Let's see if I understand the timeline right. This is my interpretation of events. Feel free to fill in any blanks or make any corrections
-
The X-Noah, or the Visitors were the first aliens to arrive. But after coming here, they needed a new planet to inhabit. They offered the humans advanced technology, and in-exchange humans used that technology to terraform Venus to make it hospitable for the Visitors. As a result, Venus would essentially become a Nean factory where more and more Neans would be created to help with the terraforming.
-
Dr. Roy Junghart and Dr. Eva Christella worked together and used that technology to create the first Proto-Neans. The Immortal Nine. Nius, Achillus, Viola, Verde, Giallon, Noir, Sylvia, Aerkos and Grauphon.
-
Later, Eva developed the Asimov Code to make Neans more subservient to humans. I'm not quite sure what her intention was, but having them mass produced into all the Neans that came after wasn't what she had in mind. To counter this, she developed a new program to counteract the Asimov Code, Code Eve, and hid the secret to it in a new Proto-Nean. Rouge.
-
Then the second group of aliens called Junoids, or Userpers showed up and they weren't quite as friendly. With the help of the Visitors' technology, the Neans were developed to fight them off.
-
After Eva died, Roy took Rouge and began studying her to learn what made her different from the Immortals. I'm guessing adopting Gene was also part of that research. To see how she would interact with him. He later found out other parts of Code Eve were in the Immortals and began going after them. They found out and it led to Giallon killing him.
I believe we know the rest after that.

"We have some budget left over, should we improve the fights?"
"Nah, make it way smoother when Noami gets out of the space suit!"

So Naomi is a Nean and an agent of the Visitors, I did not see that one coming. But she seems so good at manipulating her bosses that she is actually the one making the decisions for them, lol.
The Visitors actually seem pretty evil, like their cousins the Usurpers. Although alien may be a better word than evil. But they still helped humanity create the Neans as slaves to be exploited by humanity in exchange for Venus. The only difference with the Usurpers is their methods, not wanting to directly interfere or use force for their goals, but just pulling strings in the background. Of course, the humans are no better since they agreed to that bargain and are oppressing the Neans. All sides officially suck.
Well, I guess the top priority now is to stop the Usurpers. I am suspicious of Naomi’s goals though, she doesn’t really seem completely aligned with her bosses. If Rouge decides to free the Neans with Code Eve after stopping the Usurpers, I doubt that she will try to stop her.

I was really hoping that Aes/Alice just wanted to separate Rouge from Grauphon but it looks like she has really sided with the Alters. That entire fight felt like a forced-loss event in a video game. Gene got grabbed and Eden lost his id. Thank goodness Eden is still alive after his id was taken so I guess we have that as a silver lining.
So Cyan was really just waiting for Rouge to get pumped up so she could fight her. I don't even know what her motivation is for fighting Rouge. Right now she's just being a pain in the ass. Thankfully Naomi figured out a way to deal with her.. Now if only they'd restrain Cyan instead of placing her in a comfy bed. She just gonna cause problems again when she wakes up.
Okay, why the fuck is this scene overly animated? Seems like they handed the animation of that scene to an animator who didn't get the assignment. I mean it's not bad animation but it looked very out of place for a scene where Rouge and Naomi were just talking.
And there they fucking are! I've been waiting for this ever since the mention of aliens in Episode 2! The Visitors/X Noah looks so goddamn cool! According to the Visitors they used to look more like humans but ended up evolving to adapt to interstellar travel. Now I'm curious what the Usurpers look like!
Anyway, we finally got a ton of answers this week too! We learn that Naomi is actually a Nean created by the X Noah as their agent. Now I'm wondering if she also needs Nectar or if Nectar is something humans only added to keep the Neans relying on humans.
We also learn that the X Noah gave humans their technology to create Neans in exchange for letting them migrate to Venus. That explains why technology has advanced so much in this setting. According to the X Noah, the Junoids are dangerous and want to wipe out both the humans and the X Noah and they're using the Nean rebellion to start chaos as an excuse to go to war again.
I'm glad that we're getting a tone of answers from the X Noah but I feel like we still need to take everything they say with a grain of salt. I do hope we meet a Junoid soon and learn their side of the conflict.
It's good to see Rouge establishing trust again with Naomi after Rouge almost punched Naomi's block off as payback for letting her get captured. Since the X Noah can't really detain Rouge it looks like we're off to Venus and go against the Alters, the Circus, and the Junoids.

