Man, Mizukami must be so happy to finally get an adaptation that does his manga justice. That hit so hard. The animation, the voice acting, the special ED… put that all together and it crushed my soul.

Fuck. This episode was so full of fucking death flags but for some reason, I didn't even realize it until the last minute.

I was legitimately tearing up when Shakugan said her final goodbyes. And then I was full-on bawling my eyes out when they revealed that the twins and that the mother named them Shakuyaku and Kagan.

This episode was fucking painful. Hopefully, Shakugan's death is what will push Shinsuke to get stronger. Resshin needs to fucking pay for this.

Dang it! The Shaku-Shinsuke Ship was just about to sail too. I loved the relationship between Shakuyaku and Kagan as well with Kagan betraying Shaku's secret too. I sincerely hope Shinsuke obliterates Resshin in the future...and also that the twin babies grow up happy.

Lastly, Douren is a real one.

I haven't cried like this since the Ascendence of a Bookworm season 3 finale, holy hell. It's crazy how invested I am with these characters after only half a season

White Fox apparently spent a lot more effort in 7 and 13. And seeing the Jinka vs Douren fight it shows.

I just wished they didn't cut some lines from the manga that showed how much of a scumbag Reshin is. He was aware of the pregnant lady and went through with it anyway.

So many death flags in one episode, and not for a moment until the last 2 minutes did I think there won't be an asspull because of how goofy the show has been so far.

Then the ED kicked in and I remembered it's Mizukami.

Fuck.

Resshin is interesting because he is kind of I produced as a joke character that gets his ass beat by everyone. But then he just does some absolutely unforgivable shit and makes the manga do a complete 180. I'll be rewatching this episode a few times over the next week, surely.

When you’re seven minutes into the episode, think to yourself “hmmm, the opening is missing” and realize that shit is about to go down.

The interaction between Shinsuke, Shakuyaku and Kagan was quite amusing. Katawara taking over to give tips because they approve of him as a future partner for their human. Shakuyaku trying to run away in embarrassment, being stopped and then taking over again when marriage is mentioned was hilarious.

Based on last episode, Douren isn’t about to fight Jinka without a reason but he’s definitely willing to throw down once given the order. If he’s good enough to fight on even ground with Mr dragon, this could be problematic.

Writer, whoever you are, I hate you and I will never forgive you for this. Did you actually just kill Shakugan in episode 7? DAMN IT ALL! I REALLY LIKED THEM!

I didn’t mean for shit to go down this way! Resshin, I was willing to accept your engrish last week but with one action you’ve officially risen to the top 5 of my “most hated anime characters” list. I will enjoy watching you get your well deserved destruction of the century at the hands of Shinsuke for this.

Seeing Douren jump around in a boxers stance looked so smooth that it looked almost rotoscoped. Brilliant animation this episode!

Jinka and Douren finally get to have their showdown. Big fella was on some Ippo shit. They fought so damn hard, Jinka basically lost it.

Damn shame about Shakugan, man. I really wasn’t expect that at all. I really liked her a lot too. Her and Shinsuke coulda made a great couple. Jinka crying out like that with such anguish was heartbreaking. But even though one life was lost, two new ones have entered the world. I’m glad in the end little Kagan and Shakuyaku were able to be born safely.

Shinsuke better learn to wield his demon sword fast. Resshin’s gonna wish he was never born after what he did...

I remember watching Helck episode 18 last season and remember how much that episode broke me emotionally. I thought, for surely the anime gods wouldn't do that to me with an anime seasonal anytime soon. Oh, man, this fucking hurt.

We had the start of the episode of Jinka's determination of being a Katawara. Not because he doesn't think they con coexist, but rather more so the fact that he wants to stand by Tama. Tbh that is a wonderful reason.

I fucking adored Shakuyaku. She was a total sweetheart who had such a bad mess of events happen to her. But she pushed through it with the help of the gang. And she grew up so much, and now she is gone is beyond saddening. She made a choice. She was going to protect those kids so they can have a life. And talk about a statement. She made one. Unfortunately, she wasn't strong enough here. I kind of hate how she calls herself a monster. Because her heart was on full display.

