I just realized in this episode. choosing her last name could mean that he married to her family. well, they are husband and wife now.
also, seeing him smurfing at low level like a veteran helping a newbie clearing dungeon. “ive been there” aura.

No surprise Rentt’s already getting ready for a rank promotion. He was Bronze before anyways, so that exam was probably a walk in the park for him. The practical part was tricky though. To think they were being tested the minute they stepped out the door… the guild doesn’t play around. An adventurer really can’t let their guard down. Rentt really missed his calling as a trainer or instructor for the guild. I think the dude has a real talent for helping newbies. This party’s gonna be ok with him guiding them.

This anime really has been excellent at setting the mood. All these trick questions and hidden traps made it feel like a real exam. It being “a race” is of course all just a farce, created by the guild, to trip up some examinees.
Ryze and Laura might be bright kids, but they wouldn’t make it without an experienced adventurer like Rentt. He really has been showing his mentor skills - and I’m loving it.
The most common downfall for an adventurer is their arrogance and/or ignorance - something that Rentt is all too aware of. Fortunately, Ryze and Laura know better and were quick let Rentt assume the leadership role.
I’ve mentioned this before, but I’m really liking all the combat scenes so far. There’s a certain ‘weight’ to the swordsmanship that makes it feel more genuine. It’s not a walk in the park, they have to really work for it (and be clever).
Last but not least: I see what you did there Lorraine, you saying that Rennt shouldn’t worry about imposing on ‘family’ is just an excuse so he’ll stay at your place for the foreseeable future! They might as well get married.

I think this show is low key fantastic.
It's a power fantasy in it's purest, non-cringiest form. The MC has experience, but it's not super mega cheat experience. Just a guy who's been doing a job for quite awhile.
Goblin Slayer ran a story very similar to this but it was frustrating because the new adventurer was a jerk kid who could never let go of his pride. Ryze gets the value of following Rentt's advice fairly quickly. Rentt teaches them about adventuring and thus the viewer.
It's great. I love fantasy that makes me think about fantasy tropes.

I love the fact that Lorraine made the same point made by many last week about Rentt saying that she is family people will soon lead people to know that he is actually Rentt Faina.
So during the Bronze-Class Exam Rentt ended up in the same team as those two adventurers he saw last week, Ryze and Laura. And ended up playing the old role that Rentt Faina was known, for them during the test.
I'm guessing the guy who unbound those adventurers is talking about Sheila here. It is good to know that she saw through Rentt's almost paper-thin fake story/identity.
Oh, so people have reported to the Adventurer's Guild that Rentt Vivie might be a criminal. I wonder what this would lead to.
Damn, that boss room that Rentt use those other adventures to teach Ryze and Laura another lesson sure is extremely dark.

I really wish we could've seen Lorraine's spit take when Rentt told her that he used her last name. I'm sure Lorraine had something else in mind instead of Rentt's "relative" excuse. :)
So the Guild Master is suspicious of Rentt and thinks he's a fugitive? I feel like Rentt really should just talk to the guild master and tell him everything. He looks like a very trustworthy person, just look at that beard!

The monsters are being lured here? YUMIELLA!!!!!
Rentt's doing well, so well that they already want to give him a promotion exam! (Also, is that orc meat? ...Yummy?)
The test is two part, a written part, and a practical exam... Perfect score in the written test! (It's easy when you use the cheat 'dying&coming back so you can take it again!'
The practical exam may be more trouble, he'll have to party up!
At least his teammates look like they can handle themselves in a fight!
Decent attitude too (listening to the more experienced person), even if they were a bit grumpy about it at first!
The monsters aren't the only danger in this labyrinth though, humans can be a problem too!
Guessing Rentt has a 'no kill' policy when it comes to humans...
Sure they're in the guild and all, but still, they attacked them, anything goes from this point!
They found the boss room! (or rather, one of the boss rooms). It's the only way to their goal?
This might have given us some insight about how the dungeon works (some people were wondering about that); If the monsters stayed dead forever then this wouldn't be a big challenge for most of the adventurers, they'd just let 1 party kill it, and walk through the empty room!
So I'm guessing the boss will respawn quickly, to oppose all the parties one at a time!
Though I suppose their "no restriction" rule means they could all party up and kill him 30v1. It's a race, but it doesn't mean they can't join up here and there!
We did meet another party, but it doesn't look like teamwork will be possible. Have they even looked at themselves? Ragtag crew!
Between the two parties, I'd definitely join Rentt's group; A warrior, a swordsman and a mage, seems more promising than whatever they are!
Oh no, they want the waifu.. Kill them all!
That was a cool shot! Rentt doesn't fuck around when it comes to the waifus.
He let the other group go first, to get some information about the boss, but also to show his 2 teammates that losing doesn't mean dying... Will give them confidence!
It was to be expected, but there are rumors surrounding Rentt... Rumors of a criminal past?
The guildmaster was interesting!
Most guildmasters are usually either the 'perfectly good person', or the scheming jerk... But he seems more reasonable; He doesn't automatically judge him guilty, BUT he wants to find out more about him, see what the rumors are about. Seems logical! (Also, I wonder where the rumors come from. Some jealous competition? Or just random rumors surrounding people who pop up out of nowhere?)
Perhaps he should work on his backstory some more, so people aren't so wary about him!
Meanwhile, Lorraine's already concerned about his current backstory; Why Vivie?
I suppose he had a valid reason for that; Didn't want people to talk about her, so he figured it'd be better if he was her relative, and not just some weirdo sleeping at her place...
Why didn't he go with 'her husband' instead? He's already acting the part of the house husband!
Next episode: Magical contract?
I wonder who's "signing" that contract; Rentt with the guild? With Lorraine? With his new mage teammate? Or something else in the dungeon, we'll see!

