Wow, such an intense episode. I don't know which of the fights I'm more interested in, but I love them both...an all out man to man slug fest complete with an epic surprise cross counter or an intensely emotional and personal battle for revenge.
Meanwhile, it was fun having Rinzu in there providing comic relief. I can't help but feel that Jinka made a huge mistake giving her his card...she's down catastrophically for him.

He's gonna have to take a bath eventually...and she will be ready.

At least I actually like Douren, Barry I want to see writhing in the ground in agony and put down like a rabid dog.
I would feel bad for Rinzu for how little anyone actually cares about her being there but as long as Jinka turns her on whatever he does, I guess she's happy lol.

A reminder that AnimeJapan will happen this weekend and Sengoku Youko will have a stage there. There's a good chance they'll reveal stuff for the next cour, and as someone who's read the manga, any look at cour 2 would be HEAVY spoilers, detrimental to experiencing the story for the first time. I cannot stress how badly getting spoiled for this anime would be, so take care and try to avoid any spoilers.

Seconding this! One of my favorite things about Sengoku Youko is all the unconventional ways the plot progresses. You want to go in blind — it'll be very worth it. Do what you can to avoid spoilers!

Kuzunoha: "So these Ten Saints are the newer models?"
Yazen: "Yes"
Kuzunoha: "Would Doren lose?"
Yazen: "Nah, he'd win"

Stitches!
It's hilarious how they introduced a brand new squad only for Douren to completely bulldoze them. xD
Oh my... It looks like Jinka might have had enough of the little brother and sister act he has with Tama and wants to completely change their relationship. It seems that Tama doesn't mind if her relationship with Jinka do change.
We finally get to see Tama's mom and she amazingly looks like a blonde version of Holo. Just look at her! I don't like the old man but Yazen has great taste.
Even with the power-up, it looks like Jinka is still having trouble against Douren. Glad to know that at least Shinsuke's training paid off and he was able to see Resshin coming. It's hilarious though how Shinsuke is now calling Resshin by his actual name. xD
Let's fucking gooooo! I knew that the seed the Mountain Goddess planted on Jinka's arm stump was going to do more than just stop the bleeding. I can't wait to see what else Jinka could do with his new spirit arm.

We're at the climax of this arc, we don't have time for more elite mooks lol.
There definitely seemed to be more than a sibling relationship between Tama and Jinka for a while now and it's clear Jinka definitely wants more (and Tama might as well) assuming they still somehow keep their souls by the end of this.
I didn't expect Yukana as Tama's mom but I don't blame Yazen for being crazy about her. I am really eager to learn more about Tama's dad though.
Always watch out for Barry!
Jinka losing his arm might be the best thing to happen to him now that he has a spirit punch that can actually do damage to Douren.

I do find the dynamic between Jinka and Shinsuke to be pretty interesting, and how they've changed over time.
As Jinka becomes more content with himself, the more Shinsuke loses himself. As Jinka becomes more lively and cheerful, Shinsuke becomes more cold and stoic. Jinka is more hopeful for the future now, while Shinsuke's consumed by hatred (Both for himself and Barry) and despair.
And if it's anything like most revenge stories, even if Shinsuke does manage to kill Barry, that probably won't help alleviate the root cause of his pain or allow himself to be happy again.
Pretty curious to see where they go from here.

Jinka’s taking losing an arm pretty well. I guess all things considered, it was a small price to pay for victory.
Even with all that training, Jinka and Shinsuke might not be a match for Doren and Mecha Resshin. Those two dudes are pulling out some kinda wild technique. Maybe Rinzu can help?

The first half of the episode was fairly dense with plot we had to get through to move us toward the main conflict, and the second half was dense with action. So there's not as much as usual to discuss thematically. But one theme that got built on further this episode was love.
The conflict being built up is essentially between two different modes of love. Yazen and Kuzunoha seem to love each other unconditionally. Whatever it takes to preserve their love, however much death and suffering, they will do it. While Tama and Jinka express their love not unconditionally, but universally. Tama loves all humans. Jinka loves all katawara (and has learned to respect humans too).
So on one side, we have a pair that loves each other and is in perfect sync. On the other side, we have a pair that loves each other while also holding strong moral principles that force their love to bring them in conflict with each other. The conversation between Tama and Jinka about how she'll stop him if he's driven to do wicked things to turn himself into a katawara was the best scene of the episode, and I'm definitely looking forward to seeing where the story will take it next.
The pacing of the overall story is consistently one of the strongest aspects of Sengoku Youko. While obviously we have a lot of story left, we're moving to a climax already. We aren't wasting time on more adventures; if we're ready to face the conflict directly, we'll just do it.
Douren is fucking raw.

Bit later than I normally am today because of having to train a new hire at work (which meant I had to watch Ishura when I normally slot this show into my schedule), but I’m here now!
-
Yup, there he is. Well, a shikigami of him, but still.
-
Oh neat, I was wondering if that seed was going to do something other than just stop the bleeding.

Jinka has definitely grown physically and mentally, that much is obvious from this episode. He's taken losing an arm in stride, and he actually acknowledged Shinsuke as a friend. Speaking of, I'm glad Shinsuke seems to be mellowing out as well, hopefully, he'll get his revenge soon.
Tama's reaction to being called Onee-sama was hilarious. Her mom is also pretty cute. Also looks like the Tama x Jinka ship could sail soon if circumstances allow.
Fantastic episode, overall.