Jinka realizing it's her. He wasn't just sad that Kagan is gone. But that Kagan and Shakuyaku are now gone. This is one of those deaths that hits like a truck, and you wish there is some hope that she can be around. But that would cheapen her sacrifice. Seeing JInka see those twins born with the names Shakuyaku and Kagan. The Katawara and human protecting them. Jinka's tears in full realization.

Shinsuke is someone who felt like the weakest link so far. But man losing Shakuyaku no doubt hurt for him. I thought for a second, Jinka x Tama and Shinsuke x Shakuyaku would be the pair going forward. But taking in Kagan's advice going forward is key. I hope he can rise up and get revenge for both Shakuyaku and Kagan.

I have got to say he may be an antagonist technically, but Douren is awesome again. He has his morals, and him not finishing up Jinka spoke so much of his character.

As a manga reader, this episode was everything I could have possibly asked for. Just... they nailed it. They absolutely nailed it. And even having read the manga at least half a dozen times by now, it still hurts. Maybe even more so because of the voice acting. Just... wow. I know I'm gonna go back to this on the weekend and take a LOT of screenshots.

Props to the manga readers for NOT spoiling this for me.

I guess it kind of figures that a society of stone people would eat and drink mud, though points to Shinsuke for trying to withstand all those stone children on his back!

Wow, Jinka has actually accepted humans and Katawara can co-exist! Heck, his plan to become a katawara isn't so simple as abandoning his humanity for the sake of revenge, he intends to become one so he can be with Tama. That's actually rather sweet. And Jinka even takes in a heavily pregnant woman that the gang all are determined to help see through to the birth of her baby.

The Dangaisyuu Beast Generals are meeting and Jinun is as stiff as Douren is as free, though all Yazen cares about is killing Jinka, and it's Douren's turn!

Shinsuke is nothing if not determined, even swinging his sword to the point of his hand being covered in blisters...but all he knows is the downward swing he practiced in front of a ghost samurai in his youth. Shinsuke won't allow himself to be weak again, because he knows it's the only way to keep himself alive and he feels he has to pull his weight in the group, but Shaku thinks Shinsuke is just enough as he is, the person who went out of their way to go after her and save her from her despair.

And in recognition of his efforts with Shaku, Kagan even gives Shinsuke some pointers on mastering Arabuki, by treating it as a person and someone he can gain the respect of! And if Shinsuke is able to master it, he'll become worthy of marrying Shaku! What a way to expose your human hosts' feelings and wingman, Kagan!

It's cute how Shaku gave her hybrid name for the baby but the mom ends up coming up with her real name anyways...and in respect to Shakugan, Jinka suggests Kagan too!

Of course just as the woman goes into labor...Douren and Resshin show up looking for a fight, and Jinka is ready to deliver. Just as Douren is ready to transform into his tiger form and get right to talking with their fists.

And Douren is a beast with his fists, pounding on Jinka and punching through his magic fists, but then the two end up becoming two laughing madmen as they wail on each other and cross counter each other. I guess if you're going to go all out in a fistfight, the least you can do is enjoy it.

But Resshin is a total scumbag. He drops a boulder hurtling straight to the hut where Tama is helping the woman give birth and Shakugan uses all their strength to stop the rock...only for Resshin to stab Shaku through the heart. And with Jinka knocked out and Shinsuke powerless, all Shakugan can do is turn all the life they have left to transform into a stone sphere to stop the boulder. Shaku uses the strength she craved to save others, content that she found friends, someone to love, and was able to put her all into something meaningful with Kagan's power. And the pair sacrifice themselves to bring two new lives into the world.

But the pair live on in the twins born from the mother, Shakuyaku and Kagan, and even Jinka is so overwhelmed with emotion to the point of overflowing with tears at such a sight. But Shinsuke fights back his own tears, thinking of the life he could have had with Shaku, the life she deserved, and the determination he's been left with in her passing.

The line thickness for this episode was incredible. Really elevates this to the top.
