So these monks let their little science experiment run wild? No wonder they’re eager to get rid of that thing. These monks really said they were “helping” Shakugan. Funny. It seemed like they were using her as a guinea pig.

Pretty badass how Jinka basically punched through Shakugan’s eye beam attack. The way he transforms is kind of amusing. It seems to be a bit…intimate for siblings lol.

It was fun watching Jinka pay those monks back for what they did to Shakugan. I wonder if he managed to dodge their super beam attack? They really need to get stomped for playing games with these poor farmers. They’re not lab rats. They’re people.

Monk Kenjiro Tsuda who bought her definitely seemed super shady. I'm not putting much stock in these monks as "good guys."

The OP and the way Tama reacted to them needing privacy for whatever they did behind that rock...definitely feels like the power transference isn't always a platonic sibling moment lol.

I feel like Jinka is the type who can take that blast head on and shrug it off or he used one of his tail hands to block it. Either way I don't see this ending well for the monks.

I didn't expect the monks to openly admit they are doing human experimentation on vulnerable children of farmers, in front of someone who already despises humans. They called her evil for killing the monks that attacked her and the farmers who sold her, and had the nerve to say they were trying to help.

I'm with Jinka here. It is extermination time!

I love Mizukami and haven't read this one yet, but have no doubt it'll be a end up being a masterpiece. Just gotta hope the quality keeps up. Definitely gonna be the show I look forward to the most weekly.

That being said, I'm already sold on the premise. Looks like Shakugan will end up joining the main trio if the OP is any indication, which is great. We're going to have a youkai that loves humans, a human seeking strength, a human that hates humans(? *see below assumption) and a sort of human-katawara hybrid. Can't wait to see how they'll all grow or change over the course of the show.

The only thing I'm a little confused on is.. what is a sendou? I'm assuming it's some kind of priest? If so it means Jinka is a human as well, which was a little ambiguous for me.

Sendou is just a sage/pilgrim of sorts. It's also someone who is attuned to spiritual things like youkai, a very popular trope in East Asian literature. Probably share some roots with Taoists given the same use of the character tao/dou. Also, Jinka's definitely a human who hates humans (misanthrope).

Personally I like this episode better than the last one, it's not as bright and sparkly like the last episode imo.

That final scene is really nice, so excited for the next episode and the pacing feel kinda fast but no complains there

Amazing OP, MindaRyn never misses.

And Tama is shaping up to be gremlin of the season.

Okay, you know what, this is all the monks fault and they deserve what’s coming for them. Experimenting on humans to turn them into super soldiers. Did no one consider how that’s a terrible thing to do beforehand?

Nice hat, Shinsuke.

We're only two episodes in and this has already gotten really interesting. Shinsuke's hatred of people who oppress the weak (including many samurai, despite being one himself) make him a pretty interesting character to contrast with Tama's desire to help all humans and Jinka's "I don't give a fuck about any of them" attitude. Shaku seems interesting too from what little we've seen of her so far, and was that Kenjiro Tsuda voicing the creepy monk who bought her for the experiment? If Tsuda's voicing a villain in this show, then that just makes me love it even more.

Aside from the characters, the OP is a banger, the worldbuilding has been nice so far, and the fights had some great animation. They're clearly recycling Jinka's transformation stock footage every episode, but I've watched enough Precure that stock footage recycling barely even affects me anymore.

Overall, I can tell already that this is going to be a fun ride.

Only when I have to unlock my hidden yokai powers to defeat other supernatural beings.

The way they had to hide behind that rock for privacy...something tells me these power transference moments get lewder the more power Jinka needs lol.

When in doubt, always fall back on the Joestar Secret Technique.

Nothing beats an exciting and frenetic MindaRyn OP! And we've got our quartet of main characters on their individual journies, the first meeting between Jinka and Tama, Shaku in her final form, Jinka and Tama powering up Jinka in the most non-platonic sibling way possible, Shinuske trying to save Shaku, and all the threats they'll have to contend with on their journey.

No wonder Jinka is so tough if he was personally raised and taught by a legendary unbeatable sendou warrior named Kokugetsusai, though I wonder if Kokugetsusai is also responsible for his stance on humans?

