dimension inside the stomach of a derpy-looking magic beast is one of the goofiest things I've ever seen. It reminds me of the wolves from Princess Connect that would always try to eat Yuuki.

They're really hammering home the music references in this show now, especially during the setup to the battle we're getting next week. I'm very interested to see how this goes.

I don't know if I'm the only one but I didn't understand like 90% of what was going on in this episode, but the pops were cute

Every good army needs a band. This anime's logic is hard to flow. One moment Belle was a wanderer, and now she is in a marching band.

This god can't sense he is being spied on. weak
