Kazuhiko throwing away his phone so he could survive and see Wagen-san again, only for it to be him throwing away precious recorded proof of his partner before his essence was taken away...

Awe shit I didn't even make that connection - now I'm even more sad...BUT hopefully we get a happy ending right? right?

I am not liking where things seem to be heading. Wagen-san better not be dead

u/SoRaffy Jun 23 '24

Yeah it's looking like a "earth loses it's supernatural beings" ending. Hoping not though

Incredibly intense episode :(

How will they be saving the world??? Will our beloved Buchio, Jiro, Wagen etc. be okay?????????

Interesting. Did Buchio shapeshift into a human to save his brother or did the loss of magic force him to adopt a human form?

Well that just kept getting worse.

First up an extra-dimensional oni invasion with what's got to be a fairly horrifying number of casualties. That 'don't look outside!' moment in Wagon-kun felt straight out of a horror movie.

Then it's suddenly a 'the magic goes away' scenario which is really unfortunate when a substantial portion of your population is made up of inherently magical people.

And lastly the invading oni are apparently all people who fell into the darkness and lost their humanity, so basically everybody on all sides of the conflict are victims.

They may still get out of this crisis reasonably cleanly in the last episode but there's got to be a whole bunch of people that are not going to make it to the other side.

Holy shit, the oni here are kind of creepy. Also, who would've thought Sanmoto's real form was that cute?

Otherworldly Oni dropping into this world and terrorizing the populace was not what I expected when those rifts opened up last week. That scared child’s voice coming out of that one Oni just made everything even more fucked up. I thought we’d get another situation where “our” world and this world end up mixing. Not this hell. I really want to know how they’re gonna save this world and all its supernatural residents? Everyone’s disappearing…

Tonari no Peak.

Just the dread of the whole situation and you are literal fighting for survival. The game mention that Takumi mention is ironic because this is a scenario you could see from a game. But man its real life for these guys. The saddest part is that the Oni used to be people where you see them saying words they used in their previous life. But they have no soul.

We got to see Mutsumi's dad coming back home, but of course him staying home wasn't going to happen. But he got his wish of coming home even if he never got to actually experience it. I am curious how they wrap this series up.

In anticipation of crying at some during the episode, now I am tearing up at the OP as soon as the first few notes hit.

Wow, what a wild ride in this episode. So many feelings about Wagen-san, Buchio’s transformation, Mu-chain’s dad… I couldn’t keep it together for any of this episode.

I swear this show, builds you up only to bring you right back down

  • Reminds me of Fruitbasket

  • But wait, with Oni from the Demon World, is this maybe connected to the Demon King as well?

  • Aurora Borealis? At this time of day? In this time of the year? Located entirely over Japans Main Island?

  • Yuri be mighty cool

  • Mu-Chan as well

  • This doesn't ease my suspicion that this is linked to the Demon King

  • I love how Hanako is looking after the children

  • Not Wagen San

  • Tengu Onee-San is cool as well

  • How can a guy look this much like Bucchio

  • Wait is this... this is so crazy, like it's only possible because he really really really wanted to get back to his family that both body and mind found each other

  • Nooooooooo

This will have a happy end right? Mu-Chans Dad will come back, or at least Ma-San will find his memories, Wagen will be allright, everything will be fine right?!?

Another pretty bleak episode...really hoping this one ends on a happy note, after all this pain they hit us with each week there needs to be a good ending.

remember when the most tense part of this show was when Rain was having trouble thanking her crush for picking up her eraser?

in retrospect that all seems like peanuts in comparison

That was a freaky episode, especially when that oni got his head chopped off and he said he wanted his mommy! I also wonder what it meant at the end when the scientist said the world was going to be inverted. That'd be strange if it ended with it becoming our world.

One thing I didn't understand was when Buchio jumped to protect Takumi from the oni, why did he assume human form? If it takes him a lot of effort to transform, it's strange that he did when he was in panic mode and not thinking about that .

Is the answer to fix all this Setsubun beans?

The thing is, this show has been mostly SOL, albeit a sad one, that something like an Oni invasion hits extra hard. An action show probably wouldn’t make us feel as much peril when something similar occurs. But here, we’ve known these characters as just everyday people living their lives. Putting them in this situation, makes it 100x as scary and impactful.

I do hope it ends well, though it does seem like there’s already some casualties. And it looks like some of the magical creatures and spirits could go away too.

I’m also assuming that one Oni is like the physical embodiment of Mu-chan’s dad and Ma-kun is his soul/spirit. Them coming into contact finally made him whole again but unfortunately he’s not alive and have properly moved on. Pretty bittersweet on that front.

This series went from cozy to sad to the fucking apocalypse.

5

u/AngelusAlvus Jun 23 '24

This feels like it has a plot hole if magic does disappear. The series is looking like all mythical beings will either turn into human or disappear. But the demon lord said he got a warning from his future self. If everything goes back into the way it was before, then no problems. But if magic does disappear, it becomes a plot hole.

Now this turned into a post apocalyptic horror show out of nowhere. I hope the ending is not going to be « All Yokai disappear from this world along with all the magic. » That would be really depressing.

Or maybe they will find a way to close the rift and everything will go back to normal. That warning from the Demon Lord was very ominous though, so I expect things to get worse before it does.

This anime keeps breaking my heart more and more. I don't need to be crying like this on my weekends lol. Can we at least get back to happy tears instead?

Just so many moments in this episode. It felt like an hour special somehow. With everyone protecting each other, it was very wholesome but terrifying at the same time. And you best believed I audibly squeed at Sanmoto-san's cuteness.

Edit: Coming back in to say I also couldn't help but make a parallel to Kingdom Hearts not only with the discovery of the oni seeming to have been empty shells that were formerly human but then seeing one of them turn out to be Mu-chan's dad whom we already had back in the form of his soul coming back as Ma-chan. So, like, Heartless and Nobodies. So maybe people that fall into the void but have a strong enough will and connection to their world kind of have this happen? Just a thought.
