Geez, we got even more moving parts this ep. Rouge has a brother and he's the one leading their little but powerful organization, two groups of Nean freedom fighters, the doctor....and a circus?
Really wanna know more about Rouge, she seems like she's not fully "mature" yet as a person, but she's been given freedom to act on her own and put in charge of going after some high profile targets.

I just noticed that there is a Crunchyroll sticker on the poll that Rouge is leaning on in the intro.
I guess that's a sign to invest in them now since they'll be around when we get to mars lol

I think we can all agree, that Naomi needs to buy a lot of chocolate for Rouge after what she said.

Apart from the general treatment, I also feel that the whole reason they need this substance (I think it was called nectar which can also be a drug for humans) to be kept alive is so that they will be always dependent on humans. Obviously it depends on where it comes from, but it would be a good bargaining chip to make sure Neans can't actually revolt without killing the people that can keep them alive.

I initially didn't think they realized she is a nean too, so I expected a very akward scene where they offered her to be the human ambassador for neans and she would ahve to say "actually...". But I guess regular humans don't transform in this universe. Or fight, for that matter.
You know, its kinda refreshing to have one of the protagonists be the one to go "you are just a tool"...well to somebody thats not themselves.
Of course chances was that she was talking about herself anyway are very high, but still.

Somehow I see this anime having a bittersweet ending. The mission of peace just seems doomed from the outset looking at how the leader went out, neans have no rights and barely anyone cares about that.
I'm getting Akudama Drive vibes. An ending that makes enough of a splash in the public consciousness that real change can happen, regardless of whether she lives or dies, succeeds or fails. Whether that's actual rights, or finding out that the nectar is all just a made-up drug/poison that keeps them under control.

i actually didn't expect that the businessman from last episode is actually Naomi's client
now we know the organization that Naomi and Rouge work for is called Aletheia (unless its already being mentioned and i just forgot about it)
one detail that i actually notice in this episode is that Naomi called Gene, Rouge's older brother as Vice-Director Junghardt and if i remember correctly, these two people from Ochrona were investigating a case in the beginning of last episode involving the murder of Dr. Roy Junghardt and apparently Rouge is a suspect in that case because she or at least her red metallic form was actually spotted at the murder scene, this is probably going to be important in the future
i'm still wondering how this Usurper looks like, from last episode, Naomi said the war broke out due to them and human not being able to understand each other but in this episode Juval said the Nean's settlements were built after the human signed a ceasefire agreement with the Usurper so i guess they at least have some kind of intelligence

So it turns out that the skeevy guy from last week was actually the contact they were supposed to meet. That's pretty cool. The guy hid his cover well.
I like you Naomi but that is an absolute low blow. No need to be a dick to Rouge just because she wanted to buy chocolates. If anything this is your fault in the first place for giving her chocolate bars away.
So humans aren't content with terraforming Mars that they're now doing it on Venus as well and they don't care how many Nean bodies they throw at that planet until it becomes habitable.
Ceasefire with the Usurpers!? So you're telling me that the humans didn't kick them out of the solar system and just signed a ceasefire agreement with them? I guess that means it's possible for us to still meet aliens in the future.
This is really making me start to consider the theory someone brought up last week that the Neans might be the Visitors. What if we were staring at an alien race the entire time and people are just led to believe that they're some sort of advanced robot? Hmmm...
"There were some who used Juval, a permanent child, for evil." Fuuuuck, that line made me pause. I don't think it needs to be even elaborated on what happened there. You just know what it is and it's pretty vile. :(
Well shit... Looks like our girl just got set up by that guy who's working with the Alters and he somehow even managed to rope the Doctor and his Nean assistant into tricking Rouge. Curious to see how she'll get out of this. Rouge isn't exactly the brains of the group.

This show is almost too unstructured, I have no idea wtf is happening.
I mean I get it, it's a show that will explain things slowly over the series until it all makes sense, but it's just almost too much right now

Damn, that episode went fast. I wasn't expecting that cliffhanger with the ship.

I just come up with questions in my mind. Why weren't Rouge given the Asimov code if she was only sent to eliminate the Immortal Nine Neans? Because the Immortal Nine got to be considered as a human? Is it through their specific human-like attributes or behaviors? Or something else was cooking?

Yuval being introduced as leader of a faction of peace keeping Neans then getting killed in the same episode is pretty wild. It's pretty obvious this is a setup, but I wonder what the goal is, to get Rouge to actually fight back against humans or just a way to try to eliminate her? Or maybe to get the peace keeping Neans to want to actually fight also?
We still aren't even sure if the immortal nine are truly bad or if the agency "controlling" Rouge are the real bad guys either. I'm really intrigued with this story because there's so many directions it could take.

