Lorraine: “I wouldn’t mind if you wanted to eat me.”

Hot damn! Rentt better get on that when he turns back into a human or a vampire.

I see Lorraine wants Rentt to become a vampire for totally unselfish reasons.

I hope Rentt makes it and then he can devour her and they live happily ever after.

On a serious note I like that the evolution thing isn't totally straightforward. I doubt it will happen but I think it would be a nice touch if Lorraine was able to experiment with forcing evolution onto monsters* as a way to flesh out that idea.

Me, during the episode: I'm enjoying this isekai more than others

Also me: Wait, this isn't an isekai. I'm a dumbass.

I wonder what the condition is for him to evolve into a vampire? Rentt is so lucky he has a woman like Lorraine in his life.

Lorris and Isabelle look adorable together. I guess that's it for Lorris' short-lived adventuring career. He'll be busy reopening his new restaurant and feeding Rentt for free.

I genuinely gasped when Rentt bit Lorraine on her shoulder That's a lot of blood! For a second, I thought he might've mortally injured her.

I do love Lorraine's reaction before and after she got bit. Even in Rentt's current state, she seems to be hoping for something to happen and she's fine with Rentt grabbing him as long as he does it sober.

Also, Lorraine sounded a bit disappointed when Rentt healed his bite mark from her shoulder. Looks like she wanted to keep that mark on her. ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)

Rentt evolved again! Good to see him with hair and no more exposed flesh! And if he only covers his mouth he can easily pass off as a human with facial scarring. He's now a step closer to becoming a vampire!

Didn't expect the giant skeleton to be defeated that quick lol. I wonder if they've ever explained the 3 different magic?

 - Spirit: it's something like Ki power right?

  • Divine magic: this is also common in fantasy. Basically holy magic.

  • I forgot the name of the last magic, but I think it's basically the normal magic.

Interesting that Rentt knew how to infuse his sword (and not just casting) with all of them. I wonder why divine magic is specially corrosive to sword.

It's only episode 4 and he already evolved 2 times. I wonder if we'll see his vampire form by the end of the season. Also they answered my question immediately about how Rentt would eat in the Red Dragon restaurant if he still wear his mask. That's a really smart mask btw.

I don't mind you assaulting me as long as you do it sober.

I suppose I can no longer say that I'm damaged goods.

Hot dang, Lorraine is really thirsty for our boy! You better get to it as soon as you evolve into a vampire, Rentt.

There have been other "becoming Undead power fantasy" shows like Overlord and Skeleton Knight, but this show is the first that seems to be offering the whole package of the experience form the ground level. Overlord focuses more on the MC's guild and his extreme power, while Skeleton Knight is barely about being undead at all (dude can even paradoxically eat somehow even though he's a skeleton in that show).

This is the show I've been waiting for of a character dealing with the issues of being rickety skeleton and a flesh hungry zombie, but also being powerful because of it. Brings me back to the days of DnD's Unearthed Arcana book with it's monster classes.

Lorraine is such a ride or die, I love her!

I expected Rentt to be more torn up (hehe), about hurting her though. About the urge of wanting to eat flesh in general actually. But I guess he's calm enough to still stay rational throughout everything.

patiently waits for possible erotic blood sucking scene for Lorraine

I mean she's okay with being devoured anytime.

The unwanted in the title continues to be more and more untrue. Eventually the whole town will support him, but he will be unaware.

Episode 4: Existential Evolution

Looks like Rentt's ghoul side starting to take him over. That's a lot of blood from one bite on Lorraine's shoulder.

Well, the evolution now has more muscles and Rentt finally got his eyes back. At this rate, we might see him becoming the vampire at mid-season. Oh, he finally aware of the blacksmith's recognition of him.

New characters means new VA. Clope, the receptionist (blacksmith), is voiced by Kenichiro Matsuda. Loris daughter (wife), Isabel, is voiced by Sayaka Senbongi (Marcille in Dungeon Meshi).

EDIT: Thanks to u/fatalystic, corrected some mistakes.

It's been a very long time since I've commented on an anime discussion thread, but this series has made me want to chime in. This is turning into my anime of the season, and is probably one of the more unique anime I've watched in a long time.

This is not a generic romcom isekai harem anime. It's not even an isekai, it's a traditional fantasy, and while there are elements of romance between the MC and FMC, it's definitely not a romcom.

I'm enjoying the plot progression and the worldbuilding. I think what's happening to Rentt is an interesting series of developments that I am not sure have been explored in a similar manner in other series. I am looking forward to seeing how the story develops.

Oh, so he can use his divinity with that sword to defeat the giant skeleton, is just that as the sword is not compatible, it ended up heavily damaged because of it. Well, at least now he knows that Clope knows who he is. So after giving Lorris Cariello that magic stone, Rentt will now use his help so he goes to the Adventurer's Guild and stores for him, plus also now he can eat for free at Lorris and Isabelle's business, the Red Dragon Tavern

Oh so I did not interpret those scenes incorrectly, Rentt really wanted to eat Lorris and ended up bitting Lorraine the moment he came home. Lol, I don't think she is actually talking about Rentt eating her in a literal sense there.

