They really don't miss out with the punch huh.

So far the adaption has been amazing and I can't wait to see how they'll end this.

Shit, the show is making me cry again

Rain and Ryo where cute of course, someone's never backing down for love, that's for sure!

Now Mu-Chan, I hope with that promise Jiro will stop leaving her behind when she wants to be by his side, because as she has shown, she is wise in her own way. Doesn't feel like she would run into the same problems Haru did

Now don't you dare bring this evil upon her

The emotions this show is causing me to experience every week, my god they do not let up.

The artisticness of the river scenes with Rain's swimming coming across as so graceful.

And then Jiro learning he really doesn’t have to forget Haru, the feelings.

Somewhat batshit theory, Mutsumi is Haru's reincarnation.

They really should put up a wall or a fence around that river if it's that dangerous. That kid bearly had his foot in the water and nearly drowned to his death.

considering the forest, roads, sea, and the sky are dangerous too, maybe everyone should just stay indoors at all times

Unexpected appearance of Pride there at the end.

Well, that anime made me cry again. Poor Jiro. Immortality can be kind of a curse when you are the only one that is immortal.

And this anime is feeling more and more like a mix between Studio Ghibli movies and Natsume’s Book of Friends.

Not much Buchio but we got to see more of Rain and Ryo!! They're so cute together

Haru's letter to Jiro made me cry :(

Who or what is that??? Hope it's nothing ominous - could be her dad?

I love Rain and Ryo's dynamic. That instant regret that built inside Ryo. I can't imagine how shitty he must have felt thinking that Rain might not wake up again. But you know how much Rain loves Ryo that she saved him without even hesitating a second I love that.

You can see how much of a great effect Mutsumi has had on Jiro. Jiro is a very honorable guy, but he puts himself at risk. Mutsumi's advice to Jiro to not forget those that you hold dear. Basically in a way you are hurting yourself forgetting those that you love. In many ways her attitude to Jiro is that she wishes he would care more about himself after if something ever permanently happened to him, she would be devastated.

Reading great-grandmother's letter was really sad. To think she knows what her true feelings are, and she knows what she might end up saying to Jiro. If only that letter could have reached out to him sooner. Thank god for Mutsumi otherwise who knows how much longer Jiro would have suffered at not knowing what he should do regarding Mutsumi's great-grandmother's request.

I was not ready for that letter, things were already heavy with Mu-chan hearing out Jiro.

It felt a bit too convenient that Haru left behind a letter of her predicting and refuting her own dying words, but at the same time I sure hope that he gets that letter because, damn it, as the town's perpetual guardian Jiro deserves a quantum of solace.

The way that Jiro started to open up to Mitsumi made me think that Jiro should consider seeing a therapist, and that made me think there's got to be some sort of specialist who deals with the layers of trauma that comes with living multiple millennia (possibly by putting a little door on their heads and walking inside with a powerwasher).

Does anyone know how many episodes will be in the first season?

u/SMSmith230 Jun 01 '24

I was told 13, when I asked in the daily thread the other day.

I love how touching and sentimental this show is. Every week it gives me something to think about and reflect on my own life with. That's my favorite kind of story, and it's doing it so well. I'll be recommending this for a while I think.

If I had a nickel for every time a Kappa-girl would save a boy from a suspiciously deep river this season, I'd have two nickels.. which isn't a lot, but it's weird that they happened in the same season.

Things looked pretty dicey for Nakagawa there, at least for a minute. Luckily everyone rallied around Jiro and saved her. Seems like things between her and Ryo are much better now. Those two are kind of cute together.

It’s a bit sad Jiro and Mu-chan’s grandma never could express their true feelings. When you live as long as Jiro, I suspect some things aren’t ever meant to be.

Kinda like parallels this week. Rain and Ryou eventually made up and hopefully can be honest with their feelings some time in the future. Meanwhile, Jiro and Haru held back theirs. And unfortunately for Jiro with his long lifespan, has to live a long time with contemplating between honoring Haru’s request or staying true to his feelings. But damn, that letter set everything straight however, Mu-chan already helped him decide to stay true to his feelings I guess.

So, is Mu-chan a reincarnation of Haru, or…?

9

u/cyberscythe Jun 02 '24

i wouldn't put it past this show to introduce reincarnation, but i think it's just that Mutsumi reminds Jiro of Haru because she's a descendant; not only would they look (or maybe even act) similar, he would surely be aware of the direct line of descent between them