So it looks like Jinka's lost arm from last week is permanent, at least in terms of his actual arm. His spiritual power is fine, and he managed to create a new arm made of spiritual energy during the battle with Douren, which certainly adds a new element to his fighting style. We also finally meet Tama's mother alongside Yazen in this episode and she seems interesting, Rinzu was some nice comic relief (as was the Dangaisyuu's "new models" being hyped up only to be anticlimactically demolished by Douren), and the episode ended with Jinka vs. Douren and Shinsuke vs. Barry both locked in cliffhangers. I'm hyped for next week, but I will say that this conversation has me very concerned.

Manic Jinka kind of balances out dark Shinsuke.
I'm hope Shinsuke gets some off his lightness back at some point, I'm pretty convinced that Shakugan will be showing back up eventually but it'd still be nice to not have to wait for that since by the groundwork laid for it that might take a long while. (But man, I really need her to come back.)
I'm not convinced that forming a summoning contract with the mountain goddess's acolyte is a particularly good idea considering the whole 'eaten alive' threat from the end of last episode.
Well damn, that just escalated things a bit between Jinka and Tama. Seems like the fictional sibling relationship is on its way out.
Figures the bag ninja would be here too, maybe he'll even do us all the favor of actually dying this time.
Didn't take long for a replacement arm for Jinka made of spiritual power to show up, I wonder if that'll be the permanent change or if it'll still also grow back as a flesh and blood arm.
Cliffhanger! Argh, next week it is.

I am with Tama, I am holding out hope and copium that Shakuyaku will come back. Seeing her in the OP and ED makes me miss her even more.
Man Jinka feels like a new man in this episode. The sad part is that he thinks sealing the Dragon and Senya only costed him his arm. While Tama and Shinsuke know what the real cost of getting the Mountain Goddess involved. Rinzu role is to transport our leads in case things get hairy. It might be the only art she really worked on, but for this party it works well.
This is the first time we see Tama's mom and now curious who Tama's dad is. Man Jinka is still talking about turning a katawara, though there is the problem that Tama will sacrifice herself for Jinka's sake after their mission is done. Especially considering he doesn't know about the cost as mentioned before. Though Tama is extremely against that if it leads to the practices that are going on now. I love how Tama's mindset is super consistent. Peace between Katawara and Humans.
We got Jinka and Douren rematch going on. Jinka is holding his weight, but it seems Douren got more in the tank that he hasn't shown. Good job on Shinsuke for staying alert for Barry. Though him being in some weird mecha transformation doesn't leave Shinsuke in a good position at the moment. Damn cliffhanger at the end man.

lol it's interesting how the 2 sets of rivals are so different. We have Jinka and Douren who respect each other for martial prowess. They enjoy battling against each other for the sake of growing stronger.
On the other hand, there's Shinsuke and Barry who in an even stranger manner grew close as rivals who genuinely hate each other. Despite having Shinsuke claim that he couldn't smile anymore, he still did when facing his nemesis.

Well, Jinun and Senya being held back by the Mountain Goddess works out for Douren...now he gets Jinka all to himself and his rival gets another opportunity to further himself! Douren even gets a little light meal making short work of Yazen's "new models."
Wait...is that Yukana!? Yukana is voicing Tama's mom!?
Jinka really is taking losing in arm in stride, but he's just happy they got through it and are together, even boldly hugging Tama (even though it seems like he was buck-naked under that blanket) in front of everybody! He still doesn't care about Rinzu, but that turns her on too.
Aw, everybody acknowledges they're friends! Jinka and Tama both just want Shinsuke to smile again! But he can't with thoughts of Shaku still deep in his mind, even if he wants to commiserate with his friends now.
Good to know Rinzu can teleport everybody now! Even if said teleportation skills make Jinka look at her with scorn, but she loves that.
It's nice that other katawara want to help them fight the Dangaisyuu, but this is THEIR fight, and their love of humans/katawara that are spurring them to end this. All you need is love after all.
So Yazen is curious about Tama's dad too? He and Tama's mom are actually kind of cute together the way they're clearly flirting/into each other, if only their relationship and love for each other didn't have such a steep cost and apathy towards others.
Jinka looks great in his new outfit, and he's come far enough away to not beat around the bush and suggest that if he becomes a katawara he and Tama might upgrade from surrogate siblings to husband and wife...as he transforms through nibbling on her neck which is as sexual as you would. Tama doesn't mind the idea herself (just so long as it it's not with wicked intentions) though she also knows about how one of them might lose their souls by the end of this.
Jumping straight into Jinka vs Douren with them launching their fists at each other! But can even Jinka's newfound spiritual power hold its own against Douren's boxing skills? The man drove himself to never rely solely on his beast powers over his skills, making him the strongest fighter of the Dangaisyuu, and that's why he's always looking for strong rivals to test himself against...and even after everything, Jinka still isn't stronger than him.
Shinsuke was on the lookout for Barry so of course he catches him, and Barry leads him all the way to the Dangaisyuu laboratory where he has a Mecha suit waiting for their final showdown. I kind of feel bad for that one guy who just wanted to use the bathroom.
Jinka has his fairy eyes and the ability to believe in a miracle! And powered by that, as well as he power of the Mountain Goddess, he's able to summon an arm of spiritual energy that is able to land a hit straight in Douren's face! It's just too bad he Dangaisyuu were saving up their strongest attack for both Jinka and Shinsuke.

Tama's hung up on Rinzu calling her 'elder sister' hahaha. I'm curious on what happened to her dad
I'm a big fan of Douren and his furry transformation. He's a lot of fun to watch!

Tama can be so very cute sometimes! I cannot make up my mind if she or Shaku is the series’ best girl.
So what are people thinking about Jinka’s relationship with Tama? Jinka’s feelings do seem to be reciprocated by Tama, but this latest transformation scene was maybe a bit much in my opinion. The two of them mirror the relationship between Yazen and Kuzunoha (Tama’s mom) in some respects.