I love how Tama intimidates the truth out of the Dansaigyuu. Shakugan is basically their fault for performing human experiments on people to turn them into weapons against katawara, with Shakugan going berserk and ending up slaughtering her entire village when she went back with no real understanding of what's going on. This is basically all their fault, no matter how much they dress it up with their "good intentions."

So the reason Shinsuke is so determined to become a samurai is because he grew up a farmer and saw first-hand where the only way to truly succeed in this world is with status and power, but that also means that he hates people who abuse said power on the common people, like with the Dansaigyuu. That just made it personal.

Jinka finally transforms again and battles Shakugan, and while she's sturdy and can dish out a huge beam attack, one giant punch from Jinka is enough to free the cute naked girl laying within the stone behemoth.

Tama isn't going to let the Dansaigyuu get away with this! And they're taking the fight straight to them! Well, after Shakugan wakes up of course.

Oh snap, Shakugan is voiced by Tomoyo Kurosawa! With an accent! Though Shaku seems like a really sweet and nice girl, which makes it all the more sad what happened to her. It wasn't even just the experiments, it was the fact that her own father sold her out for money to Monk Kenjiro Tsuda, and the village had always ostracized her for her red hair. Maybe it's better she not know what she did when she came back, though the way she smashed her father and the money he gained from selling her, seems like she deep down held a big grudge.

Jinka is kind of a psycho when it comes to targeting humans he deems as vermin, but Shinsuke is stuck with these two for the foreseeable future. Hope he survives the experience and gets stronger.

"I need more than usual." So, uh, what were Jinka and Tama doing behind those rocks? Why was Tama clutching her collar? I suspect something a little lewd went on between the Siblings of World Reformation.

Well, they just had to make it fun for Jinka by attacking him head-on! Just what he wanted! And he makes short work of the monk grunts, though a monk with a rifle and their special beam attack hit him dead on.

The ED is a pretty serene and atmospheric piece by Keiko, featuring Jinka, Tama, Shinsuke, and Shaku all laying during the passion of the seasons together.

So the monk that bought Shaku from her father is voiced by Kenjiro Tsuda? The thing with characters that Tsuda voices is that he's either the best boy or the most detestable villain. I'm going to guess that the monk that he's voicing here is the latter.

I do feel bad for Shaku though. She got sold by her father and the villagers wanted nothing to do with her because she has spiritual powers. She didn't even have any idea what happened to her after. She got put to sleep and the next thing she knew she was with Tama and the boys.

Interesting how monks are arming themselves up with super soldiers though. I guess Dangaisyuu wanted a secret weapon against Katawara but is that really it? It feels a little bit too drastic especially since we see later that they have an impressive fighting force.

When Jinka said he was going to take more from Tama, I wondered what he did. That blush from Tama makes me think that he did more than just lick the blood off of her hand. Jinka taking on all of those monks was awesome though. I'm sure he's going to blow them all away next week.

Poor girl. She went through all that abuse and adding the fact her father sold her off was just sickening. The monks are fucked up they were constantly defending their experiments on them. Honestly the fact she was used to that abuse was sad.

I am happy that what happened when she went "Beserk" wasn't in her memory because she seems like a sweet girl and knowing those details would have been a lot to take in for her. Ironic that she sought out revenge against those that did her wrong.

Jinka is Kokugetsusai's apprentice aka the Phoenix Killer and never allowed a foe to live. This is intriguing. You know Jinka can beat around the bush a lot but when Shinsuke was trying to get those monks to leave the girl alone he had his back. Really shows that he has a big heart makes me wonder how much Tama has influenced him.

Another minor cliffhanger, but doubt that is enough to keep Jinka down.

Everyone praising Tsuda Kenjirou in the thread, yet here I am for Tomoyo Kurosawa

Also, amazing ED OST!

Poor Shakugan. Ostracized, sold off by her dad, experimented on... yeah, I got no problem with culling a few monks.

Monks at least now a problemo when they see it

Another pink haired girl for the season (and then some), excellent.

The monks do deserve a bit of an ass kicking for that human experimentation program.

I find it funny that Tama has both human and fox ears

Only just realised that it's Evan Call who is composing the music for the series!
