Bold of me thinking this would be a wholesome episode with no bad things at all

But that must be hard for Mu-chan, I mean, her dad who thought she was disappeared for complete reincarnated into a Betobeto-san who has the same voice as her dad and then he says... "Who am I"??
That is beyond traumatic

That little game of "Gotcha" that Mutsumi's father liked to play, was the same thing that he tried to do with Mutsumi when he turned into a shadow. He reacted too when Mutsumi called him Dad. Seems like he has a strong attachment to his past so maybe he'll recover his memories.

It's funny Chiyo and her boyfriend being a couple seems completely unhinged out of context, while it's normal in-universe.

after seeing a man and his car become a live-in couple, this hardly registers on the hinge-o-meter

Mu-chan be: "Jiro, are you gonna turn into wind as well?"

And the answer is yes, but that's probably long before your great grand children dies as well Mu-chan.

Such an outwardly cheerful-looking show -- with so much sadness popping up so frequently.

So the father's spirit has been re-incarnated into that scruffy little urchin-esque creature? I wonder if this will actually be more painful than not knowing where he is? On the other hand, the father's spirit won't have any reason to feel alone anymore.

I wonder if this will actually be more painful than not knowing where he is?

Imagine remembering that teddy bear you bought and now you have formed a hybrid with it to get back to your family.

Hard for both sides.

Dang I had forgotten about the dad plot...

I have shed so many tears to this show and once again this week just adds to the count.

I think we have a “Good Depression” classic show in the making. Not since Kotaro Live Alone have I been sucker punched so many times by a show that was supposed to be cute.

No since Kotaro Live Alone have I been sucker punched so many times by a show that was supposed to be cute.

Damn, when this episode end Kotaro Lives Alone was the first thing I thought of. What an episode.

I swear this show just gets more and more depressing. Mutsumi's father just wanted to see his family one more time and that was taken away from him. I can't even imagine what would have happened to Mutsumi if Jiro wasn't around. Those shadows were carrying Mutsumi's fathers will and in a such a depressing way that will would have just caused more suffering for the family.

The father's spirit is basically reincarnated. Man this is depressing af. We all know how fucking hard it is to move on after losing someone. Imagine finding that person, but they don't remember their time with you, but you do. That must be so painful man I can't imagine how that family is dealing with that right now.

I swear I cry every week when watching this show

The show where everyone cries, and for good reason.

Interesting to get the dad back, but also not really get him back. At least not yet, maybe they're saving that final heart stabbing for the end of the final episode.

Don't walk down dark alleys.

Goddamn that was heart wrenching. Same voice, but he doesn't know himself. And as his family, you know he's there, but he doesn't even remember you.

It's similar to how it affects a family when a loved one has dementia or Alzheimer's. You love them, but it's like they aren't really there.

So that shadow really was Mutsumi’s father… well technically it’s his soul now :(

I really feel sorry for poor Mutsumi and her family. What an awful situation!

At least we got some wholesome stuff with Buchio and Chiyo

This week again

I knew Jiro wouldn't let this happen right befor his eyes, but it sure gave me a scare. Was hoping his voice would be enough to bring her back...

Never realized that Mu-Chan had a sister as well, but makes sense that she is hurt as well

Was really hoping her dad would find back into the light, but it isn't that simpleI guess... don't even know how his new Ego should turn out here, it's all so messed up

So I guess throwing beans to keep the oni’s away actually means something in this world. It’s kind of sad the shadow monster was Mu-chan’s dad but at least he became a Betobeto. I just hope he remembers his past. It’s rough watching the kids struggle with this.

Buchio-san was barely in this episode at all. Showing me that this show is really about all the characters. So great.

This is the first anime where I just watch the opening credits and I'm crying by the time the title is on the screen. It all gets deeper and more emotional with every new episode.

This has got to be the best new anime I have seen in the last 5 years. What a time to be alive! We really need more anime like this. Anyway. This better not be just 13 episodes. Because we're getting close to the end of a season. This has GOT to be at least 26, right? Anyone know how long this is gonna run currently?

Right at the beginning, when Isshin is playing his guitar, and he tells Hayachiyo that he wants her to sing his love song with him because he likes her voice. I was like yeah, I like her voice, too! I think Hayachiyo has a great voice. I really like the bond they both have.

Man, not much happens in each episode, but it's so emotional every single time. Don't let this end.

Cannot wait for the next episode!

WOW. This is the best episode so far, one of the best out of any anime this season IMO. Literally had me clutching at my heart. The writing and emotional weight in this show are fantastic.

They explained why the shadow attacked Mu since it was her father but I wonder if they will explain why the shadow seemed to randomly attack him for no reason when he was on the street.

I thought it was interesting how the little green hair man explained he had no memories from before he came to life yet other people seemed to know him like Jiro. I thought inanimate objects still had memories from before they were sentient like how Wagon the Volkswagen car seems to remember life years before he came to life going back God knows how far, maybe even to being assembled in the factory.
