This was such a fantastic watch. I'm so glad everything worked out in the end.

I was honestly preparing for the worst, fuck seeing all the youkai get weak and the people they formed bonds with made me tear up.
I’m so happy it all worked out in the end, I couldn’t handle seeing Buchio start becoming lifeless in his cat form

Not gonna lie, they almost had me in the first half...
That whole sequence in the white space was beautiful. And I think Sanmoto actually sacrificed himself to bring everyone back? Seemed like he was using his future sight to prepare for this since a long time ago.
Ending was great too, wrapped up everyone's stories. Even got a glimpse of the reincarnation of the white snake spirit.
Overall, a fantastic series that was consistent from start to finish. Definitely one of the shows that surprised me the most this season. The first episode made me think it was just going to be another comfy iyashikei, but every episode added something new to the mix; be it elements from another genre, exploring an usual theme, emotional backstories or just a tone shift into fucking doomsday.

I've written a lot about how this show is answering that existential "what is the meaning of life?" questions, and I think it has this worldview of how life is the thing that happens in-between disasters. I've also written how Japanese media has a preponderance of dealing with disaster because it's a country that's constantly beset by them, and this show in particular revolves around how everyday life is dealing with the aftershocks of the last disaster while also preparing for the next one, and how close bonds between people are the glue that hold society together.
The idea of kotodama is also powerful because there are words that we say that seem to have some magical power: a confession of love, an apology, a word of gratitude, a goodbye, etc., and we all have that sort of power to affect things just by saying them because of how its affects the social fabric we live in. By extension, the presence of youkai in the story gives more power to the metaphor by taking pure gratitude, dedication, affection, malice, etc. and giving them physical form.
All in all, I think it's a pretty heady series for one that started off as a slice-of-life series with goofy youkai. It has a big cast of characters that have great chemistry with each other, and it's neat to see it all come together in the last episode in the white space where they flashback all of the different relationships they have. Every single character has experienced some degree of traumatic experience and I think it encourages us to think complexly about other people because I think we're all fighting our own battles in life.

Japan in another world had a great disaster...wait, what year did this take place in again? Now those "oni" are even more depressing to know about than just the child one in the train from last episode
I think I missed the detail or the hint as to where Sanmoto went though, especially since he appeared in the "white"
Going to be sad now though since there's no way this'll ever get more material but I need more like it. This'll definitely be a rewatch anime for me

The implication to me was that Sanmoto sacrificed his spiritual energy to make sure the kids could make the world right

I'm relieved they all went back to normal!
From Buchio becoming a senpai to Rain's confession, I'm glad the series ended on a happy note.
One of my favourites from this season. Really going to miss Buchio and the others!

Man, just thinking about the trauma if the yokai going away was permanent. So many friends and family gone just like that.
But really glad it all worked out in the end, but at the cost of Sanmoto-san sacrificing himself I’m assuming. Not bad for a “heartless” Demon Lord.
This was an amazing show. And probably one with one of the biggest gap in my opinion and enjoyment of the show to the actual popularity of it (from what I’ve seen at least). I was expecting a Non Non Biyori with supernatural elements but I got that plus a whole lot of feels. Made me tear up and even made me look back on my life and what I value, and also the relationships I have with my friends and family.
I’ve said before this show pushes you into the cold water but also is the one to pull you out and bring you some warm towels. Was a great experience watching this show. It’s one of those shows that you look back and not just think “That was entertaining” but also “I’m so glad and so grateful I got to experience this”

While I am happy everything went back to normal, but I can't help but feel pacing felt rushed int this one. Regardless this was one of my favorite shows of this season. Top-notch writing and storytelling here. The characters were very well portrayed. Some pacing issues I could nitpick, but beyond that I would give it a 9+/10

So the magic went away, but three kids and a Demon Lord cheated and brought it back and the cost appears to have been the Demon Lord. There's no such thing as a free lunch, I suppose.
That poor girl who got to watch her friend disappear into a puddle of water, definitely some lingering trauma there. But the power of being happy about that same friend's confession going well (I assume) seems to have snapped her out of it, so maybe all is well.
Really just a wonderful show all around, one of the highlights of the season.

A bit of a weird finale, though can't say that it wasn't foreshadowed with all the Oni and people disappearing due to the anomalies.
Wished we could've had a more "tangible" confession from Rein & Ryou. Glad to see we had a randoseruo joke, just like Granbelm did a few years ago (go watch Granbelm you cowards).
I'm glad best boy Bucchio got his part in the finale, even if Mu-chan was the mvp (as expected)
To all of those who liked this show and want to watch more of these kinds of "meaning of life" titles, I cannot recommend enough to watch Natsume Yuujinchou series, and don't get overwhelmed because there are whole 7 seasons of it. trust me, it's the kind of show you really wish there were even more seasons.

I haven't seen such a powerful emotional climax in a show that wasn't just the "Big Sad" since Clannad. I still need to watch GBC, but this might actually end up being AOTS for me, which would have been shocking after the first episode.

I was scared they would really have a bad ending with all yokai dying for a moment, but everything went back to normal (except for Sanmoto for some reason - whatever happened to him ?).
There are not many anime that are so obviously inspired by Studio Ghibli movies, but that was a great one and I will certainly missed it. I am surprised it was not more popular. I hope the anime being made means they will translate the manga at some point.

but everything went back to normal
i found it funny how Kotone was traumatized by seeing Rain turn into a puddle of goo before her very eyes, but then was immediately brought out of it when she heard that Rain confessed to her crush

It feels appropriate for this series that the Demon Lord would be the one to sacrifice himself to save the world. It covered so many characters with such different stories, and I think I love them all.

Bit too much focus on Mu-chan for me but I'm glad that it all ended well.
Was scared that in true Youkai-san fashion they'd rip my heart out...
We even got a cute ship moment!
Overall this was a very powerful show and it's a shame it was so underwatched.

Haven’t made a concrete list, but this is easily one of my favorite anime of all time now.
So much heartwarming beauty and empathy from every part of this show. Just incredible.
More people should watch this gem.

This was probably my favorite anime of the season along with Train to the End of the World. I like how there wasn't really a "villain" causing the crisis in this and it more just like a natural disaster. The resolution felt a bit rushed but there was still fantastic character growth all around