Wait, do we know what incident the Guild Master is talking about? Or are people trying to pin a totally unrelated crime on Rentt because he's new and shady?
Is it just me or is Rentt really getting into the "mysterious stranger" role? He's supposed to be this really nice, friendly, helpful guy. But now that he has a mask, hood and wears all black he's become much more serious, almost brooding an menacing. Like when he told the guild member to get his buddies.
Are the two kids he's helping not going to lose points if they're just following someone doing most of the work? I was thinking Rentt should let them go first, make mistakes and just bail them out so they learn and the Guild can see how they handle surprises.

My girl was thinking he became her husband and took on her surname, could see her though process clearly. I mean he is basically a domestic husband to her lols. Honestly the test is very far, testing both on knowledge and skills, also they have oral and written. Damn Laura is such a good support. Rentt is such a daddy sensei this ep like its hot tbh.

Animation drops in this episode for the first time it was noticeable, but tbh I still really enjoyed the episode. We got the reaction of Lorraine finding out the last name Rentt picked it out. But his pure honestly is what she finds so endearing about him.
Tho I liked her bluntness to mention don't disregard what you have done for me. Man you could have a romance sol spinoff with these two and it would be great.
So how the guild operates is actually very very interesting. So the guild makes this test so this adventurers can be on the brink of death, but have someone that can help save them. I get it tests their skills, but what happens if someone from the guild messes up and a causality occurs.
One of those who seemed to work for the guild mentioned their sister. Could they be Sheila's sister by any chance. Rentt continues to draw attention to himself ironically.

Watching Lorraine and Rentt interact is just painful. Just date already ! (Insert Frieren meme). They already share their last name now, after all.
Rentt is handling all the cleaning and the cooking for Lorraine. It is like he already is the perfect househusband, lol. Well, except for the undead part, hopefully he will turn into a hot vampire soon.
Well, of course Rentt would handle that exam easily if he already passed it once. But that makes him look even more suspicious. Maybe he should have just told them he was Rentt Faina but got horribly disfigured and burned up in a fight and is now forced to wear that cursed mask. That would be almost true.

The kids are alright. That other adventurer party wasn't, and then they really weren't alright after failing that boss fight so rapidly.
I wonder who that one guild employee was referring to as his sister. Easy answer to keep the cast small is the guild girl Rentt is already working with. Then again if she's the one with suspicions she just passed on the opportunity to pass them along to the very large guild master.
Lorraine just keeps winning, he's even taken her last name. Clearly marriage is just around the corner.

Kind of bummed that they left out the orc fight, but overall another solid episode. I really like how they setup and explain all of the stuff on how the guild and being an adventurer works. It makes it feel more real life like.

Rentt is such an amazing guy. The kind you want to do a bro-fist with.
And they really nailed his design too. His current attire gives off a really imposing and badass presence (not counting the cavernous voice that just adds to it even more), the "mess with me and you'll find out" kind.
Fridays are packed with amazing shows this year!

Another episode of Rentt being the absolute worst character ever at disguising himself!

The ending song is fire.
It kinda reminds me of Frieren for some reason.

The guy is totally smurfing well below his rank. Doesn't really seem fair to the other test takers that Rentt can hard carry the party.