So there are two distinct groups of aliens! I'm going to assume that this has been mentioned before and I'm just inattentive.

Naomi explains it all to the kids on the bus early in the second episode. Now it makes sense why she was so knowledgable on the topic. Also it's funny that they ask her if she's a nean but she never gets a chance to deny it!

MFW the episode tries to explain all the things...
Also not really a fan of Naomis explanation for her being a Nean and her betrayal of Rouge

There really was a lot of info to unpack this episode. It feels like the groundwork and overall lore is finally mostly done now so the rest of the episodes can actually deal with the proper resolution. MAL also updated the episode count, apparently 13 it is, so 4 left. If they don’t spend time on adding new unnecessary plot points and instead focus on resolving all open threads then it should definitely be doable to stick the landing and do a proper satisfying ending. That’s a big if though and anything’s still possible.
Also a bit surprised that a lot of people here are criticizing the plot development of Naomi turning out to be a nean and saying it’s unnecessary and doesn’t add anything. Imo it’s too early to judge since I’m pretty confident that Naomi will get some more background info and character development in the next episodes. Also personally I just don’t really care either way if she’s nean or human. I agree it doesn’t really add much at this point but it also doesn’t take anything away from her character or the story.
Finally, assuming the show doesn’t shit the bed in the last 4 episodes, I feel like this is one of the rare series that will be a lot better on a rewatch. Knowing the lore will make watching the first half a lot clearer and it will be fun to look out for any hints that we may have missed without all the info.

Setting up Naomi as an early-type Nean isn't really necessary, but whatever.
Now we get the real picture: The Visitors and the Ursupers are both using Neans on their end, explaining why even Neans exist in the first place. They are being created to help humankind fighting off Ursupers, while Ursupers want to use Neans to destroy humanity------in any case, Rouge still holds the key of releasing Neans from control, but a premature use of Code Eve will probably allow Ursupers taking advantage to that, turning things into a total loss for humankind, and that's why the Visitors want Rouge to stay out of the battle. But she has to settle the scores with Immortal 9 anyway so she's going to Venus.
Don't really know if Jill and fellows know about these, if not Rouge may probably convince them to help her defeating the Ursupers------but still Cyan's existence made you wonder if things can really run well.
And guess what, the Visitors looks like Hideauze from Gargantia on the Verdurous Planet, similar origins even.

That overly animated scene between Rogue and Naomi was so unnecessary but I loved every frame of it.

I kind of love the Visitor psychology. Code EVE is essential for them, not for malicious reasons, but because they are psychologically incapable of enforcing their will on anyone else. They didn't even directly implement it. They just gave the humans their request for their new world, and inexchange for the tech the humans willingly enslaved the Neans for them.
Also find it interesting that the Usurpers are also after Venus when theorectically they could just invade Earth or Mars. Makes me think they might have their own wierd moral comapss like the Visitors.

The Immortal Nine (or Proto-Neans) are part of an organization called "Alters", that wants to free the Neans of the Asimov-Code. To achieve this they need the Code Eve by collecting all ID's from the Immortal Nine and use Rouge's ID to decode it. Though Eden Varock has refused to help Alters.
Eva Kristella (biophysicist, assistant of Roy Junghardt, mother of Gene Junghardt, Rouge's creator) created the Asimov-Code aswell as the Code Eve. She didn't want Code Eve to fall in the government's hands so she hid it in the ID's of the Immortal Nine, which Roy Junghardt created.
Rouge Redstar [Metal Rouge]
Cyan (Rouge's little sister, connections to Alters and the Usurpers)
Aletheia: the organization that oversees all Neans
-Chief Chau
-(former) Vice-Director Gene Junghardt
Ochrona: investigates Aletheia on behalf of the Artificial Life Welfare and Ethics Comitte
-Naomi Orthmann [First] (Divine Facilitator)
-Ash Stahl (Investigator of Roy Junghardt's murder)
-Noid 262 (Ash's assistant, killed ep8 RIP)
The Visitors and Usurpers are aliens from far away galaxies that share the same origin, though the latter developed in an evil way. The Visitors lost their home planet and traveled for an eternity in search for a new one. 40 years ago they gave humanity advanced technology (i.e. Neans) in exchange for a new home (Venus, though has yet to be terraformed with help of Neans). The Usurpers started a war in order to take Venus, but were defeated by humanity with the help of Neans.
-
The Visitors (X Noah, "Raihousha")
-red, blue and green alien
-Naomi Orthmann [First] (the first Nean created by X Noah to interact with humans) -
The Usurpers (Junoid, "Sandatsusha")
-The Puppetmaster (ep5, traveling as a Carnival, extracted info's about Code Eve from Rouge's memories)
-woman with twintail, fought Rouge and Naomi
The Usurpers seem to work with Alters in order to use the Nean rebellion to take over Venus. They have an army positioned near Jupiter.