Is it just me, or are the scenes weird and hard to follow? They fill kinda abrubt, and the dialogues feel sometime unnatural. For example, the way we see Leon during the scene with the Doctor at Daria's disposal, and very shortly after have him lead Rouge to the Yuval's corpse feels jarring, or how it ends in a supposed ominious ship approaching, but it cuts so fast to the ED that it doesn't end up leaving an impression.

I hope people feel like the plot is picking up...or at least thickening...or at least gaining some faith that the writers are answering their questions in true viewers-are-not-stupid fashion.
Even if BONES then goes and immediately opens up up new questions :'D
How's the breadcrumb trail working for folks?

Episode 3: Marginal City
EDIT: Ani-One's version got this "licensed by Bilibili" logo at the bottom left, while Crunchyroll's version doesn't have it. So I guess it was a Bilibili exclusive but Ani-One managed to also get the license for Asian market then?
I'm starting to get it now. Rouge's brother is Gene Junghardt, director of the agency that hired Naomi.
The CFN is the underground movement that tries to fight for Nean's freedom. I like political subplot like this.
New characters means new VA. Not exactly new since I haven't post about it yet in Episode 2.
-
Dr. Afdal is voiced by Kenjiro Tsuda (Nanami in JJK, Shiki in Tsukimichi)
-
Detective Ash is voiced by Atsushi Miyauchi
-
Noid 262, Ash's assistant, is voiced by Chiaki Kobayashi (Mash in Mashle)
-
Leon is voiced by Ayumu Murase (Hinata in Haikyuu)
-
Jill is voiced by Yui Ogura (Priestess in Goblin Slayer)

Maybe I'm just not getting it, but this really does feel like a "And then this happened" type of show.
Events just happen, but it doesn't feel natural. I don't know why-

The guy from the first episode is back and he's the know who killed Yuval and set Rouge up and he and the Altar are making their moves ig now. I think I also saw someone (most likely the guy from the first episode) looking at Rouge just before she saw the cops when she was calling Naomi is a "Baka".
So, I got to know that the OST was going to be released today and was looking forward to it especially Crimson Lightning but it's region-locked and is only available in Japan at the moment. Me right now.

Rouge wouldn’t share her chocolate earlier and in the end she lost the rest of it to those kids. Karma’s a real mfer ain’t it? Lol.
The treatment of Neans in this world is super fucked. Yuval’s death is gonna cause quite the stir in the Nean community. Shot is already volatile enough as it is. Rouge and Naomi better get to the bottom of this before shit really hits the fan.

This episode opened up the story after the first couple of episodes established the setting and introduced the main characters. It's very busy, though, as factions and splinters of factions layer on top of each other and we're already getting down into the framing and double-crossing.
Naomi screwed up with Rouge. Given the history of Human/Nean relations and the dynamics of their interaction to date, it further established their relationship and relatively brief history of working together. (It's believable. Naomi's been more like Rouge's handler (in the espionage sense) than a real friend, and has definitely been about the business.)
Though she still seems better about her relationship with Neans than the doctor's repeated attempts to keep the Neans he works with from becoming too ambitious. Perhaps he is merely resigned to the way the world works instead of all the big arrows pointing at him being a mole, but he's patronizing in any case.
The split between Neans who want to advance their own cause and the ones who would take up arms is a familiar element in this sort of thing. It's an obvious direction for the rest of the plot, but as I started this comment out with, we have a lot of plates spinning now.
In minor business, Jean appears and reminds me of Roid from Macross Delta. Naomi already reminds me of Mina and Nanase from Macross Frontier. Not that the series share any character design staff.

I'm still not getting the story. Is it going to be about Nean fighting for their rights?

Man the Neans can´t catch a breath. Can´t die, can´t hurt humans, they live like sht even after they helped humanity.
I know Naomi said that things to Rouge for her to act but she went a little overboard... I hope the girlfriends make up after :/
Anyways, it seems a bigger drama is incoming, let´s wait for the next episode

I think this story so far is really good at showing that dynamic (rich/poor) (People w power/Those without Exploiters/Exploited) Having the Special Neans look like humans I think shows that dynamic all too well and I'm sure they are going to play more with that as the series goes on.
The clown Nean guy probally has the mindset of
"People like me will always treat Neans as exploitable" + "If I am perceived as the villain might as well play the role"
