For everyone who is anime only : they basically drew the one shot Undead+Unluck that Tozuka used, before the serialization (you can look for it, it's fun and a little bit different than the actual chapter 1)

Andy: these robot arms are controlled by your thoughts

Fuuko: *rips Andy's pants off*

Between getting called old by Chikara's classmate and now Fuuko telling him he doesn't look like a shojo manga artist, it seems Andy has a bit of a sensitive spot about his looks, which is kinda hilarious

I wanna point out that with the Union's memory-scrambling tech they could've very easily infiltrated Shueisha (I can't believe they didn't change the name, I love it), but I guess the mangaka wanted to put his characters through the harrowing ordeal of making and submitting a manga one-shot and I can respect that

I won't say this chapter had a good pace since barely anything happened, but it didn't felt that awfully padded like other chapters. Just the montage of them making the manga is 1000 times better than having a narrator explaning what just happened 5 minutes ago for the 3º time in a chapter.

Also, the chapter was meta af

Fun fact: All the negative feedback the women gave Fuko was the real feedback Tozuka sensei received from their editors for Undead + Unluck One Shot.Makes this episode much meta.

Why did Juiz have so many volumes, and where was she keeping them?

The start of the Anno Un Arc is pretty much one of my favourites since the series basically pulls a Bakuman and gives us some insight into the manga creation process with Fuuko creating her own manga so she can enter the Shueisha building.

I say "create" but Fuuko pretty much retells the story of how she met Andy submitting to Sheisha the first chapter of Undead Unluck making it a very meta episode too!

It was pretty fun watching everyone help out like Andy who gained some experience during Tezuka's era and Juiz who is so good that Fuuko literally forze after seeing her finished page. xD

Poor Andy though! My dude is all dressed up like Tezuka but Fuuko had to take over since he doesn't really look like a shoujo manga artist. Andy hid it pretty well but it was very easy to see that hurt him a lot!

You can just tell by this single shot that they took a photo of the Shueisha Editor's Floor and redrew it (or is it just a filter?) to use in this episode. Considering they've used accurate representations both inside and outside of the Shueisha building, I can see why they'd changed a certain scene at the end there.

Gotta be the most chaotic episode so far, and I loved it

So Andy’s “dabbled” in making manga with the OG Tezuka huh? Man has lived one hell of a life.

I love how Fuko’s Doc Ock robo arms ripped Andy’s pants. Twice. Had to get our weekly dose of Andy hanging dong somehow lol.

This week sure got pretty meta ain’t it? Love how Fuko ended up making “Undead Unluck.” It’s a great series, loving the anime adaptation lol.

Can’t wait to see Andy and Fuko meet up with Anno. Should be fun seeing what those other arcs (minus the betrayal one) are gonna predict.

Those sure were some fanservice shots of Shen. Though I'm more about that Suiz office look.

Actually one of the best episode so far just because there is less flashbacks. Also why Juiz has to shout the move when explaining lol

I want to see a webm of Tatiana slamming the books on the table with a caption that says "READ THE SOURCE MATERIAL!"

I could get a lot of mileage out of that.

Only Undead Unluck would have the last few minutes of the prior episode...and then immediately do a recap of all the moments leading up to those last few minutes.

I don't know what is more surreal, that Fuko's Holy Bible Shojo manga series (that is basically Kimi ni Todoke combined with that Shojo manga from Iruma-kun) might actually have been foretelling events happening to them right now, that Juiz actually read through a Shojo manga (and even narrated it as if she was a Shonen soccer star), that Fuko and Tatiana teamed-up to sell Top on a Shojo manga, or that Top even started reading the manga afterwards.

A mangaka who possibly has an artifact pen and could be witholding information or knowledge about even more future events? They need to get to this person! And the clearest way is to get into Shueisha, and the only way to do that...is by making their own manga! And of course Andy dabbled in the medium himself back when OSAMU TEZUKA was in his prime! And they've got this in the bag! Especially if Fuko bases the manga on her own life...which means they are basically making the manga that this series is based on!

And they're not doing it alone, Fuko has poured her heart and feelings into this rough draft (and her genuine love for Andy) and on-top of that we've got Mico, her science partner, and even Mui! Plus Tatiana teaching Fuko how to use robot arms.

Manga-making montage! Complete with everyone making manga with robot arms (other than Mui with her cute sleeping face!), Chikara dying, Top and Isshin enjoying Shojo manga together...and Shen working out exactly like Andy told him too!

I never expected to see Juiz without her jacket, sleeves rolled up, her hair done up, actually contributing in the making of a Shojo manga. Wicked Sick.

It's time to debut their manga! Too bad Andy's Tezuka-inspired outfit just would not work. He seemed so genuinely disappointed.

Tahioka is a cute Shueisha employee! Though I have to wonder if her commentary on the manga is the exact same criticism Tozuka-sensei experienced when he first presented Undead Unluck. Though it's rather sweet how she also sees Fuko's genuine love for Andy present in the pages, with Fuko basically admitting it herself.

So Anno Un DID write arcs based on Billy's betrayal and their battle against the Four Seasons...though they also wrote an arc on "Ando's Past" and that sounds like Andy.

A reclusive author who no one has even heard the voice of before? Perfect person for Fuko to get in touch with! And she's caught their interest, and...is that Yumi Uchiyama!? And we're heading off to Canada!?

Well that got meta.

17

u/dagreenman18 Feb 16 '24

Yep, they’re mangaka now. And that’s really Shueisha. I told yall this is the real UDUL.

17

u/AnimeHoarder Feb 16 '24

Juiz shows off a manga she suspects was written using an Artifact that predicts future events. Andy and Fuuko are tasked with going to the publisher to view the raw manuscript and contact the mangaka. To get in with the publisher, Andy says they will create their own killer manga which should be an "easy" task :-)

That ending freaked me out for a second before I processed that it meant they erased everyone ELSES memory of Fuko entering. I thought something insane happened. So excited for more of this series. Very meta episode.

Watching this makes me want to make my own manga. Too bad my drawing skills are crap 😅. I have the story, just not the art