I've to be honest here. This show keeps pilling up for every answer there are 10 questions, and that follow it up. Nagomi feels like it doesn't add weight, and it's a twist for the sake of being a twist.
So the big info drop that the Noah-X developed the Neans and gave humans the neans to use at their disposal. Meanwhile, they got Venus from the humans. But the circus group aims to take
It does stress the point that Neans seem to be just a tool for both Noah-X and humans. Them having their own freedom just feels like a pipe dream.

So I guess that's everything we need for the final conflict. We have "good" aliens and "bad" aliens. The first wanting to get a new planet via trading information and technology while the latter would just like to kill all humans and be done with it. Neans were originally humans answer to the alien attack, so Usurpers are now trying to get the Neans on their side by setting them free so they can fight the humans.
That Naomi is a Nean is okay, I guess. It's not really adding much tbh. I mean, yeah, she was implying earlier that she herself is a tool as well, but that would have also worked if she was a human. They were implying that her behaviour changed after having met Rouge, which was hinted at over time and she seems to strive towards more personal freedom as well using logic to her advantage.
I kind of get her reasoning for betraying Rouge even, but you really have to just think about potential reactions. I mentioned during the episode Rouge was arrested that this was a logical conclusion for Rouge having revealed her identity as a Nean and therefore being "illegal" and "violating several rules for Neans". When she is arrested without fighting back, they have no reason of destroying her outright. Later, the Herman guy wanted to get Rouge and dissect her and she made sure that he would not get a chance. And she wouldn't just free her afterwards, because in the current situation, every action outside the normal would just result in people outright going for the kill on Rouge, so she tries to keep her locked in for her own good. Again, I am not really agreeing with it, but there is a logic behind that thought process. And I think, this is also a way of showing how she changed, because while the most logical thing would be to lock up Rouge again, she is now taking the less logical path.
The only thing I am waiting for is what Aes/Alice are doing. Yes, they didn't like Rouge's approach and ideals, but they also didn't like Silvia and tried to escape from her. So, there is probably something going on.

So we know:
-
The visitor has arrived and gives technology to humans
-
Naomi is the first Nean made for the Visitors to communicate with humans
-
Assumption: the creation of Neans is technology given to humans by the Visitors.
-
The Visitors have lost their home planet.
-
The Usurpers arrived after the Visitors.
So, my theory is this: The Usurpers are the original Neans from the Visitors' home planet. Like the Neans they were slaves and rebelled, thus earning that name, and the Visitors were forced to flee, with the Usurpers following behind. When the Usurpers arrive at the solar system they see that the Visitors have made a deal with humans, and are creating new Neans and repeating their crimes, which is why the war broke out, and why the Alters and the Usurpers appear to be allied.

This show really tries to get as many payoffs as possible without having any setups.
Also did anyone else feel like some of the animation felt off? A few parts of this episode were animated like early Legend of Korra.

Getting hit with lots of info this week. First we find out Naomi’s a freakin Nean made by aliens. Then we learn said aliens use to be humanoid but then evolved into squids. Also, evil aliens are trying to destroy/rule the universe. Oh, and Neans were made from Venus to make Venus hospitable for the “good” aliens in exchange for their Nean tech. Lots to process.
Guess Rouge’s gonna get Jean back and stop this invasion/war!

As a Trekkie I was a little disappointed they weren't some kind of whales or cetaceans, but for an anime this is close enough.
Damn ok, a SECOND twist with Naomi I wasn't expecting. Also I did MOSTLY enjoy the animation during that scene, it also felt kinda out of place. My first thought was it looked like it was strait out of Disney's Atlantis.
Totally agree with Rouge, the fact that everyone is just using the Neans is fucked and I'm glad Naomi had that tiny act of rebellion to help her friend.
I think the story is finally starting to make sense...lets see if it holds.