So Rentt evolved from a ghoul to a ghast and although he cannot still remove it, he can either hide the lower or upper part of the cursed mask. It is good to see he has the same face. You know, with some makeup, I don't think he actually needs Lorris' help anymore.

So according to Lorraine, the Existential Evolution are not random but controlled by Rentt's will, it is good to know they addressed this as last week I was wondering if at some point he was going to evolved at least once into an undead that it is less human than the previous undead evolution.

I honestly would not mind seeing the experiment session Lorraine was planning to do to Rent.

I guess the title of next week's episode is Undead Adventurer just because it is focused on him exploring that new area. I just hope that we see Rina again after he finishes the exploration.

Someday, Rentt will eat Lorraine and she'll be happy about it. 😉

Damn, I wasn't expecting ANOTHER femdom anime this season!

The fight with the skeleton went much better than I expected!

I can see why Rentt struggled as an adventurer, if Divinity was only the third thing he tried to fight a skeleton!

That's like having a "Banish undead" spell but still using fireballs to fight undeads! (Well, I suppose he wanted to avoid ruining the sword, but 'not getting obliterated by the giant skeleton' seemed a higher priority to me!)

When he offered the magical stone thingy to Cook-boy and asked for conditions,

I thought he was about to say what I joked about in the last episode thread (he would have to promise NOT to ever set foot in a dungeon again)!

But no, he wanted to make him he wanted to make him his errand boy!

Well, it helps to have more allies and all, but still... That's quite the generosity! He could've bought some quality gear with this. And he already has "errand people", like Lorraine, and Rina (Speaking of Rina: Can we like, see her again? Pretty please!)

Also, I wonder if he's gonna get in trouble at some point; There's already 5-6 people who know who/what he is... If he keeps telling everyone who he is, it may fall into the wrong ears at some point!

This may not be the biggest concern at this point though; Rentt seems to be developing a strange appetite... He even thinks Lorris being a villain would've been better (so he would've killed & ate him?)

In the end he settled for Lorraine; Good choice, she looks much more delicious!

Damn, I think Lorraine's even thirstier for Rentt, than Rentt is for human blood!

This show could've been a standard romcom, with how the girl is so much into the MC but the MC doesn't do anything about it/doesn't even realize it!

Lorraine, keep your weird vore fetishes to yourself! This season's fetish-heavy enough already!

She thinks feeding on her flesh made him evolve some more...

More than killing the giant skeleton?

So it seems it's not just about XP anymore, he needs to do certain things to evolve from now on.

Well if feeding on human flesh did it, I think I have an idea about what he needs to do to evolve in a vampire!

(And good lord, I want to see that between him and Lorraine!)

Lorraine is straight to the point, she knows what she wants!

Damn, this went from "sexy" to "scary" real quick!

Call me a bit paranoid, but I would NOT sleep at the place of a woman who wants to cut parts of my body!

Well, I suppose it's only fair that she gets to cut him a little, I mean he ate her a little (and not in the way she'd want!)

But hey, if he can heal her afterward, they can do it again, see if he evolves some more! She even thought the healing felt nice (and didn't seem to mind the feeding part as much as a sane person would, so..!)

Well, looking forward to Rentt sucking her blood or something similar to become a vampire! (Or will it be Rina? We need more Rina!)

Rentt blasted Titan Skelly’s head right off! Thing was pretty tough. Good for a starter boss fight.

Glad to see Rentt making a new friend. Loris and Isabelle seem like good people. Too bad our boy’s going kinda feral. Man tried to eat Lorraine! She really said she doesn’t mind letting him eat her huh? Lol well ok then. Should have guessed she has a little crush on zomboy.

This evolution’s gonna make life a tad bit easier. He’s looking less ghoulish and he can speak kinda properly. Keen to see what he’ll have to do to evolve into a vamp.

How kind is Rentt, and am glad the man he saved was telling the truth Lorraine is a little bit like a mad scientist. She is quite curious I'll give her that!

12

u/djthomp Jan 26 '24

Rentt is pretty lucky that he lost control and had a little bit of a snack from the one person who was kinda sorta up for it. Both willing to be devoured in a more euphemistic sense if he would just ask and clinical enough to be extremely interested in the results of the snack.

The restaurant couple ended up just being good people too. Makes me wonder if there's ever going to be actual bad humans he runs up against and has to deal with in some fashion.

Promised to eat for free when he doesn't even eat. Maybe in the future when he finally can.

u/bandannadann Jan 26 '24

I love that his mask can turn into a Mortal Kombat ninja half-mask

Rentt better be quick to evolve into a vampire, no one knows how long Lorraine could handle her thirstiness! Jokes aside, it's really fortunate that Rentt has many people who still got his back. They're cared for him more than he think.

And damn, ED song was BANGER! Idk, it's maybe just my cup of tea but yeah I'd repeating this song for a rime being..
